Chapter 385: Chapter 338: Is the Thief a Kid? (Part 1)_2

"What is she trying to do with all these things?" Yan Zi turned her head to look at Tong Airui.

Tong Airui shrugged. "I’d like to know too. Want me to grab her for you so you can ask her yourself?"

Tong Yao smacked him. "Are you seriously joking with your aunt at a time like this? Since you know where she is, could you just hurry and check it out?"

"She couldn’t be there at all!" Tong Airui had barely finished speaking when his phone rang.

He answered it, switched on the speaker, and moved the phone closer to his mother.

"Fourth Master, we’re sorry. We failed in our duty..."

Before his subordinate could finish, Tong Airui’s voice dropped. "You know where you’re supposed to go, right? I don’t need to say it."

"Fourth Master, we’re heading back to the base right away."

"She’s provoking us outright!" Tong Airui’s thin lips pressed into a firm line. After a moment of thought, he said, "Return to the smaller base instead!"

"Yes, sir!"

Hearing the acknowledgment, Tong Airui hung up and walked out quickly, gripping the banister and shouting down the stairs, "Yuan Hang, come up for a moment."

Yuan Hang rushed upstairs, and Tong Airui leaned close to his ear and gave a few quiet instructions.

Yuan Hang nodded repeatedly and left the Viscount’s estate with several others soon after.

"Aunt, nothing particularly valuable is missing from the house. Let the servants tidy up," Tong Airui said as he returned to the bedroom. "Let’s head back early to avoid worrying Grandma."

Yan Zi sighed. "Alright, let’s go back. The mess here is getting on my nerves."

Duke’s Estate

Madam Jing Ya, who usually retired early, stayed awake tonight. She sat in the hall with her grandson and granddaughter-in-law, and as soon as she saw Long Che and Yan Zi return, she asked anxiously, "Did you lose anything at home?"

Yan Zi pouted. "Nothing really, just a complete mess. It’s irritating to look at."

"As long as nothing’s missing. Back when you lived in Z Country and rarely returned, I never said anything. But now that you’re staying here more often, we should implement some security measures like we do here. If someone enters the courtyard, we should at least hear something."

Mi Xiaotian said, "Mom, the alarm and surveillance system were installed but hadn’t been activated. Who knew something like this would happen? I already instructed the servants to turn the alarm on when I came back."

Madam Jing Ya sighed. "Good thing nothing serious happened. Be more careful in the future. It’s late; everyone should wash up and rest."

Yi Luowa quickly got up to assist her grandmother and, with Prince Charles, helped the elderly lady into her bedroom.

After she came out, Tong Airui took her hand as they followed the others upstairs.

"Are you sure nothing was taken?" Yi Luowa questioned as soon as they entered the room.

"Old Eight’s box of cartoon underwear is missing, along with his gold medal, footprint, baby hairbrush, and some naked photos from when he was a baby," Tong Airui replied, turning to glance at her while mentally counting, "One, two..."

"Haha..." Yi Luowa burst out laughing before he could reach three. "Was this thief a child?"

"Not that young. You know this person too," Tong Airui said as he ruffled her hair. "If everything goes according to plan, we should catch her before sunrise."

Yi Luowa froze. "Who?"

"The girl who blackmailed you for $150,000."

"Her?! Why would she steal those things?" Yi Luowa blinked. "The only explanation is that she has a thing for Old Eight. But they shouldn’t have any connection, right?"

"If she’s the killer, ’You,’ then this makes sense. Old Eight had contact with ’You’ during a mission in Haotian."

"That filthy little girl is ’You’?" Yi Luowa found this hard to believe.

"Just my speculation. Once we catch her, the truth will come out. She’s playing a game of strategy with me; I want to see if she can predict my next move."

Tong Airui cracked his knuckles and looked at Yi Luowa, who was still standing in a daze. "Stop overthinking. By morning, we should know the answer."

Yi Luowa nodded mechanically. "Are you going to shower?"

"Are you?"

"I already did."

"Then get in bed. I’ll take a quick shower and come out."

Yi Luowa was about to offer to grab his pajamas, but before she could, Tong Airui was already in the bathroom.

She pouted, flipped the covers, and crawled into bed.

"That little girl is ’You’? How could a killer risk her life to save a child she didn’t even know? Aren’t killers supposed to be cold-blooded and emotionless? She feels more like a little sister from next door... Ugh, my head hurts, forget it!" Yi Luowa muttered as she rolled around clutching the blanket.

When Tong Airui came out, she was still flailing about on the bed. He couldn’t help but laugh and gave her a playful smack on her behind. "Can’t wait?"

Without turning her head, Yi Luowa immediately shut her eyes. "I’m already asleep."

"Talking in your sleep?" Tong Airui chuckled as he climbed into bed and pulled the blanket from her cocooned figure. "Move closer. I’ll cover you up."

Yi Luowa grudgingly turned over. "Hubby, while you were at Aunt’s house, I talked to Joyina."

Tong Airui tucked the blanket around her and held her in his arms. "What came out of it?"

"Nothing conclusive, but it’s clear Joyina is a master actress! She’s totally Oscar material."

"She likes Third Brother," Tong Airui said nonchalantly, as if he had expected this all along, not even forming it as a question.

Yi Luowa nodded.

Tong Airui smirked.

Yi Luowa tilted her head to look at him. "What are you laughing at?"

"At the fact that Third Brother’s second spring is on its way. Even though he doesn’t feel that way about Joyina yet, he treats her better than any other woman. Remember when he was feuding with Aunt and was switching women daily? Not one of them made it to his bed."

"True," Yi Luowa yawned, covering her mouth. "After you left, Grandma called Uncle and in the end, he said the Ji Mo family accepted the dowry for Shanshan."

"Grandma’s the boss!" Tong Airui chuckled as he glanced down at her, noticing her drooping eyelids. He kissed her lightly on the forehead. "Sleep. What you owe me tonight, make it up to me tomorrow."

"I’ll have my period tomorrow," Yi Luowa giggled softly, snuggling into his arms.

"Periods aren’t eternal. We’ll make it up when your aunt’s visit is over."

Yi Luowa mumbled something in agreement before drifting into steady breathing.

Once he was sure she was sound asleep, Tong Airui gently slipped his arm out and got out of bed. He dressed and made his way up to the third floor.

"I’m not leaving! I’d rather die! Did you forget what the doctor said?" Tong Airui paused outside the study as Joyina’s voice came from Mi Chenshuo’s room.

"Joyina, could that doctor have been bribed?" Mi Chenshuo’s tone was filled with frustration.

"You give me a measly few thousand yuan a month, barely enough to feed Tiger and Leopard. How could I afford to bribe a doctor?"

"The cards you gave to Luowa and Huo Li, they returned them. Plus, your dad deposits money into your account every month. Bribing a doctor shouldn’t even be a challenge for you."

"Then take me to another hospital tomorrow... Mi Chenshuo, I’ve finally figured you out. You’re a cold-blooded animal with zero empathy! Just give me your arm already; I need to sleep!"

"Stop drooling on my arm when you sleep!"

"Who cares about that nonsense when they’re asleep?"

Tong Airui shook his head with a faint smile. Despite Mi Chenshuo’s words, he clearly couldn’t refuse Joyina. Chances were, he’d already given her his arm to use as a pillow.

Listening for a bit longer, Tong Airui eventually pushed open the door to the study and stepped inside. He wanted to check on how things were progressing on Yuan Hang’s side.
