Chapter 158: He Juan’s Little Tail

One could not blame Jia Molei for not realizing it sooner. After all, seven years had passed and both the appearance and the temperament had drastically changed. If not for the familiar stubbornness in his eyes and his old temper that reared its head again, Jia Molei wouldn’t have recognized him either.

He did not actually know where this little tail came from.

One day, He Juan came to him and asked him to do a full-body check up on a little stinky brat who had an explosive temper. The brat was covered in wounds and bruises all over to the point where his face could not be discerned clearly. And he was so short and skinny as if the slightest gust could blow him away.

Jia Molei could immediately tell that the brat had been neglected by his family. However, there were tens if not hundreds of children who suffered from abusive parents, so why would He Juan pay special attention to this little brat of all people?

If Jia Molei had to mention something special about him... then he was a wild cub, a really wild one. He fought all day long and provoked everyone he met as if he was itching for a beating. Jia Molei himself had been taunted so many times that he nearly died of anger.

It was only when he found out how badly malnourished the brat was that his heart became a little soft. He was clearly a fourteen years old teenager, yet at that time he looked more like an eight or nine years old child.

Nonetheless, it was not enough to change the label of ’annoying stinky brat’ in Jia Molei’s mind.

Despite his small build, the brat’s courage was as huge as a tiger. He really did not fear anything. If he met ghost, he would fight ghost. If he met Buddha, he would fight Buddha. No matter how many times he was pummeled to the ground, he would always grit his teeth and stand up again.

But as it turned out, this wild cub had one Achilles’ Heel — He Juan.

At first, Jia Molei nearly thought that this stinky brat had a double personality or something – otherwise why would he only act like two completely different people at random times? It was not until much later that he discovered how the brat would only act like that in front of He Juan...

Only in front of He Juan would he become all meek and obedient. He would tuck all of his sharp edges away and become a soft fluffy rabbit that could be teased and poked as He Juan pleased.

Jia Molei’s gaze became complicated as he looked at Mu Yuze. To think that the stinky brat that year would grow up into a tall and cold beauty, manifest into an omega, became a police officer and found his way back to He Juan... how utterly unbelievable!

"Y–You... You are really that stinky brat?" Jia Molei could not help but confirm again as the truth was too hard for him to digest. He could not help but gape in awe at how miraculous an omega metabolism worked. It could actually turn such a rough and wild cub into a decent human being. "You have grown so big..."

Mu Yuze raised his eyelids and sent him a frosty look. Then he rolled his eyes and deadpanned, "And you haven’t grown at all."

Jia Molei’s pupils shook. This snarky comment... It was exactly that stinky brat’s temper that was asking to be beaten up! Oh damn, why hadn’t he realized it sooner?! It must have been this brat who deliberately acted demure in front of him in order to hide his identity!

When all was said and done, knowing who Mu Yuze was had really given him a peace of mind. If it was this brat... then he did not have to worry. He had seen with his own eyes how this brat stuck to He Juan’s side like a leg pendant.

There was no way Mu Yuze would betray He Juan, he was certain of it.

"Damn..." he recalled something again and could not help but give Mu Yuze another once-over, dumbfounded. "Don’t tell me... did you become a police officer because of He Juan?"

"Alright!" Su Xieren clapped from where he was standing, drawing the other two’s attention. "I know that you two are having a touching reunion, but you can discuss the past later. Can we directly talk about how da-ge got drugged and who his enemies are?"

Jia Molei and Mu Yuze’s expression crumbled in the exact same way, their distaste for each other was as clear as day. If Su Xieren could read their mind right now, he would find that both of them were screaming in unison, ’Fuck your touching reunion! Who wants to have a touching reunion with this guy?!’

Jia Molei raked his fingers through his filthy hair and sighed. Su Xieren’s interjection had arrived timely and managed to drag him back to their current peril. He could see that Su Xieren had a lot of questions, but fortunately the latter was sensible enough not to press for an answer, much to his relief. He was still not ready to divulge everything to Su Xieren yet.

"About He Juan’s enemies... they’re not many. But I can’t tell you about them," Jia Molei uttered as he rubbed his face roughly, frustrated.

He was telling the truth. The ones who knew He Juan was XIU were only a handful of people, and the ones who could track his location could only be counted with one hand. Alas, each of them was a bloodthirsty behemoth who did not hesitate to make He Juan’s life a living hell.

Jia Molei could only curse He Juan’s exceptional ability to choose the right opponents. He saw Mu Yuze and Su Xieren’s skeptical look and spread his hands helplessly, "It’s not like I don’t want to tell you two, but I don’t want to put you in danger. The less you know, the better."

Mu Yuze’s shoulders were shaking in suppressed rage. "He is already like this... and you still intend to hide the truth?!"

Jia Molei was unmoved and his words were aimed straight at Mu Yuze’s weakness. "If He Juan regained his memory, I’m sure that he would agree with me."

He knew that Ku Jin was already keeping an eye on Mu Yuze. Less because of his relationship with He Juan, and more because of his position as the law enforcer.

He did not even have to think to guess that Ku Jin must be scheming to use Mu Yuze as his knife. Out of everyone, he was the most wary of Ku Jin and the person behind him. They were akin to a ticking time bomb who could fucking explode at any second. Jia Molei really did not want to drag any more innocent party into this messy matter and that’s why he was adamant on keeping everything a secret.

But he was different. He did not mind being caught in the eye of the storm. Ever since he took He Juan away seven years ago, he was already prepared to die at any time. He only hoped that he would not have a meaningless death and he would at least be able to drag one or two bastards down with him. Either way, he wouldn’t have been alive today if not for He Juan’s help. To use his own life in exchange for that huge favor... that’s quite fair.

"You...!" Mu Yuze choked on his breath. Jia Molei had jabbed him right on his sore spot.

He knew that what the Beta said was true. If... If He Juan had not lost his memory, then he would have preferred to keep everyone in the dark and bear the burden by himself. It was what happened seven years ago. Juan-gege had left without saying anything and until now, Mu Yuze still had no idea what kind of accident had caused him to become like this.

But... he had already grown up now! He was no longer a child who could only hide behind He Juan’s back. Now, he had the power and capability to protect He Juan. How could he be reconciled to sit still and watch as harm befell the person he loved?!

"Tell me," he whispered in a shaky voice. "I swear that I will—"

An urgent knock on the door interrupted his sentence. Doctor Tang called out in fluster. "Doctor Jia, can you come out for a second? The situation doesn’t look good!"

Jia Molei’s face sank and he strode forward to yank the door open. Everyone crowded in front of the monitor again to see the newly detected data. The tranquilizer should have taken effect by now, but not only did the pheromones level in the air not recede, it became more intense instead!

He Juan’s condition was getting more severe! They had to think of an alternative method to stabilize him as soon as possible or else... his gland was going to be damaged!

Doctor Tang made a split second decision. "Release the synthetic pheromones. We have to try—"

"I will go."

Everyone’s gaze snapped to the one who had just spoken – Mu Yuze.

"Let me go to him. I..." Mu Yuze inhaled deeply and declared with his dark eyes blazing in fiery determination, "I am his Omega. No one can comfort him better than me."
