Captured By The Cold Detective (BL)-Chapter 167: Three Magical Words
Under He Juan’s mesmerized stare, Mu Yuze’s face turned even redder, his lips parted without a word.
Back then, the situation had been too chaotic and Mu Yuze’s attention was entirely focused on how to stabilize He Juan’s berserk state. He could not even think straight anymore. He had blurted out those three sacred words in the heat of the moment when his consciousness was fading away. Under the sharp and unrelenting torment, he really thought he was going to die soon and could not help but confess the love he had been hiding for years...
Who knew that... who knew that in a few hours, they would lie side by side like this?! He never even expected that Juan-gege would remember it!
It would be better if He Juan had retained his memory because Mu Yuze was certain that the Alpha would not bring it up for fear of embarrassing him. That was just how thoughtful and considerate he was. Unfortunately now... it was not the case!
Now, he was acting just like any ordinary Alpha who had just gotten a confession from his omega and feared that he had heard wrong. His hopeful, nervous yet slightly apprehensive look was going to make Mu Yuze shrivel up and wither away from sheer embarrassment. How was he supposed to brush it off when He Juan was staring at him with such an adorable look on his face?!
"I..." Mu Yuze lowered his eyelids and fiddled with the pure white blanket with his fingers, his gaze darting everywhere but He Juan. His voice was smaller than a mosquito buzz as he admitted, "I did..."
"Oh..." the soft exclamation sounded like it was punched out of He Juan’s chest, utterly breathless. Just as Mu Yuze was going to shift the topic, he heard He Juan murmur under his breath, "Me too... I like you. I love you so, so much..."
Mu Yuze’s eyes snapped to him in shock. When he saw the serious yet bashful look on He Juan’s face, it was as if someone had gutted him with a knife and a layer of moisture gathered on the corner of his eyes.
For these past few weeks, they had been in a courting period and He Juan had always tried to fulfill his wishes and take care of him as much as possible. He knew that this was the Alpha’s way to show his affection. He Juan was already more than thirty years old; he had long gone past the age of being showy and emotional. For him, ’love’ was no longer a word that ought to be uttered out loud, but be proven through action instead. Mu Yuze could see it clearly... from his tender gaze, his affectionate smile, his gentle touches and worshipful caresses... he could sense how much He Juan treasured and cherished him.
He also thought that it was already enough. As long as he could monopolize He Juan to himself, he did not need to hear those romantic and cheesy lines couples often mentioned to each other.
But oh boy, how wrong he was...
It was not until He Juan said those words that Mu Yuze realized how much he wanted it. How much he wanted to hear He Juan’s feelings be put into words. It was simply magical how those three words fell into his ears like Heaven’s most enchanting symphony. He could feel the dark and empty part of him – the part that was mangled with bloody wounds and rotten flesh – start to heal and warm up at a miraculous speed.
Gods, his greed really knew no bounds, did it? To think that once, he was already immensely satisfied with this person’s gaze on him...
Seeing that Mu Yuze’s eyes suddenly turned red as if he was going to burst into tears, He Juan’s heartbeat spiked in utter panic and was swiftly followed by the loud beeping of the monitor. Alas, all of his attention was solely focused on the teary-eyed omega in front of him. He sat up and his hands hovered over Mu Yuze, wanting to touch but did not dare to.
"W–What happened? Have I said something wrong? Why are you crying?!"
"No..." Mu Yuze’s words were choked as he desperately tried to hold back his tears. He had never cried like this before – not in the past few years since He Juan’s disappearance. Damn it Mu Yuze, since when did you become such a crybaby?! "I–It’s not your fault. I was just—"
He was searching for a suitable explanation that did not include how mushy he was and how he wished He Juan could say those words one – no, two or three more times, when the door to their ICU ward suddenly banged open and a person in sterile scrub charged in with an unstoppable momentum.
"He Juan, what the hell happened to you now?!" Jia Molei’s voice boomed like thunder, immediately dissipating whatever warm atmosphere that remained in the room. His sharp gaze instantly zeroed in on He Juan who was sitting on the bed. And his temper exploded like an erupting volcano. "I told you to sleep, what the fuck are you doing to make your heartbeat fluctuates so much?!"
O–Oh, here comes the infamous crimson-haired doctor, Jia Molei.
He Juan tried to defend his innocence with a flustered look. "N–No... I was just—"
Jia Molei keenly caught sight of Mu Yuze who was covering his own face with both palms and deep creases formed on his brow. "Did you make him cry?! I’ve told you to keep your omega’s emotions stable in case it will aggravate the inflammation of his gland! Are you treating my words like farts?!"
He Juan became even more flustered. "No no, listen to me. I don’t know—"
"It’s not his fault." Mu Yuze sat up straight and spoke up with a frosty tone. There was none of the tears He Juan had seen in his eyes earlier. Instead, he shot a hostile glare toward Jia Molei as though wishing to tear him to pieces. "Juan-gege takes care of me very... very well..." he emphasized the last two words on purpose.
He Juan’s gaze alternated between the two of them, dumbfounded. What was with this electric spark and scent of gunpowder in the air? Had he missed something important? No wait, somehow this scene also looked very familiar...
He Juan had a strong hunch that the two of them might break into a fight if he did not interrupt them soon. As such, he cleared his throat and took the initiative to take the blame. "I’m sorry, Doctor Jia... I will pay more attention next time."
After all, it was him who had made his omega show such a crying look after Jia Molei’s warning not to make him too emotional. This was his dereliction of duty as an Alpha.
Alas, it made his little omega more upset instead. He pursed his lips and reproached He Juan gently. "Juan-gege, why are you apologizing to him?" But compared to his treatment toward Jia Molei, it could be considered as different as the fluffy clouds up in the sky and dirty mud on the ground.
Bewildered, He Juan had no idea how to respond except, "I’m... sorry?"
Mu Yuze narrowed his eyes sharply, causing He Juan to clamp his mouth shut with a sheepish look.
Jia Molei was really going to be blinded by the two dogs in front of him. Confirming that it was only a false alarm this time, he did one last check on He Juan’s vitals and then proceeded to nag the two of them for the next twenty minutes not to release their pheromones and to keep their emotions as stable as possible. He also told He Juan again and again to take some rest, even to the point of telling Mu Yuze to keep an eye on him.
When Jia Molet finally left, He Juan’s shoulders sagged in relief, exhaustion was apparent on his features.
Mu Yuze saw the Alpha’s haggard look and the dark shadows beneath his eyes, and felt so distressed that he was going to die. "Why don’t you... lie down and sleep for a while?"
Alas, he did not expect that as soon as he uttered that sentence, the atmosphere in the air instantly plunged to the freezing point.
