Bought For A Baby, Kept For A Lifetime-Chapter 115: Marry Her
As Andrew entered his car upon leaving Anne inside the Black Thorn Manor, his gaze couldn’t help but be drawn back to the manor as if he could see her through the dark steel gates as the car drove away.
She didn’t know yet that she was pregnant, but without a doubt she would very soon.
Her bright face when she devoured the meal in front of him flashed past his mind and he knew once their transaction was over, he wouldn’t get to see her face again.
The thought awakened an ache so sharp it almost knocked the very breath out of him, that deep pain made his fists clench the steering wheel extremely tightly but determinedly he drove speedily to the Sterling estate, pressing his frustration down upon the accelerator until the car was soaring on the roads, swiftly evading every car it came upon in front of him.
Once he entered the estate, the cold aura around him repelled all the maids from so much the refrained from coming his way as he strode up to his grandfather’s study where the older man had asked him to come.
He found the man sitting behind the sleek oak desk in the study room with a thick cigar hanging on his lips, light smoke swirling in the air.
"Grandfather, I thought you quit, since when did you sign yourself up for an early death again?" The tall confident man strode into the office, calmly snatching the thick cigar from the older man’s lips and pressing it’s butt to the ashtray before circling around to take his seat.
"You’re always the one to stop me from having a little fun, if it were Gabriel he would actually join me instead of stopping me." The old man grumbled despite knowing that this old habit of his was indeed harmful and once in his life there had been a woman that nagged him enough to quit, now the absence of her made him inevitably feel the urge to pick it up again, if only to hear her voice through the wind and see a flash of her face showing him the displeased look she always did.
"People always wonder where Gabriel got his rebellious bone from, I guess now that you’re old it’s hard to see that he got it from you." It was extremely rare to hear a joke out of his ever stiff grandson, so hearing it now elder Sterling had roared out laughter, his eyes crinkling at the edges.
"Don’t put the blame for Gabriel’s rowdy lifestyle on me, I’d say he takes much after your father than me. As for where your father gets it from, I know exactly who."
Elder Sterling knew his own history, six step brothers from different mothers, and a father who worked in the dark world, but his story wasn’t one he could tell. However, if he were to place a blame on who his son and grandson took after with the desire to live a fun, commitment free life, it would be from his own father.
However that streak was something he wanted to break in this next generation of his family.
In elder Sterling’s line, he was the only one who’d settled down and married a woman, fallen for a woman, escaped the life of bloodshed his own father had been immersed in and built an empire for himself.
"Do you know why I married your grandmother?" Elder Sterling suddenly brought this question that made Andrew’s grim face show a lack of interest as he tilted his head sideways gazing out the floor to ceiling windows.
"Is it that old story again about some fairytale love story? You should know by now Grandpa that I’m not interested in hearing it for the thousandth time."
The old man chuckled before saying, "There is a part of that story I have not told you yet."
Andrew’s gaze returned to the old man.
"Your grandmother and I didn’t just share love, before that, there was hatred too."
This seemed to interest Andrew.
His whole life all he’d ever heard about his grandmother was words of adoration and love from the old man that left him sick to the stomach.
It was always love this, love that, their hearts were made for each other, the souls were bound together and other cheesy stuff that made him want to close his eyes and not listen to anymore of it.
Now hearing something different from the old man actually retained his interest.
"Back then, your grandmother despised me more than anyone else, and the feeling was mutual." The old man continued with a bitter smile to his face.
"That hatred between us was what started it, but do you know what broke that hatred?"
The old man didn’t wait for an answer as he continued shortly after,
"Marriage."
"Marriage?" Andrew queried with a dry tone.
"Yes, marriage." The old man smiled.
"The day your grandmother became my bride, I despised her with every fiber of my being but I loved her then already, I loved her so much that words couldn’t describe it, so I settled on hatred. It was the deepest most complicated feeling in the world, I never told her, never warmed up to her, I kept my feelings inside and continued to make her believe that I hated her."
"What you’re saying doesn’t sound possible to me grandpa, you go on about how much you loved grandmother, but maybe you never truly loved her at all. This feeling we call love is just a rush of oxytocin in our brain. It must have been confusing for you to feel oxytocin towards someone you disliked. It wasn’t a legendary love story like you made it out to be, it was just a clash of brain chemicals and emotions you shouldn’t have given into." He said the words rapidly, logically and to the point, then raised himself up his seat.
"I believe we shouldn’t remain in the past talking about grandmother all over again. You should go get some rest now."
Just as he began to make his way out of the study the old man’s voice came along stopping him in his tracks.
"That girl is already pregnant."
Andrew’s steps came to a rapid stop, he didn’t move anymore from that point. The words the old man uttered were something he shouldn’t know about.
How had he come to know?
"I won’t beat around the bush or draw this for longer than it’s supposed to be, you’re one of the best businessmen I know so I’m certain you’ll appreciate a good negotiation. So I have a proposition for you."
Andrew turned to the old man at this moment, seeing a bright cunning gleam in his aged eyes.
"Marry her." He said with finality before adding, "Marry her and the company is yours."
This was elder Sterling’s plan. From now on, none of the Sterling blood will be born out of wedlock like he had been, like his grandsons had been.
That was what the whole plan of his grandsons producing an heir had been about all along.
