Captured By The Cold Detective (BL)-Chapter 136: What A Coincidence
Everyone showed an astonished look when they heard this unexpected news. In their eyes, Mu Yuze had always been outstanding, capable with an unique temperament that made him look a bit lofty. However, when this loftiness was backed with great skills, it was not called arrogance but confidence instead. If they could use a metaphor, for them Mu Yuze was akin to a god that dwelled in a snow-capped mountain, dignified and unapproachable.
Who could have guessed that he had such a troublesome childhood?
The surprising news notwithstanding, everyone’s gaze toward Kang Guanyu gained a subtle hint. One person finally spoke up and represented what they were thinking, "Just how did you find out something like this?"
"Hehe..." Kang Guanyu rubbed his nose sheepishly. "Actually, if you’re diligent in sorting the files, you will find the record in the database ten years ago."
Everyone gave him a speechless look. Who would be so nosy to flip through the files from years ago? Did they not have anything better to do? The only person who would do something like this was Kang Guanyu, okay?! At an utter loss of words, they could only give Kang Guanyu a thumbs-up.
Now that they knew they could read the case file in the database, everyone rolled their chairs back to their desks and turned on their computers, eager to learn the reason why Mu Yuze insisted on Wu Yuan’s innocence.
Was it merely sympathy or... did he see something that they couldn’t?
Alas, before they could do that, a man from the forensic center barged in with a loud voice, flustered and excited in equal measure. "Captain...! Where is Captain Li Zhi?!"
Soon after, the door to Li Zhi’s office swung open and two people stepped out. Judging from their dark expression, it seemed like they had not reached an agreement yet. The other members did not dare to utter a peep and pretended to know nothing. Instead, they focused on the new visitor and crowded around him. "What’s wrong? Why are you shouting so loud? Is there a new development about the case?!"
Li Zhi received the report handed over by the man and flipped through it, his brows knitting deeply.
At the same time, the forensic scientist could not hold back his blabbermouth and told the others excitedly, "We’re collecting blood samples from the victim’s body for record purposes and guess what we found? It’s AX-03[1]! And the concentration is quite high at that!"
Everyone, including Li Zhi who was skimming through the report, froze in shock.
AX-03. If someone worked in the public security bureau, even if they were not a member of the Narcotics Division, they would still hear about this drug more or less. It was a drug that was only effective for Alphas.
It was common knowledge that though Alphas were considered the top of the food chain in society, there were distinctive ranks within Alphas themselves.
Alphas who were naturally commanding, charismatic and able to pressure and dominate other Alphas with their pheromones alone were few and far between. They were the absolute cream of the crop and their number only amounted to 0.001% of the entire Alpha populations. They were often referred to as superior Alphas.
On the other hand, there were also ’ordinary’ and ’weak’ Alphas. Ordinary alphas could still exude pheromones that affected omegas, but their ability to suppress other Alphas were close to none. If two ordinary alphas fought, then the scene could only be described as wild chickens pecking each other. And lastly, there were weak alphas whose pheromones were so thin that they were nearly negligible. The last category could be caused by premature manifestation, gland disorder and other circumstantial injuries.
At first, AX-03 was used to treat weak alphas. The chemicals in the drug would stimulate the gland to produce stronger pheromones and in exchange, caused their physique to become stronger and more vigorous.
Unfortunately, it was not until years later that the fatal side effect of this drug was found. AX-03 was simply too potent to the point where it could cause an Alpha to go berserk and lose control of their pheromones. Alphas who consumed AX-03 over a certain limit would result in permanent damage to their gland and the possibility of it happening was almost 100%. It was a very frightening number, yet no other drugs had been invented to counter this predicament.
As a result, AX-03 was banned and further usage would fall under illegal drug distribution.
Of course, there were Alphas who had enjoyed the positive short-term effect of AX-03 and were unwilling to stop. Who did not want to become stronger? Who did not want to become superior Alphas? After they had known how it felt to hold great powers in their body, who wanted to return to being weak and helpless? Due to their innate nature, Alphas always wanted to challenge themselves and they arrogantly thought that they could control themselves and stop the usage once they reached the limit.
Once there was demand, there would always be supply. Correspondingly, drug dealers flourished and countless transactions were done behind the shadows.
The Narcotics Division had been working tirelessly to eradicate AX-03 from society and they had been making steady improvement over the years. The Violent Crime Division even thought that their brothers next door had succeeded in taking this drug under control, and now... what did they just find?!
The victim of tonight’s murder case was an addict!
Li Zhi frowned and his instinct as a seasoned criminal investigator warned him that something was amiss. But he just could not put his finger to it. While he was thinking, he ordered Kang Guanyu who was the closest to him, "Go and contact the people next door."
"Roger!" Kang Guanyu obediently trotted to the nearest phone, yet before he could reach it, a call arrived in a timely manner. He instantly picked it up, "Hello, this is the Violent Crime Unit. Oh... Old Lang, I was just going to call you! What... What did you just say?!" His eyes widened in shock, mouth hanging open. His loud exclamations attracted everyone’s attention and people began to frown uneasily.
Kang Guanyu’s face crumpled as if he had just heard a bizarre news. He hung up, lifted his head and his gaze collided with Li Zhi who was staring at him.
"What a coincidence..." he squeezed out an ugly smile, bewildered and confused. "Our brothers next door had originally planned to ambush a drug den tonight and guess what? The huge fish they are supposed to catch... is our poor victim."
