Bloodline Reckoning: The System Made Me Filthy Rich-Chapter 72: Shocking News
Chapter 72: Shocking News
Noah heads to the Golden Phoenix Tower after Emma and Jason finally leave the hotel. freewёbnoνel-com
He puts aside his worries about Emma and those people in Opal City because something more urgent is bothering him now.
Since leaving the warehouse complex last night, he hadn’t heard anything about how Matthew and his team wrapped things up at the crime scene.
Until now, there had been no news of Jeremy Morgan’s death, which made him curious about how Matthew would orchestrate it.
Before Noah drove his car, he texted Matthew. He told him he was on his way to the Golden Phoenix Tower and asked Matthew to report to him in person immediately.
Noah plans to tell his father about what happened last night, when he killed one of The Morgans—He wants to observe how his father will react to the news.
Precisely after one afternoon, Noah reached the sixty-ninth floor. And when the elevator door opened, Edgar was already waiting there, and he immediately greeted Noah.
As usual, Edgar greeted him politely in a royal way and led him to his father’s room.
Before Noah entered, he paused and looked back at Edgar.
"Did you hear anything from Matthew in the past hour? I asked him to report. Why hasn’t he given me any updates?"
"Yes, Sir. He told me a few minutes ago that he was about to meet and report directly to you, Sir. I believe he’s already waiting for you upstairs."
He continued, "About the news you were referring to, Matthew mentioned to me it will appear in the news media shortly. So, probably his family already found out about his death."
Noah said nothing further; he dismissed Edgar and went into his father’s bedroom.
Since the first day he entered this room, his father’s condition has stayed the same. Still peacefully asleep—didn’t care what really happened to the Morgan family.
Sitting on the edge of the bed, Noah looked at his father’s pale face, feeling even more saddened.
He truly wanted to speak with him and ask about many things, but, of course, his father never responded to any of his questions.
The most urgent question on his mind now is: why did he fake his death?
"Dad, can you wake up?"
Noticing that his fingers weren’t moving, he continued to update him on what had happened the night before.
"I’m sorry, Father, I killed your nephew. I had no choice! He forced me to do it and caused my Ultimate Revenge to surface, and just like that, I took his life."
"Dad, I hope you wake up and scold me. I’m prepared to accept whatever decision you make. I genuinely don’t mind if you decide to scold or punish me for what I did to your family..."
Silence filled the air as Noah took a deep breath quietly, waiting for his father’s reaction, which still did not come even after he confessed.
However, he continued to express what was bothering him at the moment.
He stayed there for another ten minutes, talking to the wall like it was his best friend, since his father was in a coma—everything he said just faded into the air.
...
By the time Noah reached the seventy floor, he saw Matthew already waiting for him in the lounge area, sitting while watching television with Edgar seated on a nearby sofa.
They both appeared absorbed in the news and didn’t even notice he was there.
As Noah was about to take a few steps, Matthew finally noticed him.
"Sir, you should see this exciting news..." Matthew said, smiling as he pointed at the TV.
Aware of what Matthew was trying to say, Noah hurried to join them and sat on the single sofa, his gaze now fixed on the breaking news on the government-owned public television.
The female news announcer began reporting:
"After a lengthy investigation, the police have finally uncovered a human trafficking syndicate. Undercover officers led the team to their headquarters in an abandoned warehouse, where they discovered several young women kept captive. Authorities also found illegal drugs, millions in cash, and several lifeless bodies at the scene. Only one death victim has been identified so far—a 28-year-old man named JM. The investigation is still ongoing with more details..."
Noah was surprised when he heard the news. He knew Matthew was creative and full of ideas, but this time he was genuinely amazed. His creativity was off the charts.
’How did he even come up with such a plot, especially one involving the police? And also human trafficking?’ Noah was speechless.
Once the news report was finally finished, Matthew eagerly turned to Noah with a big smile and asked, "Sir, how is it? Are you satisfied with the news?"
Noah smiled, shaking his head lightly.
"I like your creativity, Matt. And I’m impressed by how you involved the police in your plan. But, human trafficking? How could you come up with that idea? That’s a serious crime."
Seeing Matthew almost laugh, Edgar shared the same amused expression, enough to make Noah frown as he realized something was amiss.
He narrowed his eyes on Matthew. "Don’t tell me all that is true?"
Matthew nods as he explains, "Sir, everything in the news is true. The only thing I changed was about the police investigation, which explained that their business rivals attacked their base camp and a murder occurred...."
Noah gasped. He was shocked to hear that Jeremy Morgan was involved in such a business. He glanced at Edgar.
"Did you know Jeremy was involved in that business, Edgar?"
"Yes, Sir. We have been aware of it for a long time. Not just Jeremy, but all those people in the Morgan family are under our watch. We know everything they did, but we didn’t bother to reveal it because we only do so in cases like this."
Now, Noah is beginning to understand why his father didn’t want to get involved with Morgan.
Standing up from his seat, Noah approached the glass wall and looked out at the street below. His thoughts drifted to what was happening in the Morgan at that moment.
Those people must be in chaos, and his beloved uncle Andrew Morgan must be devastated to have lost his only son. But whatever it is, he doesn’t care.
A satisfied smile formed on his lips as Jeremy’s case finally concluded. Now, he can concentrate on his own plan.
However, Noah’s smile gradually faded when he heard Edgar’s phone ring and mention the name Alexander Morgan.
Noah glanced over to see Edgar.
’Why does the old man call?’
