Chapter 30: Death of a Dragon?

The smoke cleared slowly, drifting across the ruined crystal floor like a feral, funeral smoke. The massive crowd leaned forward in their seats, they were terrified, their hearts heaving with agony. They were desperate to see who had survived the clash.

When the dust fully dispersed... Algreth was standing. He was untouched, unburned and unshaken. But this time, his gaze was not bored. He brushed a bit of ash from his shoulder, and his eyes narrowed with the angry grin. For the first time since appearing in the arena, his expression showed something new.

It was anger, that alone told everyone just how strong the Dracortis siblings really were. They had managed to annoy a legendary demon.

Pyrix slowly tried to wake up from the crystal floor, moving forward to him. The Dragon of Fire was a mess, his arm shattered and dislocated. Blood splattered from his body, forehead blinding one eye. He was coughing blood.

His flames were dim, shimmering like a dying candle. But his eyes... his eyes still burned.

"You really are..." Pyrix whispered, spitting a tooth onto the crystal floor, "...a monster."

Algreth looked at him. He replied with one simple fact of nature, like the sky is blue. "I am above monsters, boy."

Algreth took a step forward, but before he could move again, a deep groaning sound filled the arena.

THRUMMM!!

It was a slow call, Pyrix slowly stood back up. It came from deep inside Pyrix’s chest, the trembling rhythm humming loudly, echoing into the thin air. The air rippled as if the heat was melting reality itself.

A shadow rose behind Pyrix, a massive, winged, and glowing shadow with infernal fire. Pyrix threw his head back and screamed, roaring a powerful magic chant.

"DRAGON SOUL: TRUE ASCENSION!"

ROAAAAR!!

The transformation was vehement, his human skin split. Scales erupted and excavated, the bones reshaped with cracks. In seconds, a colossal Fire Dragon skewered into the sky, over the Crystal Colosseum. He was magnificent and terrifying. His scales flared like mini suns, and his wings spread wide enough to block out the light of the Nexus Crystal.

The King witnessed a legend today, there are less people who witnessed Dracortis full transformation. The Generals stepped back, their instincts screaming to RUN!!

The entire arena felt the chill run down their spine from the fear of Pyrix’s power.

Algreth stopped. He looked up at the towering beast, simply tilted his head.

"A full transformation," Algreth smiled. "Rare. You are burning your lifespan to maintain that form."

Pyrix’s voice thundered from the dragon’s throat. The words shook the stadium, reverberating with blazing fire. "EVEN IF WE DIE, YOU WILL NOT WALK OUT OF THIS PLACE ALIVE!"

Below the massive dragon, the other siblings slowly managed to stand.

Stark. Veldra. Aeryth. Luxara.

They were bleeding. They were gasping. Their mana was nearly empty.

But they stood up. They looked at their brother and they looked at the enemy in front of them and they ignited.

Five Dragons together. For the first time, Algreth stopped smiling, a grin rushed into face, he darted his eyes up, lifting his Chronvolr, the Sword of Time, with both hands.

The arena floor rumbled around him. The immense pressure of his stance warped time and space, causing the crystal floor to age thousands of years in a second and disintegrated into flickering dust.

Pyrix spread his massive wings wide, flooding fire through the air, turning the arena into an oven.

"YOU FACE THE DRAGON CLAN!!"

The entire stadium lit up with hellfire. Aeryth summoned a hurricane storm, lightning drifting across his skin.

Veldra called forth a serpentine dragon of ocean water, swirling around his body.

Stark slammed his fists together, turning the ground into a living wall of earth spikes.

Luxara ignited with the incandescent radiance of judgment, shone bright.

They moved as one. Even broken... They were legends. Algreth smiled. It was a terrifying, razor-thin smile.

"Good." Algreth whispered. "Struggle harder."

ZIP!!

He vanished, and he skipped time, instantly reappearing fifty feet in the air, above Pyrix’s massive dragon head.

Chronvolr descended. It was an execution. He slammed the shimmering flat surface of the mighty blade into the dragon’s skull with a blow that bent time itself.

BOOOOOOM!!

The shockwave detonated the arena, ripping it apart. Half of the floor disintegrated instantly. Pyrix roared in agony.

ROOOOARRRRRRRR!!!!!

The blow cracked his skull scales. His massive head was pulverized downward, but he did not fall. He snapped his jaws and fired. "INFERNO BREATH!"

A pillar of pure incineration hurled straight upward, surrounding Algreth. It was hot enough to vaporize steel.

The crowd screamed, thinking Algreth was gone. But then... footsteps. Algreth walked out of the flames, gracefully as if fire didn’t exist. The fire didn’t touch him because he was existing in a future where the fire had already burnt and worn out.

"Hot," Algreth said, his voice dryly. He landed on the ground gracefully.

Stark rushed towards him. The Earth Dragon roared, the ground rumbling with every step. He drove a massive punch that could shatter a mountain directly towards Algreth’s chest. "DIE!"

Algreth didn’t even look at him. He cut once.

SLASH!!

He cut the timeline where Stark’s armor holds strength, severing the ounce of strength into nothing.

CRACK!!

Stark’s earth armor shattered into dust. His skin split. He collapsed in mid-run, sliding past Algreth, unconscious before he hit the wall.

Veldra was next, thrusting his palms forward, sending twin dragons of pressurized water, one from the left, one from the right.

Algreth stepped forward through the water dragons. He turned his body into mist for a fraction of a second, passing through the attack.

He appeared in front of Veldra. "Too fluid."

WHACKKKKK!!

He slammed Veldra with a backlash. The impact sounded like a gunshot. Veldra spun in the air and smashed into the barrier wall, leaving a spiderweb of cracks in the crystal.

Aeryth screamed, using everything he had left. He dissolved his body into the wind.

"Vacuum Disaster!" The hurricanes swirled into a tornado, trying to suffocate Demon legend.

Algreth raised his hand. "Stasis."

He changed the time of the air, reverting it to a past vacuum state. The tornado vanished instantly.

Aeryth shook, falling from the sky, gasping for air that wasn’t there. He hit the floor unconscious.

Luxara. The last one. She rose upward, wings spread, eyes lingering with fury. She looked like an angel. "Divine Judgment!"

She dove forward. She became a spear of light even Gods should look away from such radiance. But, Algreth didn’t, he simply watched her come. He waited until she was inches away. He caught Luxara by the face, grabbing her head. He stopped her momentum instantly.

CRUNCH!

He slammed her into the ground. Light exploded into fragments, fading into darkness. Luxara lay unconscious, her white coat stained with red. Algreth destroyed the Dracortis siblings simply, without even releasing his full power.

Silence fell. Only Pyrix remained standing again. The colossal fire dragon was bleeding tremendously from multiple wounds. His wings were torn, and his skull was fractured. He struggled to stay upright, his massive legs trembling.

He looked around. His brothers. His sister. They were all down.

His pupils shrank in absolute shock and disbelief. I had gone full form, and burnt my life energy. And still... I could not match Algreth.

Pyrix’s voice cracked, growling with rage and heartbreak.

"What... are you...?" Pyrix questioned ragefully.

Algreth raised his head slightly, drifting his eyes at the dying dragon. "I am the one who existed before the struggle," Algreth said softly, "before pride, before crowns and even before time."

He walked toward Pyrix. "I am inevitable. I am Time itself."

Pyrix tried to roar... roar to summon one last flame, but his body failed. He collapsed onto his chest, his neck stretched out on the crystal floor.

Algreth stood before the massive dragon’s head, hovering in the air. He raised Chronvolr with both hands. The air turned to stone. The world slowed down. The heartbeat of every person in the stadium stopped.

Algreth aimed for Pyrix’s skull, unleashing a killing blow. No one can stop that beast, they could only watch Pyrix die.

"Goodbye, Dragon," Algreth whispered and descended his sword downward like a guillotine. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂
