Chapter 87: Be My Date

"Mr Sterling, what are you doing?" Anne turned the knob and tried to leave but the man behind her pushed the door further trapping her with him.

"Are you sure you didn’t do this deliberately? I have a feeling you came in here to take a peek."

Anne whirled on him, her brows raised.

Why should she be ashamed if he wasn’t, it wasn’t her body on full display.

She folded her arms, "I came in here to submit the guest list, Clara asked me to do so. Please go through them and if there are any changes I’ll work on them."

An unfathomable glint shone in his eyes and he stepped away from her walking up to his desk, still not making any effort to clothe himself he grabbed the documents she’d dropped, held her note and chuckled after reading through it then opened the documents.

"Some of these names should be erased, we don’t want celebrities who have dirty scandals at our event, it won’t look good on our reputation."

Anne who was certain she’d done the work replied, "I did filter out the celebrities with bad reputation. I went through the list three times after doing research and these are the final names I’ve settled for."

He went through the list again and looked up at her.

"Kathleen Dawson, gorgeous supermodel and quite frankly my ex, that’s enough reason she shouldn’t be invited isn’t it?"

Anne was momentarily taken aback before replying, "With all due respect sir, we can’t filter out guests just because of your personal relationships with them."

"Past relationships." He corrected.

"Still the same." She muttered.

"Selena Rayos, old fling and someone I do not want to bump into. Definitely not at the event." He continued.

Anne was exasperated. "Sir, these are your personal problems and..."

"Who am I?" He suddenly cut her off with this question.

"What?" Anne was confused for a moment.

"Who am I?" He asked again with a haughtiness on his face.

"Mr Gabriel Sterling, General manager of...

He cut her off again, "And where are we right now?" He spread his arms.

"Your office?"

"Not the office, the location itself."

"Sterling Enterprises."

"Good, you said it yourself. Sterling Enterprises, and I am a Sterling. My personal affairs matter and should be taken into account when filtering out the guests."

Anne’s lips parted but no words came out. She was that stunned.

She knew now, perhaps arrogance was just a hereditary trait born into the Sterling sons. It almost made her roll her eyes.

Since she couldn’t argue with him, she kept her mouth shut to listen to his instructions.

So she’d have to filter out guests mainly because he’d once dated them. It was outrageous.

"Crystal Johnson, a very recent ex, I definitely wouldn’t want to be bumping into her anytime soon. Jelena Javier, a wildcat I must say, and hot as hell but she’s out too..." 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦

Anne ended up becoming tired of standing listening to him list so many names.

Had he dated every single female celebrity in the whole continent?

They were all different women of different races, each not being similar in any way to the last.

He eventually cut off more than fifteen celebrities off the list, annoyingly she’d have to redo the list all over again.

When he was done and satisfied, he handed her back the list.

Anne made to leave but suddenly stopped in her tracks when she heard him say,

"Don’t look at me like a monster, there’s no wrong in loving women."

Had she not been able to hide the judgement in her eyes?

Turning to him she plastered a smile on her face.

"Of course, your love extends to every woman in existence, that’s very noble of you sir."

Her words were sarcastic, but he seemed to have taken them literally nodding seriously.

"Exactly, I’m glad you get it, many people don’t."

It took a lot to stop herself from rolling her eyes.

She knew what this person was, he had a kind face that would deceive people but internally, he was a fiend, one after every woman in the world.

Just when Anne was about to leave again he said,

"You know, if you’re so curious to know I’ll tell you..."

She turned to look at him questioningly.

"I’m single, and obviously open to the next phase of life."

Anne didn’t immediately understand his hidden meaning. All she thought was that she hadn’t asked him, nor was she interested to know in any way.

"And what is the next phase?" She found herself asking even though she wondered what it had to do with her and why he as bothering to tell her.

"What else is the next phase for a man like me who has seen the world but settling down? I’m looking for a wife." He said in an announcing manner.

Anne eyed him slightly. Well good for him.

Some men in this world. She shook her head in exasperation. They’d play around, flirt with anything that moves, and after they were done they’d settle down and live their lives like it never happened, if they didn’t end up cheating that is.

Anne didn’t care if he was serious about setting down or not, it had nothing to do with her.

"I’m sure you’ll have no trouble with that." She said then gave a respectful nod indicating she was leaving.

This time despite hearing his voice she didn’t stop, eager to reach the door and just exit but something he said afterwards made her stop in her track instantly before even reaching the door.

"I’ve been thinking, my grandfather likes you a lot, and it won’t hurt to finally do something he wants for once in my life. Why not be the girl that snatches Gabriel Sterling off the market?"

Anne frowned, "What do you mean?" She asked tilting her head slightly.

"I spelled it out clear as day, be my wife."

She almost had a mini heart attack, "What?!"

The rejection already shone in her eyes even before she said a word. However, Gabriel didn’t believe she’d truly not want him.

"Come on, admit it. Somewhere inside, you want me."

She’d rather puke.

"I’m sorry Mr Sterling, I have no interest in marriage right now, and most certainly not with you."

For Gabriel it was killing two birds with one stone.

It was high time he stopped frolicking and actually get on with the task his grandfather set for him. For some reason, his brother Andrew, mysterious as he was, Gabriel had a feeling he wasn’t just sitting around on that assignment like he was. Though he’d bragged to Andrew many times and tried to make it seem like he was ahead, he hadn’t actually done a thing.

Despite his crazy wild lifestyle he’d always know he would settle down someday, that was exactly why he wanted to have all the fun in his life before that time came.

One thing was clear, he didn’t want to be like his father. Yes, he lived the exact same wanton lifestyle but Gabriel did his meticulously, he never once made a mistake of getting a girl pregnant.

If a woman would have his child she would be his wife first, they called him a bad boy but to him, he actually thought of himself as a good boy, he was even thinking about marriage and all, what other bad boy wanted marriage, he was sure he was the first.

And of course he wouldn’t have a celebrity or the wildest party girl on earth, he wanted a housewife. Sweet and soft. He’d already had all his fun, in marriage he would be the most loyal husband. Any woman would feel very lucky to have him.

"Okay, I see how I’ve come off too strong. Why don’t we start with this first? I don’t have a date to the anniversary party, so you can go with me."

Anne scrunched up her face.

Why did he say it like he was doing her a favor?

Seriously, what was it with these Sterling sons?

"Thanks for the offer sir, I’ll do perfectly fine going on my own." Saying that, she hurried away. She didn’t even waste a second for him to have the chance to say something else to her.

Gabriel however saw a challenge.

He’d once won a bet with his friends that he would be able to melt the coldest girl at the club one night, and regardless of how cold and harsh the girl was to him that night, he’d scored her before the night was over.

This shouldn’t be too hard.

"Oh you will be my date to that party." He muttered to himself confidently.
