Chapter 173: Dismissed

As Anne was leaving for work that morning, she felt tempted to ask the butler if Andrew had already left, but she kept that curiosity to herself and left the manor.

Merely about half an hour after she arrived at work, someone informed her that Clara was calling for her.

After submitting a work file through email, Anne got up and entered Clara’s office.

The latter raised her head and upon seeing Anne come in, she suddenly reached into her bag and pulled out a small expensive looking bottle of perfume then deliberately began to spray it excessively.

Anne stopped in her tracks as she scent wafted over to her. The perfume was sharp and powerful in a way that made Anne uncomfortable breathing it in, it always made her feel nauseous.

Anne now realized spraying the perfume had been a deliberate act by Clara. She knew Anne didn’t like the smell, but waited to deliberately spray it once she walked in.

"You called for me?" Anne maintained her composure not breathing in the pungent scent too much.

There was a clear smirk on Clara’s lips.

"Yes, I just received a notification from HR, they will be sending someone in to inspect our department, now with one of my employees skipping work for a day so randomly, won’t they see me as someone who doesn’t know how to do her job?" As she said this, Clara calmly opened her drawer and brought out a white envelope which she dropped on her table pushing it towards Anne.

"This is for you. Now, know that this decision is from the purest parts of my heart, I just want to be seen as a competent manager."

As Clara said the last words, she gritted her teeth remembering how a company executive had once called her incompetent because of Anne.

Anne looked suspicious as she picked up the letter and slowly opened it, 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞

Dismissal Letter!

The heading was written boldly as the rest of the letter went on to state how lazy and inefficient Anne was at work, to the extent of skipping work for a day without prior notification.

"I applied for prior leave two days ago, I sent you an email that I needed the day off and you replied saying I could."

Anne still had the copy of the mail she’d sent to Clara asking her for a leave for a day. Though she and Clara would never be in good terms again, she still had to adopt an employer and employee relationship.

"Oh, but that was a mistake, Kendra asked me for a day off way before you did, I thought she was the one who sent the email so I agreed. You should have come to ask me in person but you didn’t, it shows how absolutely lacking you are in professionalism. There’s a lot of pressure on me right now and I only want the absolute best employees on my team, so you’re dismissed!"

It was very obvious that Clara was taking pleasure in doing this, the delight shone in her eyes.

Anne knew as the manager, Clara only needed one excuse to fire an employee and fully justify her reason, evidently she’d found the perfect excuse to use against Anne. She was firing her now by claiming she lacked professional ethics.

"Please go ahead and clear out your table, I’ll be hiring someone else to take your place in this department."

Anne was completely silent, she glanced down at the dismissal letter she held in her hand.

"What? You don’t want to be fired? You don’t want to leave this company? Well there’s nothing you can do, you have absolutely no choice but to leave and do you know why?"

Anne raised her gaze to meet Clara’s at this point as the latter stood up and strolled around the table to stand in front of her with a condescending look on her face,

"Someone like you can only ever look up to me, but you can never be my equal. I was meant to stand above you and if you become an eye sore, I have the power to kick you off. This is me tossing you away like used cloth."

Clara had not been able to forget how that female executive had spoken to her the other day.

She had never been looked down upon by anyone ever before, and it stuck with her like a bitter memory that constant refused to leave her mind.

Her hatred for Anne had soared at that time and Clara knew she would only truly be at peace once Anne was kicked out of this company.

She’d been waiting for the best chance to dismiss Anne from work, and when Anne had sent her that email that she wouldn’t be able to come to work yesterday, Clara had quickly grabbed on to that chance.

HR had unhesitatingly stamped the dismissal letter when they saw that Clara had a justifiable reason to fire one of her employees.

"So does this satisfy you, does it make you feel stronger?" Anne queried softly with a calm voice that made Clara look somewhat confused.

She thought Anne would cry and plead to keep the job after all due to Anne’s background, she didn’t have anything to fall back on except for this job. But Anne’s calmness surprised her.

"Fine, I’ll leave, only because I don’t want to be anywhere around you either but do keep this in mind Clara. This is not your victory, I still have a score to settle with you and you’ll certainly pay for making me the target of your twisted games."

Clara could only frown as she couldn’t understand where Anne found her confidence. The person she’d been hoping to break didn’t cower in front of her. It was absolutely frustrating.

The strongest people were the ones who quietly bidded their time, quietly built their strength, the moment they would strike at their opponent, it would be a single strike to ruin. Those kind of people had the ability to work towards more power just to defeat their opponent, those kind of people would become frightening in their peak state.

Clara knew this, but she never thought Anne would be able to gain enough power to match up to hers. Not in this lifetime!

Anne turned around decisively and exited Clara’s office, but the moment she stepped out, a man was already waiting by her desk.

Upon seeing her the man beamed, "Miss Thompson, I have a letter for you from HR authorized by chairman Sterling."

The man was the company’s messenger that delivered messages across the company. He held out a white envelope to her which evidently contained a letter.

Employees of the department gathered around curiously seeing the messenger give Anne a special letter.

"What is it?" Anne asked curiously and the man with a smile announced,

"It is your appointment letter to your new position ma’am. PR department team A manager just quit his job, you have been appointed to take his place."

This announcement caused everyone to suck in a cold breath.

Clara who was in her office seemingly heard this, and immediately she stood up from her seat with a speed that caused the chair to be tossed backwards making a loud noise fill the air.
