Chapter 101: Do You Think...

Everyone was shocked when they heard Kang Guanyu’s words. However, they soon came to their senses, grabbed whatever trinket was on their tables and threw it at him in a zealous manner. Pencils, erasers, paper clips, all of them cut through the air like thousands of knives.

Kang Guanyu cried out in shock and hastily hid behind the Captain’s back. "I was wrong! I was wrong, don’t throw anymore! Aiyah, haven’t I said that it is gossip? Gossip!!"

Being pulled as a shield by the mischievous Kang Guanyu, Li – collateral damage – Zhi expressionlessly shook off the erasers and paper clips on his body. His expression morphed into a scowl, and the officers abruptly cowered and did not dare to play around anymore.

"Nonsense!" One of them harrumphed. "Who doesn’t know the reason why Xuanlong collapsed overnight? Isn’t it because their strongest shield and protector was gone?"

As soon as the person’s words settled in the air, a subtle atmosphere cloaked the entire room. Everyone had a complicated look on their faces as they had no idea what kind of attitude they should show toward this matter.

The incident had happened seven years ago, and it had even caused a huge sensation in the entire country. Even the blind and deaf would know it. For rookies who had just joined the Bureau a few years ago, this major case had even been turned into a mandatory course in the Police Academy. Everyone had gotten the homework to analyze it at least once or twice.

Xuanlong was a infamous mafia clan. Just like the name, it was akin to a dark and mysterious dragon which coiled the entire sky and shrouded everyone with fear and apprehension. Nobody knew how it came to be, but it appeared out of nowhere one day and showed its terrifying might by cleaning up the bandits in the area.

That year, the number of crimes in the country was staggering. People were killed haphazardly on the street; Omegas were kidnapped, r*ped and abused; drug dealing could be done in broad daylight; even stealing and looting stores were a very common sight to see. Foreboding clouds obscured the sky, overshadowing the country in a heavy air of gloom. Even the police were utterly overwhelmed by this.

However, due to Xuanlong’s emergence, those bandits abruptly vanished in less than a week, their rotten roots were plucked off cleanly, sending an unprecedented peace and security for the distressed citizens.

Gradually, rumors started to form about this group. It was unknown where it came from, yet just like the rapid growth of mushrooms on damp rainy days, words spread widely in an unimaginable speed until nobody could even confirm whether it was the truth or false anymore.

Hearsay this almost impossible task was done by none other than the right hand man of Xuanlong’s Boss. Nobody had ever seen him before as everyone who laid eyes on him would undoubtedly die before they could tell the tale. He stood on the forefront of Xuanlong and protected the Boss tightly.

He was Xuanlong’s strongest shield and protector. People gave him the nickname — XIU.

On one hand, the higher authority was relieved by the sharp decrease of crimes in the country. But on the other hand, they could not help but be wary toward this infamous clan simply because... their method was truly so vicious and merciless!

It was like escaping from the fox den only to enter the tiger’s mouth.

Compared to Xuanlong, those bandits were nothing at all. If the police were unable to handle the bandits, what could they possibly do to Xuanlong? For now, Xuanlong seemed to side with justice, but it would be so easy for them to switch sides once their interest was met. When that time came... then a great disaster would befall the country!

Just as the police were seeking a way to suppress Xuanlong, seven years ago, for reasons unknown, its strongest protector XIU abruptly vanished from the surface of the Earth. And closely following this incident was the destruction of Xuanlong Group. The news of their demise caught everyone off guard, it was so sudden and unforeseen. They went as abrupt as the way they came, yet the impact they left behind was everlasting.

Everyone could not help but feel that... this disappearance was only temporary. One day, Xuanlong would stand tall again. Just like how it did a decade ago.

"I never thought that I would hear the news from Xuanlong again..." An officer picked up the copy of Li Mingzhao’s contract with an upset look. "Look at this. The earliest contract dated as far as nine years ago. Even then, Xuanlong has already been involved in the child trafficking business. Bah! What uncrowned hero of justice? They’re just stinky wolves pretending to be sheep!"

He was originally a fan of XIU because his family was some of the helpless citizens who benefited from the massive clean-up all those years ago. But seeing this... he felt like all of his tender feelings had been manipulated! How hateful!

Another officer gave his opinion. "Xuanlong fell apart seven years ago and it’s in line with Li Mingzhao’s contract. There is a gap of transactions during that period but... he started again two years ago. And the latest one is even dated a few months ago. Do you think..."

He did not continue, but everyone seemed to hear his question inside their minds.

Do you think Xuanlong has returned quietly without anyone knowing, only lurking behind the shadows as they stretched their claws into this peaceful country?

A frosty voice suddenly interjected from the side. "Xuanlong has never shied away when they did dirty business. The recent transactions of Li Mingzhao shows that the other party is an underground black market. It’s not Xuanlong."

Everyone whipped their heads to look at the one who had just spoken, Mu Yuze, and once again shocked that this eternally ice cube officer would join their discussion. Then, they pondered deeply on Mu Yuze’s words and thought that it was very reasonable.

That’s right, if it was a business belonging to Xuanlong, then there would always be a trademark seal of a black dragon on the contract. But the recent ones... they were all obscure and anonymous, only leaving a string of numbers that the technicians were still trying to decode.

It could be concluded that after Xuanlong disappeared, Li Mingzhao was afraid that he would be implicated and thus decided to lay low for a few years. Then two years ago, he came across another trustworthy channel and could not help but return to the old ways again.

"Alright, we will stop this discussion right here." Li Zhi clapped twice to pull everyone’s attention to the present. "The most important thing we have to do right now is to pull a statement from Li Mingzhao about his motive to kill Zhao Xinya, his relationship with the culprit Long Guozhi, and also find the person who has sent this evidence to us. As for the underground black market and these transactions, it will be handed to the Interpol! Quickly write your report like Chen Lian so we can close the case today!"

Hearing that they could finally get a rest, the officers were rejuvenated and cheered out loud, "Yes, Sir!!"

It was at that moment that the officer, who had been tasked to record a statement from the staff at Phoenix Ablaze, barged into the room and blurted out, "Captain, we found someone who knows Zhao Xinya and Li Mingzhao’s past relationship!"
