Bought For A Baby, Kept For A Lifetime-Chapter 64: All Just A Dream
Her gaze met with deep dark eyes on a face hidden behind a mask.
Anne stared at the man’s concealed face for a few seconds before lowering her gaze.
Turns out, he wore another mask. To think she’d been excited to see his face.
She couldn’t recall much of what happened last night other than her having a drink.
Did something happen between them last night?
Anne didn’t feel anything special after waking up apart from the headache; it further confirmed that nothing had indeed happened between them.
She let out a sigh of relief. 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖
For some reason, she wanted the task of her getting pregnant to be postponed if possible. Perhaps she just wanted to avoid it for as long as she could.
The man had stopped when he saw her, but after a while, he resumed walking again.
"Good morning." Anne stopped him with a greeting.
Last night he’d been quite kind to her. The least she could do was be courteous to him.
Good morning?
Andrew thought with a scoff.
What could possibly be good about the morning when last night for him had been nothing but pure torture?
Regardless, he glanced sideways at the bright-eyed girl who gazed up at him with a light in her eyes.
There was no wariness, no fear in her gaze, just a quiet innocence and expectation of him answering her greeting.
Despite himself, Andrew found himself giving her a reply.
"Morning."
That single-word reply made a sweet smile spring onto her face.
She thought he would ignore her, but he actually replied.
Encouraged by his reply, she continued to ask,
"Did you sleep well?"
He scoffed internally once more.
Sleep well?
He almost did. Almost...
He visually recalled himself lying next to the quiet woman after about half an hour of standing outside in the cold.
Sleep began to beckon to him, and he found himself drifting away into its clutches. Who would have thought...
Thud!
The innocent sleeping beauty next to him actually tossed onto him so unexpectedly her knee had landed on his stomach. He’d almost thrown up whatever little meal he had for dinner.
But of course, that wasn’t all he’d had to endure for the night. Thinking about what happened after was actually giving him a headache right now.
And here she was asking if he’d slept well.
Could she have forgotten everything she did last night?
He gritted his teeth imperceptibly.
He was tortured, yet the perpetrator was gleaming with innocent eyes without recalling any of the things she’d done the night before.
Ridiculous!
Despite his thoughts, he couldn’t bring himself to turn away from the bright childlike eyes staring up at him in anticipation.
Something made him bite down his temper whenever he wanted to spit out a sarcastic retort. That something could probably be the guilt he refused to admit to himself...
The guilt of wrongly accusing an innocent young woman all along.
Hence, despite his annoyance, he replied.
"Quite well. You?"
She beamed even more.
He not only replied but had asked about hers as well?
Andrew found that he struggled to tear his gaze from that smile for a while, because that harmless-looking smile actually rivalled the sun shining in through the windows.
"I feel really refreshed, so I think I slept really well too." She answered brightly.
Of course she did.
After all the struggle and restlessness yesterday, he could picture when she finally crashed, spreading herself in an unladylike manner on his bed, snoring lightly.
He’d anticipated getting some good amount of sleep last night, but he actually barely got two hours of sleep. On top of that, he caught a cold too.
He couldn’t remember the last time he’d caught a cold.
Sighing inaudibly, he made to leave the room, but her hesitant voice stopped him again.
"Uhm... can I...?" She seemed to think over what she wanted to say.
"What is it?" He urged disinterestedly.
"I want to ask for a favor, if it won’t be too much to ask."
He turned to her fully, his eyes stern. "I seem to remember you owe me one favor. Asking for another one makes it two."
Anne furrowed her brows at his words.
Two favors?
When had she ever asked him for a...
It settled on her as she remembered the last time.
’Can you take off your mask please?’
Ah! That was the first favor.
Tsk, he was actually still keeping that in record?
"Yes, that makes it two favors now." Anne had no choice but to agree.
"Debt," he said.
"What?"
"I told you, I don’t do favors, only debts. Ask."
Anne gulped nervously.
So that meant she would be owing this man two debts now. If he wanted her to repay him... what would he possibly ask of her?
"Can I skip coming here for next week?"
He tilted his head in question, and she hurriedly replied.
"I have something personal going on next week, and I’ll be needing the time."
Next week was Kristen’s surgery. Regardless of the outcome of the surgery, she wanted to take the time for herself and her brother. She would be by his side all through the way.
Anne was glad the man didn’t question her nor remind her that the contract terms were being delayed. Instead, he nodded indifferently, giving her the permission she asked for, and he left the room.
"Thank you!" She called after him, smiling in relief.
This man... the more she got to know him, the more she realized how kind he was.
Left alone in the vast room, Anne looked around for her bag when her gaze landed on some things spread on the floor she hadn’t even noticed when she woke up.
Some books, clothes that evidently looked like they were taken out of the masked person’s closet, and other random things like remotes, towels, and some white stuff that looked like white powder, and even a few of her makeup items which she recognized came from her bag.
"Why are all these on the floor?"
She quickly knelt down to pick them up when she caught sight of her bag shoved somewhere under the bed.
As she went forward and leaned to pull it out, a set of memories suddenly assaulted her mind, making her stiffen.
These memories all returned to her in a hurry that made her gasp and suddenly jump to her feet with a look of horror in her eyes.
"Oh Lord! Oh Lord! Oh Lord! Please, tell me this was all just a dream!"
How could she have done all that?
Embarrassment washed into her like cold water as she began to see everything playing like a movie in her head.
