Bought For A Baby, Kept For A Lifetime-Chapter 163: One Sided Love
"Did you actually think, that you’d be happy with my brother...?"
He sneered lightly giving her a sideways glance.
"You never should have married Andrew, you have no idea what you got yourself into."
Anne slowly extricated her elbow from his grip, he hadn’t been holding her with enough force to make her helpless.
"My marriage is my personal life, and my personal life is none of your business."
She began to walk away after saying that but his voice stopped her once more.
"You’re right, it’s none of my business, but take my advice if you have any sense of compassion for yourself. Being with my brother will ruin you. If you think you can handle him then you don’t know who he truly is. You can’t fix my brother, there’s something broken inside him and it’ll push you away, not just that, it’ll break you. He will never love you like a real husband should, he will never be able to make you happy. If you have feelings for him it’ll be a one sided love forever, save yourself and leave him as soon as you can. The sooner you escape from him, the better it’ll be for you."
The smell of his cigarette reached her the moment he blew out the smoke. It had a light fruity scent, but the stench of tobacco within it couldn’t fully be masked.
She slowly turned to face him, seeing the gleeful look in his eyes. Perhaps deep inside he believed he’d scared her away, that his words would frighten her to the core and she’d want nothing but to end whatever relationship tied her to his brother.
Gabriel and Andrew were brothers, it was a kind of relationship that shared love, a kind where they should have a bond with each other.
Andrew Sterling never knew the love of parents, and sadly Anne realized that he never had that of a brother as well.
An older sibling should be protective, an older sibling should replace a parent but here was Andrew’s older brother and the latter had nothing good to say about him.
"You speak of love like someone who knows what it is. If you can stand here telling me this about your own brother, you really don’t know what love is, and tell me...why should I take advice from someone who is totally clueless himself?"
The look of triumph in Gabriel’s eyes quickly dissipated like steam in the air.
"If your brother truly is someone who doesn’t know how to love, then how wonderful would he be when he truly knows what love is? Have you seen how doting he is when it comes to Don? More than you do, he already knows what it means to be an older sibling but look at yourself, he is your younger brother but you have made him your greatest rival. If you know what love is and he doesn’t, then maybe your type of love is something no one should have in their lives."
Anne had witnessed, merely a few times how evidently Andrew was closer to Donald. Even if Andrew was always cold, he still evidently cared about his younger brother, but the same could never be said for Gabriel.
"And do you know what one sided love actually is?"
Gabriel could only frown, not believing she would be spaking up for his brother to him.
Everyone who’d ever met Andrew would only need a short while of knowing who he truly was to start despising him.
Even women who admired him and grew infatuated with Andrew would end up growing resentment when he showed them how much of a cold and heartless man he was.
Why was it different with Anne?
Why was she speaking up for him even after hearing things that would have frightened any other woman into feeling the urge to escape from a marriage with a man like Andrew?
"One sided love is enough for two hearts. If my love is one sided then it doesn’t matter, it’s enough for my heart and his, it’s enough for both of us."
A look of shock descended on Gabriel’s face as he heard that. He stared at Anne as if she were an alien.
Gabriel looked so shocked that he only recovered from that shock when Anne started to walk away again.
But his mouth moved as if to speak and no words came out.
’...Have you seen how doting he is when it comes to Don? More than you do, he already knows what it means to be an older sibling but look at yourself, he is your younger brother but you have made him your greatest rival...’
The words Anne said began to echo in his mind repeatedly and even if he tried to shake it off, he could never forget it.
Anne was wandering around the estate when a maid sighted her and rushed over to her.
"Mistress, please come with me, the second family branch have been looking for you."
Nodding softly, Anne followed the maid after making sure that her eyes didn’t look red from crying a while ago.
She tried not to think about her interaction with Andrew earlier on the rooftop, the more she thought about it, the more it hurt and hearing Gabriel say things like that to her immediately she’d heard words like that from Andrew, it had been quite hard to refute Gabriel but she’d seen through his intentions. He wanted nothing more but to scare her and paint his brother in a bad light.
Anne had defended Andrew to teach Gabriel that he was no better than the things he claimed his brother was.
She didn’t want him to feel like he’d succeeded in scaring her.
Though some of the things he’d said were true.
Andrew had something broken inside him that seemed impossible to fix and she would never entertain any illusions that she could fix him.
Her feelings for Andrew were one thing and reality was another...reality was the fact that Andrew wouldn’t have feelings for her, not the way she had for him, and yet her feelings let her feel his pain all the same.
The maid led her to a parlour where two women were seated opposite each other on elegant looking sofas. Just from mere looking one could tell there was a quiet competition between both women.
"There she is, hurry come sit next to me. You’re basically like my daughter in law now." One of the women wearing a light red attire spoke immediately she saw her.
"Don’t listen to her, come sit next to me." The other woman who was dressed in white countered and Anne suddenly felt at a loss. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂
If both were adamantly asking her to sit with them, which one of them should she listen to?
She would inevitably have to disappoint one of them.
