Chapter 74: How Could He Forget About Her?

Even after two days, news of Jeremy Morgan’s death and his alleged involvement in human trafficking and illegal drugs continued to receive extensive coverage across all national media—television, print, and the internet.

Noah felt satisfied as he read the news on his cell phone while their car sped toward the Morgan family’s house.

Not long after, their car finally pulled into the Morgan family’s main house.

As Noah exited the vehicle, Edgar followed closely behind as they made their way toward the main entrance.

Unlike his first visit to this house, no one greeted them upon their arrival. But unlike the last time, this time he saw his Aunt Rachel waiting for him at the door.

Wearing a black gown and with tear-stained red eyes, she approached him and gently took his hand.

Her grip was trembling as she said, "Oh, Noah, I’m so glad you’ve finally come. Please follow me... Your Grandpa and Grandma are already waiting for you."

Noah was utterly speechless. He didn’t expect such a warm welcome. He barely nods at her as he silently follows her inside the house.

They didn’t just stay in the living room; they proceeded directly to the house’s left wing, where the Morgan family welcomed important guests to pay their last respects to Jeremy Morgan before burying him in the family cemetery.

The vast room resembles a hall, with several rows of chairs, and the coffin is placed at the front.

Noah spots a few groups of people in the room.

They all seem to be in a serious conversation, and no one pays attention to him. He keeps following Rachel, walking down the aisle toward the front row.

However, when Alexander Morgan finally spotted him and called out his full name, "Noah Morgan—" all eyes suddenly turned to him.

Even the photographer, who initially was only capturing the family member and influential figure in the room, begins to snap photos of him as if he were a celebrity walking the red carpet.

He lowers her gaze, trying to avoid their flashlight as it starts to hurt his eyes.

’Take a deep breath, sir...’ Suddenly, Zoe’s playful voice rang in his mind, surprising Noah. ’You need to give them your best smile. It would be quite a challenge for me to remove your less-handsome picture.’

Zoe’s playful tone echoed in his mind, helping Noah feel a bit more at ease.

’Oh, come on, did you really ask me to admit that I was the one who killed him?’

’Well, Sir, I’m just trying to distract you to make you calm. You look so nervous—’

Noah, no longer concerned, spoke to Zoe as Alexander Morgan embraced him warmly, shocking him.

Before Noah could react, Alexander Morgan had already loosened his hold and gently rested his hand on his shoulder.

"Noah, my grandson, thank you for coming. Please come here and pay your last respects to your older brother, Jeremy. I’m sure he’s happy to see you."

Alexander Morgan’s warm tone once again left Noah speechless. He feels as if he has just met a new person. This old man’s actions almost make him believe he’s a good person.

’Zoe, did someone possess this old man’s soul? Why does he seem genuine like me? I mean, I remember a week ago, he looked at me like I was a criminal.’

’Sir, this man truly puts on an Oscar-worthy show. It’s easy to almost believe him. Just a friendly reminder—please be careful!’

’Thanks—’

...

While Noah had to swallow the shamelessness of his Grandpa and the rest of his family, Alexis Moore sat in the last row, staring in shock at the tall man standing by the coffin of his late fiancée.

’Oh my goodness! That man was Noah Morgan—the missing child of Anderson Morgan?’

Alexis wondered, blinking several times, just wanting to be sure the person she saw was the same one she kissed passionately.

She gradually lowered her head, trying to hide her blushing cheeks as memories of their hot kiss began to surface in her mind, causing a faint warmth to spread through her body.

"Lexy, I know losing Jeremy so quickly is incredibly tough for you. But could you try to stop crying for him? He didn’t deserve your tears..." Zara Wagner, Alexis’ mother, whispered.

Suddenly, Alexis felt a surge of anger upon hearing her mother’s words. She remembered that her mother had once wanted her to marry Jeremy.

Now, after all the news revealing Jeremy’s true nature, it was her mother who urged her to stop thinking about him.

Her mother even tried to stop her from attending this funeral. Still, because her father insisted she come, she’s sitting here now.

Alexis could only silently take a deep sigh—pretending to be sad—while keeping her head hung low, avoiding speaking to her mother.

Despite feeling a bit annoyed about coming here to pay respects to someone like Jeremy Morgan, she is surprisingly happy because she has finally discovered that the person’s name is Noah Morgan.

’Noah! I like your name.’

Alexis giggled inwardly, but her happiness gradually faded later when she remembered who he was.

’Oh, damn! How should I approach him now? He must be shocked if he finds out I’m Jeremy’s fiancée, right? He must be avoiding me, right?’

Sigh!

After adjusting her expression, Alexis lifted her head and looked at the coffin. When she didn’t see Noah there, she felt worried.

’Did he leave? So fast?’ she wondered while looking around, trying to locate him.

When she saw him sitting on the front row with Alexander Morgan right beside him, she felt a warm feeling in her heart.

"Lexy, what about that young man, Noah Morgan? I recall reading about him in the news. He owns the Golden Phoenix Group."

Alexis was surprised by her mother’s offer, yet she also felt happy because it gave her a new opportunity.

Zara held her daughter’s hand and whispered, "If you agree with him. I will try to speak to his Grandma to arrange a marriage for him. How?"

Alexis, "..."

’Did my mom know what I was thinking?’ she wondered, speechless and trying to hide her blushing cheeks.

...

Not long after, they finally moved to the family cemetery.

Standing behind Noah and Edgar, they saw that the family had finally finished all the boring speeches and had buried Jeremy in his final resting place.

"Sir, I’m sorry to ask, but why didn’t you join them?" Edgar suddenly asked.

"Oh, come on, Edgar, you already know the answer, but still ask me?" Noah smiled faintly.

Noah gently declined Alexander Morgan’s invitation to sit in the front row at Jeremy’s funeral, explaining that he didn’t want to draw too much media attention out of respect for Jeremy Morgan and his family.

But the truth is, he feels uncomfortable standing there because he was the one who took Jeremy’s life.

They both remain silent again, staring at the family and friends as they now put the flower on the tomb.

However, as a few friends and family members gradually left the place, Edgar gently turned to him and asked, "What would you like to do next, Sir? Should we go back to Morgan House, or shall we head home?"

Noah adjusts the bridge of his sunglasses as he glances at Edgar.

"We shall go—" Noah’s words were cut off as a voice suddenly sounded from behind him.

"Hi, you! Finally, we meet again..."

Noah was surprised to hear the familiar voice. He quickly looked to his left and saw Alexis Moore standing a few steps ahead, her charming smile brightening her face.

’Oh, damn! Why did I forget about her?’

Noah completely forgot about her appearance. Of course, Alexis Moore will come here; she is Jeremy’s fiancée, after all.

He took a small step back while staring at her from head to toe, acting as if he didn’t recognize who she was.

I’m really sorry, but may I ask who you are? He asked with a curious smile.

Alexis awkwardly smiles as she looks up to meet his eyes, but his sunglasses conceal his eyes. She can’t quite tell what he’s thinking.

"Ugh, well, I forgot to tell you—the person I mentioned that night was actually Jeremy Morgan," Alexis finally managed to say, trying harder to appear calm before him.

"No way! You are Jeremy Morgan’s fiancés?"

When he saw her shrug and hesitate to answer, he laughed inwardly. How fun to tease her and watch her expression turn nervous now.

"Ugh... well... I don’t really have a relationship with him," Alexis whispered, glancing around to make sure no one was near. "We’re just pretending—"

Noah finally smiled at her while taking off his shades. "I remember you told me that, Alexis."

"Phew! I’m relieved," Alexis said, pretending to wipe her sweat. But Noah’s following words made her blush again.

"Why do you seem worried that I know you’re actually engaged to Jeremy? Oh, Alexis, do you like me?" Noah asked, pretending to be surprised, a gentle chuckle escaping as he noticed her embarrassment.

Alexis’s hands clenched tightly as she looked at Noah in confusion.

’Gosh, why is this man testing me? Should I be honest with him?’
