Chapter 124: Let’s Build Our Little Family Again

Charlotte blinked several times, shocked because she had absolutely no idea about this.

She had asked Damon before to tell her when his rut cycle was coming, but he always brushed it off with the same reply, "Don’t think about that."

And now, with his rut cycle approaching, he hadn’t told her anything at all!

"Why didn’t you tell me?" Charlotte immediately pulled her phone from her pocket. "I’ll ask Mr. Barnes to give me some days off. How long do you think you’ll need? A week should be enough, right?"

Since she was already in the final stage of filming, she only had a few scenes left, most of the remaining ones didn’t even involve her.

Therefore, she could ask Logan to push back her shooting schedule a little and let the other actors film their parts first.

Honestly, Charlotte didn’t really want to do that because she already felt like she’d been a burden to the director and the rest of the cast too many times.

But how could she leave Damon alone during his rut?

"Don’t worry about it," Damon said, gently stopping her hand. "I’ll be fine. Just focus on your work."

Charlotte frowned, clearly not happy with that answer. "What do you mean? You’re about to go into rut, and you think I’m not allowed to be worried about you?"

Damon took a deep breath and said, "I’ve always gone through it alone. It’s not a big deal." He continued, "That’s why, sweetheart, you really don’t have to worry."

"But this time is different," she said firmly, holding his hands tighter. "You have a mate now. You can’t go through this by yourself anymore." 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶

An Alpha could manage his rut alone if he didn’t have a mate yet, but once he had marked his Luna, there was no way he could endure his rut cycle by himself.

It would be too painful, and the desire would never fade unless it was released with his mate.

That was why Charlotte couldn’t leave Damon alone.

Damon had been there for her over and over again, more times than she could count.

Now it was her turn to stay by his side, to help him through this, and make sure he didn’t have to suffer.

"Charlotte," he said gently, "Sweetheart, if I go through my rut with you, there’s a high chance you’ll get pregnant again. I don’t think you’re ready for that yet."

Charlotte fell silent as his words sank in.

They had previously agreed to postpone having children until things had settled down, at least until they were sure Julian was no longer a threat.

But how long would that take?

How long were they supposed to delay their happiness just because a bastard like Julian still haunted their lives?

Charlotte had walked away from him a long time ago, but even now, his presence lingered, becoming a wall between her and the thing she wanted most.

"Damon, I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately." Charlotte folded her arms across her chest and shifted her weight to one leg. She looked hesitant, as if worried that what she was about to say might be met with rejection.

"Since my filming is already in the final stage, and we still have a few months before the movie premieres ..." Charlotte paused before continuing, "How about we try again?"

Damon understood what she meant, but to be sure, he asked, "Try what?"

"A baby," Charlotte said, locking her gaze onto his. She looked completely serious as she spoke. "I want to try having a baby again with you."

"This time, we know I can get pregnant, so we’ll be more prepared to welcome it."

She bit her lower lip, waiting for his response. "What do you think, Damon?"

"This is something we need to think through carefully, Charlotte." He lowered his voice and asked gently, "Are you sure about this? Don’t you think it would be safer to wait until Julian is caught?"

Charlotte leaned in closer, so close their foreheads almost touched. Her voice trembled with emotion. "Until when, Damon? I’m tired of letting Julian control my life. Every time I want to make a decision for myself, he’s always in my mind, holding me back."

She took a deep breath, her hands gently cradling his face. "I just... I just want to have a baby with you."

Her voice was soft but sure. "For the longest time, I thought having a child was something I had to do, like it was part of being the perfect wife. But it’s not like that with you."

"I don’t want to have a baby just to prove I’m your perfect mate." Her eyes softened, a tender smile forming on her lips. "I want to have a child with you because it feels right. Because when I picture the future, I see you ... I see us ... and I see a little life that comes from our love."

Her dream was actually quite simple.

She didn’t want a flawless life, or a picture-perfect family. She just wanted a small world of her own, filled with love, laughter, and soft, everyday moments.

She wanted a child who carried a piece of Damon and a piece of her, someone born from their bond, someone who would be the living proof of their love.

A tiny hand to hold, a joyful laugh echoing in the room, a pair of eyes that reminded her of Damon every time she looked into them.

That was all she ever wanted.

Not out of pressure.

Not because it was expected.

But because it was something her heart deeply wanted with him.

"Maybe it’s too soon," she added, her smile fading a little when Damon didn’t answer right away. "We can talk about it la—"

"I want it," he said, cutting her off gently.

He cupped Charlotte’s cheeks the same way she did to him, pressing his forehead against hers. "I want to have a child with you too. If you’re willing ... let’s try again. This time, we’ll be more ready than before."

His thumb brushed against her skin with a tender touch. "Not because anyone expects us to ... but because we both want this. Together."

Charlotte blinked, her eyes slowly filling with tears, not from sadness, but from overwhelming relief.

"You really mean that?" she whispered.

Damon nodded. "I do. I’ve thought about it, too. Not just the idea of being a father, but being your partner through it all. Waking up at night because our baby’s crying, arguing over baby names, laughing when they take their first steps—" he paused, a soft smile tugging at his lips, "—I want all of that. With you."

Charlotte let out a soft laugh, her heart full. "I know it won’t be easy. Julian is still out there, and maybe things won’t go exactly as planned ... but I don’t want to keep putting our life on hold because of him."

"I’ll protect you even more fiercely this time," Damon said. "I’ll make sure he never takes anything precious from us ever again."

Charlotte’s smile grew wider. "Then let’s do it," she whispered. "Let’s make a family."

Damon leaned in, kissing her lips gently. "Yes," he murmured. "Let’s create our own little family."
