Bought For A Baby, Kept For A Lifetime-Chapter 100: Invisible
Anne never expected to find herself in this kind of situation, she almost shrunk her head away in embarrassment.
The thought of being among so many people was already Anne pushing herself out of her comfort zone.
Hadn’t she already told this Gabriel that she wouldn’t be his date at the event? Then why was he embarrassing her now by suddenly coming here to her?
Now she felt everyone’s gazes like the sharp prick of a needle all over her.
Donald was in front of her and Gabriel was too, she had wanted to be Cinderella in the sense of wearing a beautiful dress and coming to a grand party but not in the sense of having these two men in front of her.
She suddenly had the urge to enter the party alone without anyone by her side. But with everyone looking at her, could she really be so rude and walk away from these two?
Wouldn’t people crucify her if she were to reject any one of the Sterling sons?
That darned giant tornado, he just had to put her in such an awkward situation, now she wished she had stayed home.
"Miss Hastings, allow me to accompany you inside. A beauty like yourself coming to an event alone wouldn’t look too good." Carlos Devin, a young master of the Devin family trailed behind Clara hastily.
"What are you saying? Miss Hastings would look wonderful even without a man by her side, am I right Miss Hastings?" Simon Bryte countered fawningly.
Dressed in a lavish white mermaid dress that left a short train trailing at her feet, Clara walked elegantly through the halls.
Having men rush after her was something she was used to and the two persistent young masters behind her had been on her tail since she stepped out of the car.
Men adored her, both old and young, wherever she looked she would catch someone’s eyes on her.
A small smile could make a wealthy middle aged man pay for everything she’d purchase at a mall even without her giving him anything in return, a light glance could make anyone want to bow down at her feet.
She was the object of men’s fantasies, unreachable as unreachable could be, made them desire her even more.
She’d been handed everything she wanted on a silver platter without her having to raise a finger, that was the kind of life Clara Hastings enjoyed.
A life of beauty, luxury given by everyone who adored her, except the person that held her heart.
Why should she have the kind of man that fawns over her? Why should she have the kind of man that could be dazzled by beauty?
From the first moment she’d met Andrew, she’d gotten that sweet feeling.
It had been years ago when she was still in her early teens, her family had an ongoing business with the Sterlings at the time making them enviable among many aristocratic families, Clara had been taken to the Sterling estate then with the aim of her making friends with the Sterling sons, however one had caught her eye.
They were all blessed with good looks, but one of them had looked at her coldly and ignored her existence.
In this whole world, she was probably the only person who knew that man best.
She already had everything even at a young age, she didn’t need to work, but she had still gotten a job because she knew he hated women who relied on men.
She’d become the ideal image of a dream woman, and after years her hard work had started paying off, but...
Just then, she arrived at the entrance of the event venue only to be stopped by a scene currently happening there.
She was facing the back of a woman, but even from behind one could tell she would likely be a stunning beauty. Two men were in front of this said woman, both with hands extended to her, a frown drew Clara’s brows together as she instantly knew who the woman was.
Clara’s beautifully made up face instantly darkened.
Earlier she’d received a call from Anne asking for permission to stay home and skip attending the event, Clara had willingly permitted her to not mind coming, why was she suddenly here now?
Clara had envisioned how this event would go for her tonight. Everything always worked the exact way she’d envisioned it, she had that kind of skill, but a scene like this in front of her wasn’t one that had shown in her mind.
Just like Anne had two men in front of her, Clara also had two trailing behind her. However a strange shame suddenly colored Clara’s face red, she suddenly felt like telling the two young masters behind her to scram.
She didn’t want anyone to see them around her if men like the Sterling sons could be seen around Anne, waiting around her with such interest for her in their eyes.
"Young master Bryte, young master Devin, please excuse me." Clara pasted her signature soft smile as she made to excuse herself.
Her entrance was one expected to dazzle but even as she walked through the grand doors, no eyes settled on her. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
She became invisible in a world she used to dominate. She became an extra in the eyes of people who used to praise her brilliant looks.
This kind of feeling...of being ignored, being hidden in plain sight, it made her heart tighten with something dark.
Something that made her pale beautiful angelic face show a trace of an expression that could only be described as demonic, filled with hate, a clear hatred directed at the young woman in a red gown.
So this was how it felt when something that belonged to one was taken away.
The attention of a man she adored.
The attention of the public who adored her.
This feeling was unbearable and awfully bitter.
The young woman in red seemed confused, drowning beneath the gazes of aristocracy.
The moment Clara tore her hateful gaze away from Anne, she caught sight of the man that made her heart flutter.
Andrew.
Her heart suddenly softened, he seemed to have been on a call as he re-entered the venue from the balcony, tucking his phone into his pocket.
Clara’s expression lit up as she approached him.
Amid so many people, the dazzlingly handsome man towering over many was the only one she could see.
She suddenly felt like nothing else mattered, not the attention of the crowd, or their adoration that seemed to be snatched away.
Nothing mattered if this man would look at her.
"Andrew, I..."
A cold air suddenly passed over her skin, his deep masculine scent wafting away from her along with the air around him as he carelessly walked past her.
Not a glance was spared for her, those rigid cold eyes didn’t lower onto her for even a second.
She suddenly felt insignificant, a strange pain gripping her as he passed her.
Clara stopped in her tracks, her face became a deep frown as she whirled around to the direction Andrew had disappeared in but he had a woman next to him now.
Clara went completely stiff, feeling all the blood drain away from her body.
Under everyone’s watchful eyes, the cold man snatched the beautiful girl away giving no room for anyone to protest, he walked up to her, grabbed her hand in his and took her away.
Clara felt her soul drift away from her as her delicate hands tightened beside her with so much force her knuckles turned white.
