Chapter 99: Unknown Package

"...!"

"...ge!"

"Da-ge!!!"

It took Su Xieren a few attempts to pull He Juan out of whatever thought he was having now. Seeing He Juan’s miserable state, his brows furrowed deeper and he hissed under his breath, "If I had known something like this would happen, I would not have shown the photos to you in the first place!"

He Juan barely clung to his sanity only to hear the Beta’s ridiculous words. He let out a strained laugh despite himself. "Xieren, you... how can you say that? Have you been planning to keep this from me forever?"

"Of course not," he retorted. "But at least, I will prepare you mentally and physically first. How are you doing?"

"As fine as I can in this kind of situation," He Juan replied with a wry chuckle. He turned on the faucet, washed his mouth and splashed his face with cold water for a while. He had to calm down. There was no use brooding over a past he could not remember. Having known what real darkness felt like, he did not want to go back there again. He must not.

He Juan spent some time giving himself a prep talk before he straightened up. In an instant, his appearance returned to the usual one, save for his slightly pale complexion. He hesitated for a while before patting Su Xieren on the back of his hand. "...I’m fine now. Thank you, didi."

Su Xieren visibly heaved a sigh of relief. Grabbing He Juan by the arm, he hauled the man to the living room and pushed him down to the couch as he gestured to the kitchen, "Sit here for a while. I will make you warm honey water. I think you need some sugar to refresh yourself." He was really efficient. Less than two minutes later, a cup of steaming honey water appeared in He Juan’s hands. The warmth seeped into his fingertips, dissipating the lingering chill on his bones.

He Juan could not help but let out a wistful sigh. The Beta knew him all too well. As soon as he swallowed a small cup of warm honey water, He Juan immediately felt rejuvenated and was not as depressed as he was a few minutes ago anymore.

He swept his gaze over the low table and found that the scattered documents were no longer there. Unbeknownst to him, Su Xieren had placed the photos and contract back to the little box – and the box was nowhere to be seen. He must be afraid that the sight would trigger He Juan again. His xiao didi was really too kind and thoughtful...

Having made up his mind, He Juan placed the empty cup on the table and told him decisively, "Send it to the police. Miss Zhao’s murderer must receive the punishment he deserves." As for what would happen after his photo with the foreigner got into the police’s hands, unexpectedly it did not bother He Juan as much. He would just cross the bridge when he came to it.

Su Xieren hummed coolly. "Don’t worry. I am originally planning to do it after showing you."

He Juan stared at the man in front of them, then barked out a genuine laugh. "I was worried for nothing... I should have known that you will be more level-headed than me, Xieren." Then his voice softened as he relayed his sincere gratitude, "Thank you for showing it to me. You might not have any idea, but... it means a lot to me."

He had spent countless sleepless nights in the past, trying to guess what kind of life he was living before he lost his memory. Just looking at the wounds on his body, He Juan already had a nagging suspicion that his life would not be ordinary. After all, no matter what the doctors had told him, he was not stupid; he knew that those hideous wounds could not have come from a simple car accident. Now that he had discovered a clue he could follow, He Juan felt quite at peace with himself, much to his surprise and bewilderment.

He did not stay for long. After making sure that Su Xieren was fine, he left the apartment and drove to the school. Unfortunately, he had a morning class today. He Juan could not help but sigh. From now on, he should be prepared to be called into the police station for investigation at any time.

He would have no time to teach. Rather than asking for a leave of absence and inconvenienced Principal Wei each time, perhaps he should just send in a resignation once and for all...

At seven in the morning, just as the investigation was stuck due to Long Guozhi’s uncooperative act, the police station suddenly received an unknown package which did not have a return address. Moreover, it was specifically addressed to the Violent Crime Unit’s leader, Captain Li Zhi.

The front rookie did not dare to do anything to the package and instead made a call upstairs. The one who answered it was Kang Guanyu. Five minutes later, the entire team stood around the little package, trying to guess what the content would be.

"A secret admirer?"

"Hehe, do you think our Captain can have a secret admirer?"

"What do you mean by that?! Wait until Captain hears you and he will pummel you to the ground!"

This was the first time someone had sent an anonymous package to the police station, especially for Li Zhi! The group of hot-blooded males could not help but get excited as their imagination got way ahead of them. Could it be... the forever single curse in their team was going to be broken by Captain himself?!

"What’s the matter..." Li Zhi sluggishly walked out of his office, yawning so wide that tears were squeezed out of the corner of his eyes.

The crowd immediately made way for him as they hooted like a group of wild monkeys, "Capt! Look at what you have received in this beautiful morning! Open it! Hurry up and let us see which Alpha, Beta, or Omega has sent it!"

Chen Lian gazed at the package and murmured under her breath, "It’s not a bomb, is it...?" Unfortunately, her voice was too small to be noticed by the rowdy crowd. The only one who heard her was Mu Yuze, who chose to stay out of the crowd and stood quietly in the corner. He merely cast her a glance then continued to stare forward as if he heard nothing at all. The atmosphere that shrouded both of them was very out of place amidst the group of overexcited officers.

"Arrgh, get out! Get out of the way!" It was unknown which words had offended him, Kang Guanyu suddenly exploded in impatience, shoved a few brothers aside and grabbed the package for himself. Then under a dozen shocked and dumbfounded eyes, he started to tear at the paper wrap like an enraged little beast.

"Wait—" Li Zhi wanted to stop him for fear that there would be something dangerous inside, but it was too late.

An exquisite middle-sized box appeared in front of everyone’s eyes. The delicate pattern on the ebony box clearly came from outstanding craftsmanship, very breathtaking and splendid in a glance. It looked very expensive and was not in line with their Captain’s slovenly appearance at all.

Almost in an instant, heavy silence cloaked in the otherwise chaotic space. Even Kang Guanyu was frozen still with the box held in his hands.

This little black box’s appearance... it just happened to match very well with the important item Long Guozhi was supposed to find. Because they had finally torn this little piece of information out of Long Guozhi’s mouth with much difficulty, it was still very fresh in everyone’s memory.

A bizarre possibility surfaced in their mind at the same time.

"This box..." An officer piped in with a weak voice, effectively bringing everyone out of daze. "Guys, are you thinking what I am thinking?"
