Bought For A Baby, Kept For A Lifetime-Chapter 182: Can’t Resist?
Her lips tasted like the very cure he needed. There was a shimmering sheen of sweat on his temple, the pain in his shoulder was still evidently sharp, but the moment his lips touched hers, it felt like all of his discomfort had slowly evaporated.
It somehow felt like he’d never kissed her before, because this time his mind wasn’t trying to shove up resistance to hide his feelings behind a veil, this time he felt it in his chest, all the deliciously fluttering sensations that only she could awaken in his body.
He slightly nipped her lower lip, subtly tasting the petal softness of her mouth and her breath hitched.
He could feel how stiff she’d gone and his mouth which had trapped her lips in a kiss slowly released, retracting lingeringly.
Her eyes were wide and shocked, but that light pink color he liked seeing on her had trailed up her cheeks it made him chuckle slightly before pulling away.
Her eyes followed him as he walked to the bedside table picking his phone with his uninjured left hand.
Anne could hardly move, remaining stuck in the same spot without even blinking.
The warmth lingered against her lips, and something seemed to have melted in her lower belly, fluttering with a thousand different sensation at once.
She could only watch the man’s broad back as he walked away only after kissing her.
The kiss had only lasted a moment, but the dominantly certain way his mouth had tasted her own made something warm swell in her chest.
"Tell all the maids by the door to leave." She heard him say over to the phone, his gaze looking over to settle on her over his shoulder, "Annelise has so kindly volunteered to stay and cater to my needs for the rest of the night."
Anne immediately came back to her senses hearing him say that over the phone.
"When did I...?"
"You’d still feel concerned if I were a homeless person, a stranger to you. You said that didn’t you?"
Anne quietly recalled she’d indeed said that just a while ago.
"First of all, keep in mind that I’m no homeless person, I’m a man with billions to his name."
Anne almost rolled her eyes.
She must have been mad to have been so worried, a half dying person wouldn’t wantonly kiss people nor utter such arrogant words.
He was perfectly fine!
"And secondly if you so adamantly offer your services, I won’t refuse." For some reason, she felt like the light smirk suddenly hanging on his lips meant something she couldn’t decipher.
"Well... clearly you don’t need anything right now, you were just treated and you look perfectly fine so you don’t need my help or my concern."
Anne would much rather escape from the room.
This man seemed to suffer from crazy mood swings.
And why the hell did he suddenly kiss her like that?
She immediately began to head for the door after saying that but halted when he said,
"I’m hungry."
As Anne stopped, she almost thought she’d heard wrong so she slowly turned to him.
"What?"
She found him sitting in the bed, but his posture looked as straight and sure of himself as that of a monarch.
"I’m hungry." He replied steadily.
One would think someone who said these words would look pitiful, he’d been bleeding for crying out loud, if she hadn’t seen it herself she would have started to believe that he was actually faking it earlier.
Not a single part of him looked sick now, it was astounding.
Anne’s expression showed a mix of surprise and bewilderment. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖
"Oh? But I thought someone as high and mighty as you didn’t know what being hungry felt like." She uttered sarcastically.
"Well, big surprise, I do know the feeling." He shot back sarcastically.
Anne was suddenly rendered speechless. Did he actually reply her sarcastic words with sarcasm of his own?
Since when did this arrogant man become so shameless?
Without staying to exchange more words with him, Anne turned around and left the room.
The whole manor had gone silent, all the staff having been so magnanimously sent away by Andrew had quickly retired to their rooms. Who would willingly stay awake at this time of the night when their superior had permitted them to go?
Anne sighed resignedly and headed to her room to clean up, after which she went down to the kitchen and made a quick light meal.
In all honesty she didn’t hate cooking something even this late at night, since coming to the manor she hadn’t touched a cooking utensil even once because there were maids everywhere who wouldn’t let her even step into the kitchen without swarming her with the eagerness to provide everything she would need.
In a short while, she held a tray as she went back upstairs into the master bedroom.
Andrew was sitting on the bed, his head leaned back, his eyes closed, she stopped in her tracks after entering the room, silencing her steps by walking slowly towards the bed.
Had he fallen asleep?
His chiseled face entrapped one’s gaze, she stared for a moment longer than she intended to, she noticed the light sweat that coated his furrowed brows, just from looking at him, one would be able to tell he was holding in pain. Anne suddenly realized that he hadn’t just snapped out of his pain, he was keeping it suppressed.
A pang of sympathy suddenly tightened her chest.
Why did he have to put up a brave front if he was in pain?
’...He never had anyone look after him before, never had anyone care for him before. You’re his wife now, please do everything to fill the empty spot in his life.’
Anne suddenly recalled the conversation she’d had with Elder Sterling the other day at the estate.
That day, all she saw in the older man was a fierce desire to make his grandson’s life complete. Anne could understand elder Sterling’s request but at that time...she hadn’t been able to give her word of promise to the older man.
Was that why Andrew was like this?
If that was true...his arrogance wasn’t a flaw, it was his defense.
Anne’s gaze softened at this moment.
She fully understood why whenever she looked at him in the past she would remember a wounded lion, licking his wounds in secret but fiercely dominating preys without showing weakness.
"Are you going to keep standing there without saying anything?"
Anne almost dropped the tray when he suddenly spoke if she hadn’t quickly steadied herself and her grip on the tray, perhaps the soup would have been dumped on his face.
He slowly opened his eyes, his gaze settled on her.
"You walked into this room two minutes ago, am I so enchanting that you can’t resist staring at me for so long?"
