Chapter 164: Wasn’t Trying To Kill Her

"Master, you’re leaving already? What about your wife?" A young butler named Benedict noticed Andrew heading into his car and innocently asked, once that question slipped out of his mouth, he noticed the master’s expression suddenly darkened. He immediately realized he had spoken what he wasn’t supposed to.

"I mean to say...the mistress is still inside, maybe she doesn’t know you’re already leaving, should I go call her?" He rephrased his words patronizingly.

"No need." Andrew blurted decisively before sitting inside the car and driving away.

The butler could only look on with confusion.

He came with his wife, but he was leaving without her? How strange.

.....

The car sped along the clear smooth roads outside the estate. As if it wasn’t already racing enough, the man behind the wheels stepped on the accelerator making the car go even faster.

Deep inside, a small feeling of regret had creeped through his veins gripping his chest in a vice like grip. So tightly it hurt, so tight it annoyed him.

For the longest time he’d always known that showing other people how one truly feels is the greatest mistake of all, others will use one’s feelings to bring one down, those same feelings would be the weaknesses enemies would craft into a weapon to completely destroy anyone who let themselves get weak.

It was an unchangeable fact.

Reality for him was how he’d been fully convinced that he’d unlearned how to feel.

His only goal became to scale higher and higher becoming powerful and even more powerful to eliminate anything that would stand in his way and pose to be a weakness.

But his unshakeable reality began to crumble when this woman walked into his life.

She had come without any warning, when he met her he never once thought she would be the one to break all his highly built up walls, shatter his beliefs and make his heart learn to beat to the rhythm of her smile, learn to beat to the rhythm of pain.

Everything she’d said to him earlier... though he absolutely hated to admit it, maybe the reason he’d reacted with that sudden rage was because he knew inside she’d been right.

He had been in pain.

His father’s return had yanked open old wounds whose pain he could only conceal with anger.

How could he not hide his ache when it was something he’d numbed himself from no longer feeling for years?

Annelise Thompson seemed to be the very reason his heart learned to hurt again, the very reason he became weak again, but in order not to be destroyed, he had to keep that weakness hidden and never shown to anyone, not even to her.

But the image of her tear filled eyes appeared in his head and despite the fact that he was driving, he closed his eyes for a second as that agonizingly sharp ache of regret clutched his chest.

He also couldn’t remember exactly what he’d said, those words had come out of his mouth in the heat of the moment, his rage acting as his shield as he said things to push her away so he wouldn’t see that sympathy in her eyes again, so he wouldn’t see her look at him like someone who deserved her pity, he’d said those words and hurt her.

The ache rose again and his long fingers clenched the steering wheel.

All the anger he felt in this moment was directed at no one else but himself and he’d had to leave the estate or his mind would try to ease this ache he was feeling and he would find her and take back everything he’d said to her.

His mind was holding a battle, hence he drove towards a location he didn’t go to frequently.

The building was located at the farthest parts of Verizon, in this part of the city there weren’t any residential areas. There were only trees and endless stretch of forests.

The building was the shape of a dome, made entirely of glass. One wouldn’t expect to see such a futuristic building in such parts of the city.

Strong looking men built like wrestlers could be seen guarding the entrance of the building. The air around these men smelled like danger and death.

When the car drove in, the men seemed alert until they noticed who stepped down from the vehicle.

Their deadly aura dissipated turing into a deferential air as they hurried forward in a uniform manner standing composedly in a line with their heads lowered.

"Master."

He stood before them like a monarch before his subjects, eyes indifferent yet a deeply cold ruthlessness hidden beneath.

In this place, he wasn’t the well known business man Andrew Sterling, he was the figure of most people’s nightmares.

"Two of Randolph’s men have been captured master, we’ve just been awaiting your command." One of the men informed.

As Andrew strode forward, the men stepped aside letting him walk forward before they trailed behind him in a collected manner.

The inner walls of the building looked like a house of mirrors, the entire walls made of glass that showed a reflection of anyone passing by.

A man in a white doctor’s lab coat suddenly showed up, coming out of one of the glass doors that only showed one’s reflection from outside but never whatever was behind the doors.

The young man had silver hair and he had something that looked like a stethoscope around his neck, one would think he was a doctor if it weren’t for the tattoos peeking out from his collar and the strangely twisted smile on his face. Other than that, his white lab coat had smears of blood stains here and there. Behind him there was a large palm print made of blood as if a bloodied hand had tried to grab him.

"Boss, I didn’t expect to see you here today." Gavin’s eyes were wide and twistedly excited as he sighted Andrew.

"I was going to call you and inform you about something, I’m sure this will please you."

Andrew had come to this building called the base for something else, however seeing Gavin in this state, he frowned subtly at the dense smell of blood wafting into his nose.

Gavin noticed it and his excited expression quickly fell, he brought out both his hands which had been hidden behind him looking down at his blood stained hands like a child who’d buried their hands in mud and suddenly realized they were dirty.

"I didn’t clean up because I didn’t know you were coming Boss." He quickly began to wipe his hands off the white lab coat staining the coat with smears of blood before looking up satisfied,

"Come see Boss." He disappeared behind the glass doors again and one of the guards moved to pull the door open as Andrew walked in. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮

The smell of blood was thick in the air.

A wounded man could be seen hanging by his arms from the incredibly high ceiling in the spacious room whose four wall were made of glass, but every glass on the wall could be pulled out to reveal hidden cabinets where deadly weapons were stored.

"I only played deadly doctor with him for two hours, but he already looks half dead. Tsk, he took the fun out of the game." Gavin grumbled as he watched the half dead man.

Andrew’s expression remained stoic as he appraised the man hanging with a strange air of familiarity as if he’d seen the man somewhere.

"Who is he?"

Gavin pointed towards the left side of the wall.

"He’s that woman’s father." Gavin said,

"She’s being difficult so I had to use someone she cares about to make her confess, you know I don’t enjoy torturing fragile looking ladies so I looked for the root cause of the problem. She’s a spoilt brat, her father lets her harm other people to her satisfaction and that is none of my business but she went for someone related to you, I wanted to personally punish her a bit before presenting her to you, that woman was the very person that sent someone to lock mistress up in a freezer, she’s at your mercy now. Don’t I deserve a reward Boss?"

Andrew’s face looked to the side and the moment Gavin pressed a remote, the glass on the left side of the wall shifted revealing a second room where a woman was currently tied to a chair crying and wailing but her voice was muffled by the glass that concealed all her sounds.

"I’ve given you this task for a long time, you’re only completing it now, what rewards do you expect to get?" His eyes suddenly turned colder, something insidious laced in his tone.

"Whether or not you get a reward depends on if you punish her well enough, ten times more than Annelise felt that evening."

"Of course Boss, that room she’s in is colder than a freezer, she’ll be dead in the next fifteen minutes or so."

Andrew gave Gavin a strict glance and the latter quickly replied.

"I wasn’t planning to kill her, just taking her to the brink of death..." Gavin trailed off as Andrew’s glare continued to harden, he nervously looked away.

When the young woman behind the glass saw another man come in, she thought he was her saving grace.

She called for mercy, yelled and screamed till her throat ached. The cold was unbearable and she’d been here for a long time...it was the same prank she’d pulled at an event once before and now it was being served to her.

Though she’d refused to openly reveal Clara’s name, seeing her father being punished because of her she no longer kept Clara’s involvement in the matter hidden.

"Please... I didn’t try to kill her, it was Clara...she made me do that to the girl at the event. I wasn’t trying to kill her, I really wasn’t..." Her teeth clattered together but she forced herself to say these words to the shadow of the man who just entered this room that felt like a nightmare, only when the man moved away from the shadows did Trish see his face...her whole body went stiff.

It was Andrew Sterling!
