Bought For A Baby, Kept For A Lifetime-Chapter 195: Is He Married?
The company’s executives were naturally different from the normal employees who put a lot of effort in fishing for gossips.
Their question wasn’t meant to find gossip but out of genuine curiosity as Andrew was undoubtedly the most mysterious person in the company. Apart from his family and general knowledge many knew about him, there was nothing else people knew about him.
But as expected, he didn’t say anything in reply to this question. He merely gave a mysterious smile.
Soon, everyone began to make a move to leave after having discussing for a few minutes.
At this moment, as everyone thought that Andrew was about to leave, he suddenly stopped to everyone’s surprise, turned to the man who’d started the whole conversation about his pregnant wife, and to the man’s surprise, Andrew extended his hand to him.
"Best of luck on your wife’s pregnancy."
The gesture caught the man off guard that he stood stunned for a while before looking down and accepting Andrew’s handshake with an enthusiastic smile, feeling honored that Andrew made such a gesture towards him.
"Thank you very much director Sterling." As the man looked down however, he noticed something.
There was a ring on Andrew’s finger, upon a closer look it was without a doubt a wedding ring.
Andrew left the meeting room afterwards but the man didn’t move from the same position.
"Did anyone else notice the ring on director Sterling’s finger? It looked like a wedding ring."
"A wedding ring? You must have seen wrong. How could director Sterling wear a wedding ring when he isn’t even married?"
"I think I understand something now. He was never interested in anything we talk about before but he suddenly seemed interested today. What if...he already is married." The man deduced, but despite discussing it for a while, many could still not believe it. Hence the topic about Andrew possibly being married was dropped.
.....
Even as the work day was over, Anne still found herself thinking back to what Andrew had said earlier,
’...If I want the whole world to know that you’re my wife, I will very well do so. I signed a damned contract to marry you but that doesn’t change the fact that you’re mine!’
As he had said the words at the time, though she had been stunned, she still walked out of his office, and true to his words, different set of meals had been delivered to her office just a while later. It was too much for her alone that she had to share with the other employees of her team.
It was only a few hours later that she actually saw the news on the forum. Once again it was about her, though her pictures hadn’t been posted and it was just people speculating about a potential possibility of her and Andrew dating.
It seemed to be getting harder and harder to stop her heart from feeling things for him lately, but it was only because of the way he treated her lately.
She was naturally sensitive enough to notice a difference, but what that difference meant was something she was still contemplating and trying to figure out.
Anne glanced down at her phone, there was a text still open on her screen.
[Have an important meeting, will be going home a bit late. The driver will be waiting to take you home.]
It was a text from Andrew received minutes ago.
Since when had he started to inform her of whatever he was doing?
Anne wondered, the text adding to her confusion.
She walked out of the company lost in a daze, entered the car in a daze and even as she walked through the doors of the manor.
When she went up to her room and came back down for dinner but stopped short just before she started to eat. Her gaze drifted towards the seat opposite her own where Andrew usually sat.
She was startled to see him sitting there, a cunning smile on his face as he stared at her. "Forgetting to feed me?" He tilted his head at her questioningly.
Only when she closed her eyes and opened it did she realize he wasn’t actually there and it had only been her imagination.
Was she thinking about him too much to suddenly be seeing him when he wasn’t there?
Taking the thought off her mind, Anne focused on her meal.
Instead of thinking about it so much, she would just ask him.
He would be back anytime anyway, she would just ask him why he was being so different to her lately.
His actions were messing with her mind and the narrative she’d made herself accept.
He is not your husband, it’s just a contract marriage.
You have feelings for him but he has none for you, and that might never change.
Those were narratives she’d begun getting used to, but the way he looked at her lately.
Just recalling the look in his eyes made her heart tremble sporadically.
There seemed to be something in his eyes she couldn’t put a name to, but as a woman, her instincts made that type of gaze elicit sensations from the depths of her heart.
After finishing her dinner, in order to keep herself busy till he returned from work, Anne went out to the garden.
Countless lights illuminated all around, Anne took a short walk through the cobblestone path in garden, trying to keep her thoughts at bay when she heard the sound of flowing water coming from nearby.
Walking in that direction, she found a hose spraying water to the floor.
Who left the water open at this time? Anne wondered looking around but none of the staff were in the garden at this moment.
The water had formed a small puddle on the floor which made Anne begin to look for the switch to turn it off. She looked around the vast garden until she found a switch to turn the water off, but immediately she pushed the switch, a sudden sprinkle that looked like rainfall splurged out of the garden floors instantly drenching her from every direction, in her confusion she let out a scream trying to reach back for the switch that had set off the sudden shower when someone suddenly grabbed her arm out of nowhere...
