Bought For A Baby, Kept For A Lifetime-Chapter 185: Steal A Kiss?
"What do you think you’re doing?" The deep rasp of his voice was a low resonant rumble that came from deep within his chest. The tone gravely like stones turning gently underwater, with a soft breathy rasp that made her stomach flip with a silent thrill.
The alertness in his eyes seemed to have relaxed now and his gaze focused on her face and it seemed the harsh devil she just glimpsed as he woke up had suddenly disappeared when the side of his mouth raised slowly in a smirk and he added,
"Don’t tell me you were trying to steal a kiss." His low and husky morning voice, made her feel like tiny little butterflies were fluttering in her stomach. She’d never heard a man’s morning voice and never knew it could be this sensual.
However, she snapped back to her senses as his remark registered on her and Anne quickly made to pull away but the hand holding the back of her neck held her still.
"Why would I want to kiss you?" She quickly averted her eyes from his, as she uttered defensively. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺
"I’m Andrew Sterling, why wouldn’t you want to kiss me?"
She rolled her eyes, of course such an arrogant statement would come out of his mouth.
"If you asked really nicely, maybe I would have let you kiss me."
She didn’t know why his voice seemed to be making her heart beat faster and feel like something was melting sweetly in her stomach.
Could the mere sound of someone’s voice captivate one so effortlessly?
But of course she wouldn’t let him know the effect he was having on her.
His gaze dipped to her lips and she almost believed that she saw a deep hunger in those black orbs.
Her heart skipped several beats and she quickly pulled away from his hold around her neck coughing softly to not make it too evident how effectively he was pulling her in without even doing anything.
He smiled quietly to himself, a light of amusement dancing in his eyes.
"By the way, I remember you saying you were leaving immediately I fell asleep, why are you in my bed right now?"
Anne’s eyes widened as he mentioned that.
He was asking her?
She had absolutely no idea how she ended up sleeping next to him either.
"I..." She turned to look at him and he raised an urging brow waiting for her to speak.
"I must have fallen asleep and maybe...rolled over." She felt embarrassed even as she said it.
Her sleeping habits could be weird sometimes.
"Wrong." He suddenly said.
"Huh?"
"What actually happened was, you waited for me to sleep, you were dying to be close to me, so you snuck into my bed."
"I didn’t!" She quickly defended herself.
Was she dying to be next to him?
Maybe, some part of her deep inside but she wouldn’t just admit to it, and certainly not when it would fuel his gigantic ego.
"Mr Sterling, I am aware that your arrogance is incredibly high, but you can’t use your narcissist thoughts to accuse someone of sneaking into bed with you or wanting to be close to you or I might start thinking you’re harboring weird delusions in your mind." She said composedly. He wouldn’t win in a word battle with her.
"Delusions? Yet here you are still in my bed."
"And here you are still holding my hand, I could accuse you of the same thing." Anne blurted that out, but she wasn’t consciously aware of what she’d said until she’d finished saying the words, then she slowly looked down at her hand which was indeed in his hold.
He also glanced at her hand, seemingly realizing he’d been holding onto her for a while.
In a normal case he would instantly release her hand, but Anne noticed that despite realizing it, he didn’t let go.
She had concluded earlier that he hadn’t meant to hold her, he must have done it in his sleep, but why wasn’t he letting go now?
She quickly snatched her hand back and when she was free, she jumped off the bed.
"I didn’t deliberately sneak into bed with you, I only happened to fall asleep, don’t get any ideas." She said this a little flustered before she quickly fled the room.
He watched her small back as she ran away as if something were chasing her, his mouth quirked upwards in a beguiling smile.
Perhaps it was unheard of for someone to thoroughly enjoy their own loss, here he was a man who had held on unwaveringly to his heart for years, he suddenly found himself having lost his heart to this one woman and yet he was enjoying every moment of it.
A while later, Andrew came out of his bedroom looking for Anne but a maid told him she’d just left for work a while ago.
He suddenly felt a well of disappointment filling his chest. Though it wasn’t a pleasant feeling, as long as it was because of her he didn’t hate it, so he decided to see her at work instead.
He was not one to miss work without an important cause. In fact, the injury alone wouldn’t have stopped him from going in. However, before he could make that decision, Shawn arrived and strictly ordered him to stay home until his wound healed. As a result, he was housebound for the day, though he still worked from his home office.
He only stopped working for the day when he heard a car driving into the manor that evening, he left the table in his home office heading downstairs.
An hour ago, he’d sent the driver to go to the Sterling Enterprises and wait to pick her up when she was leaving work for the day, the sound of a car just coming in meant she was back.
His long steady steps seemed to have a trace of anticipation in them as he walked.
The maids who saw him passing by didn’t notice anything different about him, his face was still indifferent, and he barely nodded to their greeting, but they couldn’t help but turn and look at him as he passed them by.
Why did it seem like the master had some sort of eagerness to his aura today? There was no repelling coldness around him today, just a strictness that didn’t feel too suffocating.
The curiosity of the cause of the change in him led most of the maids to stop and watch where he was going or if anyone special had arrived at the manor.
Two people walked through the doors of the manor and when Andrew saw who they were, his steps came to an abrupt halt.
Every air of anticipation seemed to flush out of him in an instant.
Slowly, his eyes turned hard, the rigidness they seemed to have lost suddenly returned and the air in the whole manor changed.
