Chapter 100: Xuanlong

Li Zhi’s face sank and before anyone could react, he strode forward to grab the box from Kang Guanyu’s hands, unbuckled the lock and turned it upside down so the documents inside were strewn all over the long table.

Unfolded in front of everyone’s eyes were pieces of Li Mingzhao’s photographs and the irrefutable contract of his transaction with the illegal auction and child trafficking channels. It was so comprehensive that they could directly submit the evidence to the higher-ups and demand an arrest warrant right there and then.

—They were utterly unaware that... two photos were missing from the original stack. It was the one featuring Li Mingzhao and the male foreigner, as well as the picture of the aforementioned foreigner with He Juan.

Everyone was dumbfounded. Let’s not mention the fact that the big guy they were searching for turned out to be Li Mingzhao, the CEO and founder of Beida Group, or how atrocious the deeds he had done. What were the odds that someone would conveniently send this evidence right when they needed it the most?

Li Zhi pressed his lips thin and his expression was frighteningly somber. He never believed in coincidences, ever! Then the only possibility was... someone had been monitoring the progress of their case closely, enough to send them timely assistance whenever they needed it!

He immediately barked out an order, "Who has delivered this package here? They must not have gone far. Find that person for me even if you have to dig three feet underground!" 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

The group of dazed officers scrambled away in a hurry. They also understood the severity of the matter. Whoever had sent this to them must be related one way or another to Miss Zhao, which meant they had an important role in the case! They must find this person as soon as possible!

Alas, they were bound to be disappointed.

After asking the officer downstairs, they discovered that the one who had sent the package was someone from a delivery company. Through many twists and turns, they hastily locked in on the worker on duty of the delivery company to interrogate him on who had sent the package in the first place.

"I–I don’t know who he is nor have I seen him before!" The terrified customer service cried out tremblingly. "You must know that we have no shortage of people who send their packages with no return address! If you want to know more, then you... you should go and check the surveillance camera!"

Recently, the officers had psychological trauma whenever they heard the words ’surveillance camera’, thanks to the continuous effort of combing through countless footage for the past few days. They instinctively felt their stomach churn in nausea. However, no matter how much anguish they were in, they still had to go through the surveillance cameras simply because they were slaves of society.

Unfortunately, they received one bad news after another.

First, the surveillance cameras inside and around the delivery company were not as comprehensive as the crime scene which was situated in the middle of the city. They only had one CCTV on the entrance, which caught the figure of a man coming in with the familiar package.

And then came the second bad news, the man covered himself so thoroughly that all they could discern from the surveillance camera was his gender and his approximate height. They tried to trace this person just like how they did with Long Guozhi.

However, either the man had a more skillful anti-reconnaissance skill than Long Guozhi or because the officers’ luck had finally run out, in the end they lost him after seeing him enter a certain secluded alley. If they still wanted to find him after that... then it would be no different from searching for a needle in the middle of haystacks!

After hearing the report, Li Zhi fell silent for a few seconds then summoned the officers back. "It’s okay, we will search again later. Come back first, we have gotten the arrest warrant. It’s time to catch Li Mingzhao!"

At 8 in the morning, two police cars were dispatched from the Bureau, their red and blue sirens flashing boldly, piercing through the stream of morning traffic like a polished spear. Straight toward Phoenix Ablaze where Li Mingzhao was last seen to spend his night in.

In the end, the reputable and dignified CEO of Beida Group was cuffed and brought into the police car clad only in a thin sleeping robe, his hair disheveled. A few dubious reddish marks could be seen on his neck. His photo was spread throughout the country in less than half an hour, and the reputation he had built for decades came tumbling down in a blink of an eye just like a fragile sandcastle.

This time, no matter how capable the lawyers he hired were, or how extensive his line of network was, they could not save him from the merciless vice of law.

As the owner of Phoenix Ablaze, Han Shan was implicated by this matter and had to make a trip to the police station to give his statement. Initially, he was going to use his connection to avoid this humiliating moment. Alas, it was unknown which God or devil was in power, the one who eventually came to get him was... Mu Yuze.

Mu Yuze, the devil’s pampered omega, whom he had just seen the night before.

As soon as Han Shan saw this cold beauty flashing a police badge in front of him, his vision immediately darkened and if not for the bodyguards supporting him in time, he would have fainted right there and then.

"Please follow me to the station," Mu Yuze deadpanned.

"Yes, yes, yes, of course, I will!" Han Shan took out a handkerchief to wipe the cold sweat on his face and squeezed out a tearful smile on his face. "My apologies for not recognizing Officer Mu sooner! Who could have guessed that..."

Mu Yuze cast him a frosty glance and he immediately clicked his jaws shut. "Remember..." the omega warned him in a light tone. "There is no Mr. Xiu in Phoenix Ablaze last night."

Han Shan could only nod his head again and again like chicken pecking rice, especially meek and obedient.

Kang Guanyu tugged the window blinds down enough to peek at the crowd of reporters who had gathered downstairs. He couldn’t help but whistle sharply. "Oh dear Jesus, look at how famous our Yuyang Municipal Bureau is— aww!!" He covered the back of his head and turned around, aggrieved. "Capt, what did you hit me for?!"

Li Zhi lowered the roll of papers in his hand. "Cease talking and work more. Look at your partner." He gestured at Chen Lian who was diligently typing a report with an extremely focused gaze.

Kang Guanyu pouted his lips. "Hmph, you can’t compare me to Chen Lian!"

"Oh? Why not?" Li Zhi raised one of his brows, challenging the little duckling to retort.

Kang Guanyu grumbled under his breath. He still wanted to live a long life! Definitely could not offend the Buddha in front of him! After adjusting his mindset, he showed a flattering smile and took the initiative to pull a chair out for Li Zhi, then poured a cup of water for him. "Hehe, come here and sit, Captain. You have worked hard." Pretending to massage him on the shoulders, Kang Guanyu took the opportunity to ask, "The case... we should have been able to close it, right?"

Li Zhi let the little duckling knead and press on his shoulders with his boneless hands while he reached into his pocket for another cigarette. However, thinking of how many sticks he had sucked for the past few days, he finally held himself back reluctantly. "The case has already gotten the attention of the Interpol now that child trafficking channels are involved. It’s already out of our scope of responsibility."

Chen Lian, who had been focused on her own report, suddenly lifted her head and asked, "Xuanlong... they are the biggest mafia clan that existed more than ten years ago, right?"

"Ah, you’re right!" Kang Guanyu was very proficient when it came to this kind of gossip. "It’s indeed Xuanlong! Let me tell you an interesting gossip I have heard from a friend of my friend..." he deliberately lowered his voice to make it more mysterious, effectively drawing the attention of everyone in the room. "Do you know why Xuanlong was destroyed in a single night? Rumors said that... the Boss was obsessed with someone who already has a partner, to the point where he was willing to die with them! Then bam — they committed suicide together!"
