Chapter 181: Angry?

"What the hell...?" His voice came out a growl that revealed the utter disbelief he felt.

Anne felt her palm sting after the impact with his face. When she heard his voice, only then did she come back to her senses.

What had she just done?

Had she really slapped him?

Shit, what was she thinking?

She was never one to have a temper or even let it control her. The truth was when he’d ordered her to get out just a while ago, she had felt more furious than hurt.

The hurt had been there, but it had been a lot less compared to how angry she felt.

And maybe it was just a moment of impulse on her part that really made her want to take out her anger.

So he told her to leave, but why should she listen to him?

That had been the reason that halted her steps, making her turn around, but when she came back to the bedroom she had been so infuriated that whatever devil on her left shoulder had led her to slap the man, she regretted listening to it now.

But then again, what else was she supposed to do to a total jerk like this man? One moment she read through words on a paper planner that made her feel like there indeed was a soft spot in his heart, that made her own heart jolt with a quiet desire, but then the next moment he was back home bleeding making her think he was on the verge of death, he obviously had no idea how frightened she’d felt at the time, but right after that she found him his cold self again and once again, like he used to do long ago, he ordered her to get out.

But only after slapping him, she had to admit that she felt absolutely better. There was no longer hurt or anger, but now seeing the eyes boring down at her, dark like the deepest abyss one could ever look into, she swallowed nervously but still maintained her composure.

Something inside her wanted to quickly start apologizing for even daring to hit the high and mighty Andrew Sterling, but then again something else inside her didn’t want to apologize.

Clearing her throat to hide the awkwardness of what she’d just done, Anne put up an angry expression.

"It’s okay if you order people to get out whenever you wish, but it’s not okay if they strike back? What the hell made you believe you were the boss of me and that I have to listen to your orders?"

"What?" His brows came together in a question that felt somewhat threatening she almost cowered but forced herself to hold her ground.

Even if she had no relationship with him, even if she were only his wife in name, it was perfectly normal to want to know how he was doing after seeing him injured like that. The blood she’d seen on him had momentarily crippled her, and that was even more reason for her to want to make sure he was fine.

Would she even be able to have peace if she didn’t make certain of that? Would she be able to sleep well at night?

"I’m telling you that I refuse to bend to your will. You don’t want me around but I want to be here to see that you’re truly fine, not because you’re any special but because you’re a human being. I would want to be there even if you were a homeless person on the streets..."

His brows shot up at her remark.

"...so I refuse to get out just because you told me to." She squared her shoulders looking up challengingly into his face, though the dark eyes staring down at her made her want to cower and run off somewhere to hide, she stood her ground.

But she had to admit, she was extremely surprised to find the man who she’d almost thought was on the brink of death actually standing here looking like he didn’t just sustain a painful injury. Even more surprising was how he threateningly took two steps towards her, slow and measured as he asked,

"Did you just hit me, to prove your point?"

She also took two steps back as she realized he was advancing towards her.

"Y-yes." She stuttered and he began to come closer to her again making her subconsciously take a few steps backwards, and even more steps backwards but it seemed like he was determined to close the distance between them because he didn’t stop approaching her until her back hit the nearest wall.

"What do you want to do? Don’t tell me you’ll hit me back." She said with feigned confidence but internally she wanted to break into a run if his broad frame wasn’t covering hers against the wall.

"No one has ever raised their hand to hit me like that, you’re the first...and for that I’ll definitely teach you a lesson." His voice lowly grated her ears laced with a deep husk.

Anne swallowed nervously but still didn’t show it on her face.

When he suddenly moved closer her eyes closed out of instinct, in that moment she thought she would feel pain but what she felt next was the back of her head being grabbed and her mouth suddenly colliding with something soft and hot.

Her eyes instantly snapped open, widened as she realized she was being kissed!

Butler Jones who was standing at the door still hadn’t recovered from his surprise, but another surprising situation enfolded right before his eyes like a sudden twist to the earlier situation.

Wait, his master wasn’t angry?

No one had ever hit the master like that before, that was for certain, but to actually think he wasn’t mad after it happened was too surprising to digest.

The whole situation had taken a complete turn. One second butler Jones could only see hopelessness, the next, his master who had not a single romantic bone in his body had kissed her so shamelessly even while knowing there were other people on the room.

Shawn watched the whole scenario enfold at first with shock, then slight amusement at how his friend’s wife as actually quite daring, then smiled to himself and cleared his throat before immediately excusing himself to leave the room making sure the butler who still looked shocked came with him.

Right now, his friend needed a little privacy.
