Chapter 180: You Lose Andrew

"You love her, and that’s all that matters. Whatever darkness your mind tries to conjure up to keep you from freeing your heart, overcome it, or risk losing her forever." As Shawn spoke, he wrapped a bandage around Andrew’s shoulders.

"Thankfully, you didn’t lose enough blood to require a transfusion, some supplements and healthy meals should do it." Shawn said in conclusion before sighing and finally asking the burning question,

"How did you get shot Andrew?"

It was true that they both had their secrets hidden from each other, but the line of secrets was slowly being bridged between them.

Shawn had thought they were friends before, the kind of friends that despite remaining in each other’s lives never crossed boundaries, never sought too much from the other, never pried into the other’s privacy, but regardless knew so much about each other, despite Andrew’s cold demeanor, Shawn knew that the latter valued him deeply. However, there was a part of Andrew’s life he had never known anything about.

A part that involved danger, though Shawn had never pried by asking, always maintaining a distance even if Andrew would most times return with injuries.

They had seen each other just the other night when Andrew had gotten drunk at the rooftop of the Elysian, in that state Andrew had said that he didn’t want to go home, hence Shawn had taken him back to his penthouse, letting Andrew sleep in his guest bedroom. However deep into the night, Shawn heard Andrew’s phone ringing from the guest bedroom Andrew slept in, at that time Shawn had gone to check if everything was fine but Andrew had left by the time he’d reached the guest room.

Perhaps something had happened, and he’d left. Andrew should have already been sober by then, so Shawn didn’t bother worrying about his whereabouts, but it turned out that call that had pulled him away involved this secretly dangerous part of his life.

One thing Shawn found strange was the strangely complex looking bullet he’d find from the several times Andrew had been shot.

What kind of secret enemy did Andrew have?

There were so many questions Shawn wanted to ask, but he’d only asked one, but as expected, his question was left unanswered.

"We both know this isn’t the first time I’m taking a bullet out of you, heck it’s not even the third. You’re not immortal Andrew, you’ve got your sleep disorders that really need to be improved, your body isn’t getting enough rest to be in it’s absolute peak state and on top of that these physical injuries on you will worsen things."

While Shawn was still speaking, Andrew got off the bed heading for the walk in closet where he grabbed a fresh t-shirt and slowly shrugged it on despite the searing pain in his shoulder from the newly bandaged wound.

"I hear you, now can you stop nagging?" Andrew’s voice was dry as he uttered these words blandly.

Shawn opened his mouth to speak again but he didn’t even have the chance to do so when the door was suddenly slammed open causing both men to turn in that direction.

Shawn felt extremely surprised to see Anne standing there.

After the way Andrew had spoken a while ago, he didn’t think she would want to come anywhere near Andrew again.

As she entered the room, determination marked her face. Her brown eyes locked intensely on Andrew, burning with a fiery anger that only grew stronger as she drew closer. By the time she stood before him, Shawn watched in astonishment, curious about her next move, yet utterly unprepared for what she did next.

Butler Jones had been following Anne from the moment she walked out of the bedroom when the master had told her to leave.

Actually at the time, butler Jones could only sigh sadly.

It really was true; a man broken from the inside would sabotage affection when it came to him.

It was hopeless!

It was absolutely hopeless thinking the master could allow love into his life.

Get out? Who would say that to a beautiful and evidently concerned looking wife? His master truly was a hopeless case.

For the first time since the butler had started this little quest of his, all he saw was bleakness.

That was it, the master had killed any chance he had left with her.

No woman would want to stay by the side of someone so closed off. It was as if he completely locked himself in, never opening or giving anyone a chance, and despite efforts to push them both together, butler Jones feared master Andrew’s heart had indeed turned to stone.

Butler Jones had planned to inform the old master later that Andrew had ruined everything, making it nearly impossible for Anne to ever care for him again. But just then, Anne, who had been walking ahead, came to an abrupt halt.

She had been walking aimlessly after leaving the bedroom, looking ahead in a daze and butler Jones was only following to think of something comforting to say to her.

He had noticed how deeply worried she’d been, but then being dismissed so abruptly must have left her disheartened. That was why, when she suddenly halted, Butler Jones stared at her in shock as she spun around and retraced her steps.

Was she going back to the master’s room?

Butler Jones quickly followed her closely and indeed, she came back to the master bedroom, but what she did made butler Jones’ mouth fall open.

She walked hastily, decisively striding towards the master and when she stopped in front of him, she raised her hand without warning swiping it across his face.

Pa!

A sharp slap sounded. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺

It felt like all the air in the room had suddenly been sucked away for that single moment.

The butler’s eyes looked like they were about to pop out due to his shocked expression.

She slapped him!

She’d actually slapped the master.

Shawn was also absolutely taken aback, he couldn’t even blink.

When she’d returned, Andrew had felt his heart tug seeing her standing there at the entrance of his room.

The regret of the words he’d said earlier began to claw at his chest.

He’d harshly told her to get out, but...it was the only way he knew to protect someone, by pushing them away, and he’d wanted to protect her from seeing his blood which had evidently frightened her.

Shawn had been right, there were things he needed to unlearn, in the past he would never have thought of changing himself for anyone at all, but as she walked towards him right now, everything inside him wanted to do absolutely anything if it would enable him to be able to make her happy.

He...wanted to make her happy.

He realized and the feeling swelled in his chest.

’You lose Andrew.’ He told himself.

He’d challenged himself not to fall despite the feelings she elicited in him, and though he tried several times not to fall, he knew he lost.

And if this was the first loss in his life, it was a kind of loss he would willingly accept.

Because it was her.

He’d wanted to say something as she stood in front of him, but the words remained suspended as nothing but a thought when her hand came up and landed right on his cheek with force.

She hit him!

His eyes went wide at first, in utter disbelief before he slowly turned his face which had swung sideways from the impact of her slap to settle on her face again, his dark eyes filled with furious questions.

Butler Jones only had one thought: It’s over!
