With Boss Honda gone, the tension in the air around the area seemed to have completely drained out. People were walking around and even laughing. It made the club feel like a completely different place compared to before.
But Shuu did not let his guard down.
He picked up the food for the day and quickly headed back to his room and locked the door behind him. Rin was still sleeping, so Shuu decided to wake him up and give him some food to eat.
After that, Shuu had a guiding session with Rin, and Rin decided to go back to sleep because his body felt heavy.
Once he was asleep, it was time for Shuu to start planning for an escape.
So far, he had managed to get a general map of this place along with some other critical information that would help him out. It had helped him form a plan as well.
Now, the only thing left for him was to find out the schedule of the guards. Once he had that information, he would be ready to run away.
The only problem here was that Shuu would have to talk to the guards in order to figure out their schedule. And he was not looking forward to it.
’Don’t forget, Shuu. You are doing this for Rin. You need to get out of here for Rin’s sake and safety. You do not have time to waste here.’
Shuu reminded himself as he walked around the backside of the club. The loud music from the other side made Shuu’s ears throb, but he endured it all and walked toward the guard.
The guard looked like he was about to fall asleep, but he picked himself up as soon as he noticed Shuu.
"Is there anything I can help you with? I cannot let you in the club because Boss Honda has strict policies about it. But I can likely get you something to drink...?"
The guard asked in a worried but hopeful voice. A small part in the back of Shuu’s head told him that the person in front of him was an esper, and it was an esper’s instinct to want to please a guide.
Shuu forced his body not to tense up since he wanted to come across as a clueless guide. And that was what he portrayed with his words as well.
"Oh-! Is that so? I-I don’t mean to get you in trouble... I did want to try a drink, but I don’t know if I can trust someone to bring me one without drugging it."
The guard swallowed nervously as he looked at Shuu. He bit his lip before he decided to speak up again.
"I-I might be able to help you out. If you cannot trust anyone else, then please, at least trust me. My shift will end in about 10 minutes, and once the other guard comes, I will fetch you a drink from the counter."
The guard promised, and Shuu kept a smile on his face.
"Thank you. That will help me out a lot."
The guard looked stunned by Shuu’s smile, and for the next 10 minutes he continued to smile like a fool. Once the shifts changed, the guard went and asked for a glass and brought it back.
"Here, please enjoy this. I-If you need anything else, then please let me know. I-I will try to do my best..."
The guard was too nervous to speak, and Shuu felt sorry for him. Especially since it looked like the guard had gotten his hopes up for something he was not going to get.
But as sorry as Shuu felt for him, he was no martyr, and he was not going to make himself suffer because of this guard.
"Thank you. I will seek you out if I need anything else."
Shuu promised before he left. He could feel the guard looking at his retreating back with a look filled with longing. Unfortunately, the guard was just going to get used by Shuu.
The drink in Shuu’s hands felt like hot poison, and he made sure to pour it over a potted plant the first chance he got.
Just because the guard had been nice to him did not mean that this drink could not have been laced with something. It was better not to take any chances.
Shuu reached his room and pushed the door open.
Rin was starting to wake up, and he immediately looked for Shuu’s presence. Shuu quickly walked over to him and wrapped his arms around Rin’s frame to pull him into a hug.
"W-Where...?"
Rin asked as he looked around, and Shuu quickly answered him.
"We are in another world. I will tell you more once you are a little safer. Now, go back to sleep and allow your body to adjust to this world."
Rin finally fell asleep, and Shuu decided to check the internet. He needed to learn more about this place, and the news was a good source for such information.
Currently, the news was buzzing with the emergence of a new guild with a lot of high-profile people who were even being backed by the esper and guide association. It was a big deal all around and was being called the next ’miracle’ of mankind.
It sounded grand and also reminded Shuu of something Kaiden would do. Unfortunately, Kaiden was not here, and Shuu needed to accept this fact. He would likely never see Kaiden and Caelis again, and that thought hurt... a lot...
’I-It’s hard to breathe. Am I... panicking? I cannot allow myself to panic like this. I need to get myself under control...’
But it was hard. Especially since Shuu’s body refused to cooperate.
Rin’s presence helped a lot, and Shuu was able to concentrate on him rather than panic once he felt Rin grabbing his clothes and pulling him closer.
In the end, Shuu decided to go to sleep as well. He wanted to fall asleep and wake up near Kaiden once more. He wanted his partner to tell him that it would all be alright once more...
