Chapter 490: Chapter 423: Wife, Thank You (Third Update)

"No way!" Ai Ni Teng said in shock, looking at her mother. "You’re not trying to scare me, are you? You Jia and I already decided that we’d wait until my fifth brother and the eighth one finish their weddings before we try for a baby!"

"Once your sister-in-law comes out, go get yourself checked." Tong Yao sighed. How could such a smart mother like her end up raising three such fools? When it comes to kids, each one is more clueless than the last!

Ai Ni Teng looked over at You Jia and asked in a hushed voice, "Do you think it’s possible?"

You Jia pressed his lips together tightly, pulling Ai Ni Teng into his arms. "Let’s go check in a bit."

Mai Zekai adjusted his glasses and leisurely walked over. "Don’t wait for a bit; Fourth Sister-in-law will need a little longer to come out anyway. Let me take my Sixth Sister to check first."

Teng Tianxiang also approached, "Hurry and get it checked. I’ll go with you, grandpa’s got time."

"Dad~ Aren’t you tired at all..." Tong Yao, seeing her father glaring at her, shook her head reluctantly. "Fine, go, go, forget I said anything."

The old man, stubborn as always, led Ai Ni Teng and You Jia to follow Mai Zekai to the lab. As he walked, he kept muttering, "See how happy your mom and dad are over their grandkid? Their eyes nearly disappear from grinning so much. They don’t care about you at all!"

Ai Ni Teng laughed and said, "Grandpa, I still have you and Grandma."

"Good thing you do have us!" Teng Tianxiang grumbled proudly, pushing open the lab door.

Ai Ni Teng hesitated for a moment before stepping inside.

While they were running tests here, the surgery inside the operating room was also nearing its end. From start to finish, Tong Airui hadn’t dared glance at his wife’s stomach even once.

"Count everything!" The lead nurse straightened up after the last stitch was done.

"Count complete!"

"Good." The lead nurse turned to Tong Airui, "Duke Airui, you may step down from the operating table now."

"One second," Tong Airui said, leaning down to kiss Yi Luowa’s forehead. "Honey, thank you."

Yi Luowa smiled softly. "I should thank you too, for giving me two children who share my bloodline."

Tong Airui’s eyes reddened slightly. He could tell the deeper meaning behind her words. 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂

Yi Luowa reached up to pat his cheek. "Stop crying now. You’ve already teared up several times in just this hour."

"I suddenly feel more fragile," Tong Airui chuckled, giving her lips a quick kiss before working with the doctors to move her from the operating table to the mobile bed.

From the operating room to the hallway outside, the couple’s hands never parted once. He looked at her; she looked back at him. This time, the reflections in their eyes were of each other’s smiling faces.

"Are the babies good-looking?" Yi Luowa started scanning around as soon as she exited the operating room, looking for the babies.

"They’re lively." Yi Weiyang smiled warmly. "Good-looking—just like how you were as a child."

"Let’s get to the recovery room first; you can see them shortly." For the first time, Long Che held his granddaughter in his arms, smiling as he said to Yi Luowa, "The one I’m holding is the girl."

Yi Luowa grinned widely.

Everyone escorted her to the recovery room. Once she was settled in, Tong Yao and Long Che placed the two babies by her sides, separating them.

Yi Luowa glanced at one, then at the other, and the more she looked, the more her lips pouted. "Second Uncle’s a liar—he said the babies were good-looking, but they’re as ugly as can be!"

"Where are they ugly!" Tong Yao laughed. "They’re not ugly at all! You’re just like your dad. Look at their features—so well-defined. Wait until tomorrow; they’ll already start to look different day by day. The older they get, the cuter they’ll be."

"You were just like this as a baby." Yi Weiyang laughed. "The little girl is the spitting image of you when you were born."

"I was this ugly as a baby?" Yi Luowa scrunched her face.

Tong Airui glanced at his daughter with a smile. "Honey, you were not ugly as a baby. You looked like a perfect little doll."

"If she thinks we’re ugly, let’s not let her see us!" Long Che chuckled, picking his granddaughter back up.

"Wah-wah!" The two little ones, offended by the criticism, burst into tears.

Tong Yao quickly picked up the grandson. "There, there, don’t cry; your mommy’s just joking."

"Such little crybabies!" Yi Luowa tried to stifle her laugh but quickly remembered the doctor’s instructions and stopped herself.

"Does it hurt?" Yi Weiyang asked nervously.

"No," Yi Luowa shook her head. "The doctor said to avoid talking too loudly and to be careful even when coughing."

"Then stick to the doctor’s advice."

Jimo Shanshan and the lead nurse entered, clearing the room of visitors before examining Yi Luowa and pressing a hemostatic sandbag on her.

"Once the anesthesia wears off, there’ll be pain. This machine comes with a pressure pump; if it becomes unbearable, just press the button. But try to use it sparingly," the lead nurse instructed Tong Airui.

"Will it be very painful?" Tong Airui asked worriedly.

"It’s generally tolerable."

Jimo Shanshan sighed. "It’s still easier than giving birth naturally."

Yi Luowa smiled softly. "It’s fine; I’m not afraid of pain. Shanshan, is the exam over? I want to see the babies."

Jimo Shanshan chuckled. "Your energy is something else. After such a major surgery, you still have the drive to think about the babies."

Yi Luowa blinked playfully. "Haha, I didn’t get to enjoy seeing them earlier."

Tong Airui teased her, "I thought you said they were ugly?"

"Aren’t they?" Yi Luowa pouted.

Tong Airui shook his head. "I think they’re adorable."

Yi Luowa gazed at him lovingly. "I still think they’re ugly."

"Yaoyao, Ai Ni really is pregnant!" Teng Tianxiang’s joyous laugh rang out from outside the door.

Yi Luowa looked at Tong Airui. "Ai Ni’s what?"

Tong Airui froze for a moment. "Could it be... that she’s pregnant?"

"I really must have baby brain!" Yi Luowa swept a hand across her forehead. "Go check and tell me when you get back."

Tong Airui hurried out the door.

In the hall, everyone surrounded Ai Ni Teng, who was now grinning foolishly, unable to utter a complete sentence.

"Is it true?" Tong Airui, standing at the edge of the crowd, had a clear view thanks to his height.

Ai Ni Teng nodded enthusiastically.

"That’s amazing! I’ll go tell your sister-in-law—she’s waiting for the news." Tong Airui turned to head back inside but paused, reconsidering. "Ai Ni, don’t just stand here. Go home and take care of yourself."

Ai Ni Teng smiled. "Go take care of my sister-in-law; no need to fuss over me. I’ll visit her in a bit."

"Mom, give me the baby. Stay with Ai Ni and help her get home," Tong Airui suggested as he returned.

"You don’t even know how to hold a baby! No way!" Tong Yao smacked away her son’s hand. "Go look after Luowa—I’ll have your grandparents accompany Ai Ni home later."

"I’m not going home. I’m perfectly fine staying here." Ai Ni Teng grabbed her brother’s arm. "I’ll go see my sister-in-law, then stop talking to them."

"Fine, but once you’ve seen her, go straight home." Tong Airui slowed his stride.

Seeing they were about to enter the recovery room, You Jia quickly caught up and reached to steady Ai Ni Teng’s arm. Seeing this, Tong Airui smirked and supported her other arm.

Yi Luowa noticed the overly careful entourage entering and smirked. "So it’s true, huh?"

"True as can be," Ai Ni Teng said with a grin. "Mom scolded me earlier, saying I’m as clueless as you—having a baby without even knowing it."

Yi Luowa laughed. "Well, I was sabotaged on purpose. What’s your excuse? How could you not know?"

Once inside, her brother and husband were still holding her up. Ai Ni Teng chuckled and pulled their hands down. "It’s not that dramatic; let me sit and chat with my sister-in-law."

You Jia quickly fetched a chair and helped her sit by the bedside.

Ai Ni Teng wrinkled her nose playfully. "Sis-in-law, I think I might finally understand what you’ve been going through these past few months."

"Be careful, and there’ll be no mishaps." Yi Luowa reached out to hold her hand.

Ai Ni Teng grinned. "Got it, I’ll be careful. But, sis-in-law, isn’t it weird? Just a few days ago, I had my period—how could I be pregnant?"

Yi Luowa froze and looked up at Jimo Shanshan, who was adjusting her IV drip.

Jimo Shanshan smiled subtly and spoke slowly, "You did have it, but it must’ve been very light, right?"

Ai Ni Teng nodded.

Jimo Shanshan continued, "Under normal circumstances, after getting pregnant, a woman won’t have her period. However, a small number of women may experience light vaginal bleeding around the time their period would have been due. This is referred to as ’pregnancy menstruation.’"

"It’s characterized by minimal bleeding, lighter color, fewer days, and is unlike any regular period. It usually happens within the first three months of pregnancy and typically only once. Some rare cases might see it happen two to three times."

Ai Ni Teng clutched her chest in relief. "Scared me for a moment! As long as it’s not something abnormal."

Jimo Shanshan laughed. "It’s not abnormal, but you still need to be cautious. Don’t overwork yourself. At our age, we can’t compare to Fourth Sister-in-law. Look at her energy—rarely have I seen someone so lively after a C-section."

Ai Ni Teng chuckled and nodded. "I’ll just chat for a bit and let her rest."

"She needs to stay awake for now; keep her company a little while longer." Jimo Shanshan patted Ai Ni Teng’s shoulder gently with a smile.
