Chapter 364: 364: Generosity Enough

It was a three-day outing. They went out for three days, enjoying different things and seeing various performances and attractions.

Three days of break from the chaotic atmosphere. Moments when they didn’t have to worry about anything but simply enjoy the present.

But those three days of rest and joy slowly came to an end when they found Mr. Albert on the streets of the market.

***"

It was evening at the market, and the scenery was beautiful and bright, with lanterns and fire shows filling the sky.

They were all returning from a performance they had just witnessed. They laughed and discussed it when they came face to face with someone ahead of them.

Mr. Albert was carrying the unconscious Felix behind him. Both of them looked shabby, especially Mr. Albert, who appeared completely exhausted.

They all paused, staring at Mr. Albert, who had his eyes fixed on them. He could clearly see through the magic and recognized them immediately.

He gasped, a wave of uncertainty running through him. He didn’t know how to feel seeing Eden. He knew Eden hated him and would likely want him dead.

But at the same time, he felt relieved and hopeful. Because at that moment, he didn’t care if he lived or died. He only wished for his son’s safety, and he hoped Eden could secure that.

Even though he knew the risk that came with it.

"You..."

Eden hesitated, staring at him. Adrian instantly pulled out his sword, positioning it toward him.

"And what do you think you’re doing here? How did you get here? Who sent you? You won’t take him without a fight," Adrian threatened.

But Mr. Albert shook his head. "No. I wasn’t sent by anyone, and I’m not here to harm anyone or anything. I—"

"Lies," Lysander cut in. "You work for him. And I’m sure you’re here to take Eden away. I won’t let that happen." They stepped forward, shielding Eden.

Mr. Albert looked weak. He was clearly too tired to speak properly and could barely keep carrying his unconscious son.

But he tried to explain. "I’m really not here to do any of that. No one sent me... I... I’m actually running away from the Emperor. I escaped, and I’m on the run, so..." He sighed heavily.

They were silent for a while, staring at him. They clearly found it impossible to believe.

"And why would we believe you?" Cordelia, who was hiding behind Helen, spoke up. "You’re so loyal to the Emperor. How is it even possible that you’d run away from him? It makes no sense. I’m sure he sent you here," she insisted.

"No... I’m not. I—" Mr. Albert panted. "Please. It’s okay if you want to kill me here... it’s okay if you want to abandon me. But please take my son with you. Take him to safety... Please protect him from the Emperor. He wants him dead, and I can’t let that happen as a father. So please..." He pleaded, staring directly at Eden.

Eden stood there, watching and reading him as he begged.

"And why would we believe you? We’re already at risk having you find us here. Why would we take your son?" Adrian demanded coldly, his sword still drawn.

"Please... I’m begging you." Mr. Albert stared at Eden. "You should believe me, please. I know I’ve been terrible to you. But please, for the sake of my son’s goodwill toward you, take him and keep him safe..." He begged desperately.

Eden read through him carefully and couldn’t detect any trace of a lie in what he said.

At that moment, he walked forward, both hands behind his back. "You look exhausted..." His eyes lingered over Mr. Albert. "Why don’t you come with us and get some rest?"

They all stared at Eden, shocked.

"How can you trust him? Have you forgotten everything he did?" Helen asked.

Eden turned and looked at her with a calm smile. "Don’t worry. I know what I’m doing. Trust me."

It was hard for them to accept, but since they trusted Eden knew what he was doing, they agreed without further complaint.

Eden turned back to Mr. Albert. "Let’s go," he said simply, then walked off.

Mr. Albert followed them back to the mansion that night, carrying his unconscious son.

The Emperor paced back and forth in front of his throne, restless. His hands trembled uncontrollably, and he couldn’t stop moving in an uneasy manner.

The demon inside him was acting up, and he felt increasingly unstable. He was running out of pills to keep himself calm—he had been overdosing on the recommended amount, and now his supply was nearly gone.

Mr. Albert wasn’t around to find more souls to help calm him down. He was running out of options and growing more desperate by the moment.

His veins had already become prominent, and things were not looking good for him.

He had been searching for a way out—a way to find Eden as soon as possible, or to track down Mr. Albert and his son, who had fled.

After much thought, he found a solution. A way to find Eden faster. A way to lure Eden out of hiding instead of wasting time searching.

The Emperor summoned the general in charge of the Imperial Army. Soon, the general stood before him.

"You summoned me, Your Majesty." The general bowed.

The Emperor stared at him. "I want you to help me with something. Now," he said urgently.

"And how may I be of service today, Your Majesty?" the general asked.

"I want you to take your army down to the Kingdom of Valencrest immediately. Surround the palace and make sure you capture the Queen and bring her to me," he instructed.

The general did not question the orders. "Yes, Your Majesty. I will bring you good news soon." He bowed, rose to his feet, and left.

The Emperor stood there, watching him go. He smiled.

He had considered this plan for a while, and it was simply perfect.

A flawless way to lure them out.

"I’d like to see how long you can hide now," he scoffed.
