Chapter 168: Stupid Alpha

The pressure around He Juan became dangerously low and a depressed aura shrouded him. It was not like he did not want to sleep. He wanted to. Very much. Who would not be exhausted after surviving a nearly fatal car crash and losing control of their own pheromones to boot? Not to mention, this was already way past his bedtime...

He Juan was tired, so tired to the point where he could fall asleep as soon as he closed his eyes.

But he really couldn’t do it. He did not want to.

Because his dreams were too terrifying, it was like the manifestation of his deepest fears combined into one. In them, he could see himself losing control, again. And every single time, Mu Yuze would be there, bravely throwing himself forward in an attempt to bring him back to his senses. At first, He Juan could still stop himself from hurting the little omega. But the longer this went on, the more uncontrollable he became and his latest dreams all featured the exact same thing.

He was standing in the middle of the void with Mu Yuze’s body lying on his feet, lifeless.

It was him, it was him who had killed Mu Yuze with his own hands...

Every single time, Mu Yuze’s lifeless eyes would stare up at him, still with traces of shock, disbelief and resentment as though even until his last breath, he was still chasing after an answer, "Why? Why did you kill me?"

Each time, He Juan would be jolted awake with his entire body drenched in cold sweat. He would tremble in utter dread and terror and it was not until the doctors assured him again and again that no, he had not killed Mu Yuze, and yes, the little omega was still alive and breathing that he managed to calm himself down with much difficulty. As a result, here he was, unable to sleep no matter how drained he was...

"Juan-gege?" Mu Yuze keenly sensed that something was amiss and tried to peer into He Juan’s eyes, only to be avoided because He Juan did not want the omega to see him looking so pathetic and miserable. Genuine concern brimmed in Mu Yuze’s beautiful eyes as he asked softly, "Gege, what’s wrong?"

So good... how could this little omega be so good? How could he forgive He Juan and... act as if nothing happened? How could he forgive He Juan just like that?

"I’m... okay," he squeezed out the words through the heavy lump on his throat. He Juan swiftly masked his complex emotions and faced the omega with a smile. "You must be tired, aren’t you? Let’s rest." Then, He Juan made a show of lying down and closing his eyes. Either way, Mu Yuze would not be able to discover anything as long as he stayed still...

He Juan lay motionless for a few seconds, yet he did not hear any signs of movement from the other side. Strange... why didn’t Mu Yuze move? Had he seen through He Juan’s lies?

Just as he was going to open his eyes and check, his ears picked up the soft rustle of blanket and clothing, followed by a sudden dip on his bedside two seconds later.

He Juan snapped his eyes open, shocked, only to find Mu Yuze who already had one knee on his bed. He Juan’s heart skipped a beat before accelerating faster and faster, and he was so caught off guard that he stumbled over his words. "X–Xiao Ze, what are you doing?"

Only when the sentence fell off his lips did he realize what he was saying. Oh, so the little omega’s nickname was ’Xiao Ze’... It sounded good and it rolled off his tongue so naturally. He must have said it either out loud or inside his mind countless times before. And looking at Mu Yuze who acted like nothing was wrong, He Juan guessed that it must be the former.

"Ssh..." Mu Yuze hushed him softly and glanced at the loud beeping monitor "If you keep this up, the one surnamed Jia will come here again."

He Juan showed a helpless look. Which Alpha would not be nervous when their omega suddenly climbed onto their bed? And moreover, it was not like he could control the rhythm of his own heartbeat either...

Alas, just the notion that Jia Molei would barge in at any time soon worked like a magic potion to douse He Juan’s momentary fluster and he soon found himself calming down. "You..." he had no idea why he was whispering even though there were only the two of them in the room. "You want to sleep here... with me? But your wounds—"

"As long as I don’t make any sudden movements, it will not hurt." As he spoke, he already lifted He Juan’s blanket and drilled himself to He Juan’s side.

In reflex, He Juan scooted to the side to make some space for him. All of a sudden, the wide hospital bed became a little cramped with two big boys squeezing together...

Both of them were lying on their side with their heads on the pillow. As their gazes collided in midair, He Juan found himself holding his breath sharply. Has anyone told this little omega how beautiful his eyes were? They were dark at a glance, yet on a closer look, He Juan could find a streak of blue that made his pupils look fascinatingly mysterious. When paired with lush and thick lashes, those eyes looked so captivating that He Juan could not control his heartbeat again...

"You can’t sleep, can you Gege?" Mu Yuze asked in a whisper as though telling a secret.

"Hmm?" It took He Juan one full second to extricate himself from the magic that was Mu Yuze’s eyes. Then, as the omega’s question sank in his mind, the light in his eyes instantly dimmed. There was no way he could hide anything from Mu Yuze at such a close distance. Every minute changes of his expressions, each emotion that flashed through his eyes, were vividly captured by Mu Yuze. He Juan had no other choice than to admit with a forced smile, "En, you’re right..."

He let out a laugh and tried to liven up the atmosphere. Yet it sounded weird and foreign even to his own ears. "Every time I close my eyes, I see you..." He Juan was unable to say the word ’dead’. Just thinking about it was enough to fill him with so much fear and terror. As such, he could only switch his words. "I always hurt you, again and again, and... I can’t seem to... control myself..." his voice started to crack and his oxygen mask grew foggy from how harsh his breathing was.

Mu Yuze had an expression of ’I knew it’. Without saying anything, he inched closer and closer until he leaned his head on the crook of He Juan’s neck, snuggling close to him like a small animal seeking warmth.

All the while, He Juan did not dare to breathe, let alone move. Mu Yuze’s breath swept over his sensitive skin like the barest of touch and He Juan fought not to shrink back. His entire body was so stiff that it resembled a wooden block.

Oh God... what kind of soft and sweet torture is this?!

"Stupid Alpha..." he heard Mu Yuze whisper in a low voice. His body slowly relaxed and melted into He Juan’s arms. He nuzzled his nose along the side of He Juan’s neck and inhaled his scent deeply, content. A purr slowly formed on his throat. "You stupid, stupid Alpha..."
