Chapter 147: You Are Nothing

"Miss Langton, I hope you’re satisfied with the way this issue was handled today?" Before leaving the PR department, David Hales made sure to consult Stella first. It was imperative she witnessed how professional they were.

Stella looked to the left where the company security guards were escorting Brian away. They were going to further investigate his deeds within the company before he would be dealt the final verdict of whether he would lose his job or not.

On the other hand there was Rebecca whose eyes were red rimmed from crying after being ordered to clear away her table and go to administration for her final paycheck.

Regardless of how much she’d been pressed, she still continued to accept that the whole scenario was caused by herself and no one else.

Stella was used to such scenarios, she was surrounded by traitors and people who despised her enough to want to bring her down, but it was her own strong will that led her to never fall despite the stumbling blocks, that strong will brought her here and she became this powerful self made woman she was today.

"As long as that man gets what he deserves. Do remember that the work atmosphere cannot thrive if there are people using their power to manipulate others into getting what they want, especially so for sexual predators. Innocent young women are constantly preyed on because of people like them."

"Rest assured Miss Langton, I’ll be the one on this case, I’ll make sure he gets exactly what he deserves."

Only after hearing that did Stella smile in satisfaction, and David Hales breathed a quiet sigh in relief before he exited the office after informing Clara that there would be a weekly check in with the employees of the department for the rest of the month just to judge her leadership.

Clara continued the whole thing with a soft unbothered smile, Stella watched her calmly, her gaze narrowed slightly.

No one could constantly be this sickly sweet even in the face of criticism. This type of woman truly did rub her the wrong way.

Stella watched Anne follow the hypocritical looking but gorgeous woman into an office and wondered what Anne would want to discuss with her.

If she could give Anne an advice, it would be to tell her to stay away from Clara, a woman like that was extremely dangerous and the extent they could go to get what they want, one could never even be able to imagine it.

Feeling satisfied that she had witnessed the entire scenario unfold satisfactorily, Stella quietly left the department.

She stopped for a few seconds looking back at the office with a mysterious light in her eyes before finally leaving.

At the moment Anne entered Clara’s office, she heard the sound of something shattering.

A broken vase was in pieces on the floor next to Anne’s feet.

As Anne raised her gaze, for the first time she was seeing a look of fury on Clara’s beautiful face. The woman who always carried a quiet softness looked infuriated beyond belief.

"You wanted me out didn’t you? And now that I’m still here you can’t stand it." Anne began softly.

Clara rolled her eyes before going behind her desk to calmly take her seat.

"Seems you are a very sharp thorn stuck in my throat, you won’t go down no matter how much I try to flush you off with water. Your kind of people are not my absolute favorite."

"Is that why you made someone put me in an ice room at the anniversary event? Because you think I’m a thorn in your side?"

Anne asked this to confirm her suspicion.

She had known someone was after her, trying to create unnecessary trouble for her, but whether every trouble she’d found herself in during these past few months was specifically caused by Clara or not was something she wanted to find out.

"Oh that? I only gave them a little incentive to punish you, don’t worry, I had no intentions of actually watching you die." A twisted smirk appeared on Clara’s pristine face.

Anne couldn’t believe she would look so composed as she openly admitted this, as if she had done no wrong at all.

"So it really was you. You’ve been this kind of person all along yet you treated me like a friend. You always made a show of defending me to Rebecca but you were the one pushing her all along? How could you do something so cruel to me when I’ve never hurt you or done anything wrong to you?"

No emotion other than disdain showed on Clara’s face even as Anne spoke.

It looked as if she didn’t care and Anne’s words were just noise floating into her ears.

"You haven’t hurt me or done anything wrong to me?" Clara suddenly stood up marching slowly towards Anne as she spoke,

"You and I both know what you’re after. Like a little worm you wriggled your way into the Sterling family’s life, and worst of all you chose Andrew. I wasn’t going to be this hard on you, but you started it by wanting the same thing I do. I never ever share Anne, and most certainly not the man I’ve wanted for so many years and just when I’m getting close enough you want to ruin my progress. I wouldn’t have hurt you if you didn’t go to his home, I wouldn’t have hurt you if you didn’t walk into his room and I definitely wouldn’t have hurt you if he didn’t..." She stopped her words, her breathing heavy due to suppressed rage.

’I wouldn’t have hurt you if he didn’t look at you like the only girl his eyes could see...’

She added the last part internally.

The confusion on Anne’s face deepened with every word Clara said.

So she did all that to her because of Andrew?

"You shouldn’t have gone for the man I love?"

"Love?" Anne chuckled as If finding her words ridiculous.

So that was what this whole thing was all about?

"Is this love or just a twisted desire to possess? You’re playing silly little tricks to hurt me just because you don’t have the guts to go straight to a man’s face and tell him you want him. You hurt me because you know that you’ll never be able to get his attention. But why pour your frustrations on me? Why make me the target of your twisted games?"

The more Anne spoke the more hatred shone in Clara’s eyes.

"This ends here Clara, I don’t care what you think you feel for Andrew but you won’t take your anger out on me ever again."

"And what will you do? A little employee working only under my orders, do you think you can fight me? Everything I’ve done so far is to make you realize that you have no place in a high society like ours, you have no place next to the Sterlings, if you still haven’t realized that yet I’ll continue to hurt you until you do and you will never be able to fight against me because you are nothing but a little roach compared to me. You. Are. Nothing!"
