Bought For A Baby, Kept For A Lifetime-Chapter 99: My Date.
Her schedule for the evening was vividly clear. While the whole of Sterling Enterprises would be out there at the event, she would be spending a calm evening at home.
She would do a nice relaxing face mask and sleep endlessly.
However, that very day at precisely six thirty in the evening, a strange set of people suddenly appeared at her doorstep.
"Are you miss Anne Thompson?" A beautiful looking female asked.
"Yes?" She answered doubtfully.
They instantly rushed in, pulling wheeled racks and carrying boxes without even waiting for her to permit them to come in.
"Wait, who are you people? What’s going on?"
The female who’d spoken earlier was the one who spoke again.
"My name is Sally and this is my team, I’ve been instructed by Mr Andrew Sterling to get you ready for tonight’s event."
Anne was shocked to hear that.
The giant tornado sent them?
"I won’t be going to the event, I just called for a leave."
"Mr Sterling said you can’t refuse to attend, your face will be appearing in the ad for the new launch, so you have to be there."
Jasmine peeked from a corner eating popcorn and wearing pajamas, clearly preparing to relax for the night.
"That dress Is so beautiful!" She exclaimed, staring with glistening eyes at a dress one of the ladies held.
Anne had told her about the event and her decision to skip it, but upon seeing the elegant looking dress, Jasmine instantly opposed that decision.
"You’re going! If you get to wear that beautiful dress then you have to go!" Jasmine decided excitedly.
Anne knew saying no to the giant tornado would be trouble, not to mention the responsibility of having to be there because she shot the ad.
Did he have to go this far as to sending people to her home?
With a sigh of resignation, Anne had no choice but to agree.
Soft brushes dusted her cheeks lightly, a gentle flicker of color over her lids.
Blush-red fabric fluttered in the air as the dress was lifted, the softness of the attire brushed her skin tenderly as she wore it.
Her hair was made in an updo, leaving a few curly strands to frame her face elegantly.
When Jasmine set eyes on Anne after she was dressed, she gasped dramatically.
The latter was hurried out of the doors by the people who’d dressed her up, into a waiting SUV parked outside her apartment building, where a few people had begun to gather and whisper wondering who owned such a luxurious looking car.
.....
The event venue was packed, luxury cars driving into the gates, presenting a beautiful looking invitation card at the entrance before being allowed in.
A luxuriously grand ballroom welcomed every guest upon entrance, remarkable floor to ceiling windows displayed a sparkling city skyline. The view equally as dazzling to look at as the ballroom itself.
Soft golden chandeliers hung overhead, casting a beautiful warm glow over marble floors and tables draped in silver and ivory linens, each holding a centerpiece of a toweringly arranged fresh white orchids and roses.
Gentle music from live string quartets flowed though the air, while waiters in crisp uniforms glided between guests offering trays of signature cocktails and artfully plated gourmet bites.
The whole atmosphere felt like a scene from a glorious fairytale, exclusive and unforgettable.
Guests mingled, taking the rare opportunity to deepen their network with other important guests present.
Many mothers craned their necks looking for the Sterling sons, strictly holding their beautifully dolled up daughters for a quick opportunity at an introduction to a potential husband.
The idea of marrying into the Sterling family was so enticing, many had spent fortunes to make their daughters look like the absolute dream girl the Sterling sons couldn’t refuse.
"Madam, Donald Sterling has been spotted outside the building, he’s currently making his way in as we speak." A waiter tasked by a middle aged woman dressed in a pristine looking blue gown came to inform.
"Bernadette, be ready, Donald Sterling is about to make his entrance." The woman instantly called her daughter.
"But... what if he comes with someone else?" The previous rejection had clearly taken a hit at the beautiful young woman’s confidence.
"He was spotted alone, the atmosphere is nice and romantic, strike up a conversation with him." Elise instructed strictly.
She’d known her daughter had previously been infatuated with the young Sterling son, and with their business currently suffering a strong hit from competition, a nice collaboration with Sterling Enterprises would give them a great boost. It all worked perfectly, if her daughter could manage to enchant the young man, then she would breathe a nice sigh of relief knowing their company could be saved by a marriage arrangement.
Bernadette bit her lip, uncertain if she should tell her mother that she’d already humiliated herself by asking him to be her date to the event but he rejected her. It was a good thing no one uploaded the video of that day on social media, if her mother found out, she couldn’t imagine how badly she would be scolded.
Having no choice but to listen to the woman, Bernadette moved closer to the entrance noticing another woman grabbing her daughter to stand near the entrance no doubt waiting to snag one of the Sterling sons as well.
Money and power combined with good looks could turn some people into fiends to capture that person. Bernadette wasn’t surprised at all.
She began to feel nervous as she wondered how to face Donald again, she knew as a woman she should have a sense of pride after being rejected publicly, and truthfully she had cried, resented and cursed Donald Sterling since then, but she somehow wasn’t blaming him for it.
She didn’t want to humiliate herself again and certainly not here because Donald might reject her again, but she’d never said no to her mother.
Just then, the double doors were opened by the bodyguards stationed at the entrance.
Donald Sterling strode in under the sharp appreciating gazes of most of the guests present. He was dressed in pristinely, looking like a prince from a modern dynasty.
Bernadette instantly froze, changing her mind from approaching him.
Many middle aged women flocked the innocent young man and Bernadette watched on silently.
An announcement came on stage at that point, elder Sterling standing up on the platform giving a speech, after which he invited all three of his grandsons to the stage as well.
Many looked on with desire at the top most eligible men in the country when a light murmur began to resound among the guests.
Usually when a new guest arrived, many would gaze in the direction and then looked away, however this new arrival seemed to attract the guests attention even more.
The doors opened to a young woman in a light red gown, the off shoulder attire showed off a nice set of collarbones and milky white skin.
The woman looked effortlessly regal in a way that made people look twice, a fresh clean beautiful face made many wonder what celebrity had suddenly arrived.
The dress shone with intricately embroidered crystals and pearls sparkling like dew drops.
Each step she took was scrutinized yet only one word came to mind no matter how much one looked.
Gorgeous!
Many began to speculate who she was, instantly deciding she must be a celebrity.
Distracted, no one noticed the excited look that showed on Donald Sterling’s face as he instantly came to this woman.
"You actually came!" He exclaimed in pleasant surprise.
Seeing him talk to her made many wonder what he was saying. Though they felt no surprise at the fact that he approached her, this woman’s arrival made many present in the room feel like ducklings gazing at a swan.
"She must be an heiress from a great family to be conversing with a Sterling so effortlessly." A light conversation began between two aristocratic women, gazing at the beauty that just arrived.
"But what remarkable family has kept such a beautiful daughter hidden? My son loves the beauties, I’m sure he would have been buzzing all over her if he knew her."
"Whoever she is, there is no doubt she caught Donald Sterling’s eyes. I think one of the Sterling sons will soon be off the market, though I never expected it to be the youngest."
Anne had no idea that her identity had become the sudden talk of interest in the ballroom, nor did she realize that her looks had captivated so many eyes. She’d been undoubtedly shocked seeing herself in the mirror after she was dressed. No doubt such a beautiful gown made her feel like a princess and it made her think that perhaps going to this event might b quite fun.
For one night, she could pretend to be Cinderella attending a royal ball.
Smilingly, she replied to Donald.
"I had no choice but to come."
Donald had thought the party would be quite boring and nothing would interest him, but he has to be there so he came despite not wanting to, however seeing Anne had instantly lightened up his mood, he was suddenly looking forward to the rest of the evening.
"Well, now that you’re here..." Donald extended a hand to her expectantly.
Since she’d decided to just have fun, Anne saw nothing wrong in agreeing to stand next to Donald tonight.
Just when she was about to place her hand in his someone else suddenly showed up.
"I believe miss Thompson is supposed to be my date tonight." A cool voice was carried over.
Gasps of incredulity could be heard among the guests as the paths were cleared for Gabriel Sterling.
The eldest Sterling son whose looks and adventurous lifestyle certified him as the ultimate heartbreaker walked over.
Donald was visibly displeased at his eldest brother’s interruption and many people began to sense an unspoken tension between the two brothers who’d suddenly showed up in front of the woman.
Just who could this woman be? She actually managed to catch the eyes of two Sterling sons when many vied to catch even one?
