Billionaire's Long Journey of Chasing His Love-Chapter 378 - 333: Hurt a Little Girl (Second Update)
After breakfast, Tong Airui sent Yi Luowa to school. Today, the number of people following Yi Luowa into school was three times higher than usual.
Before leaving, Tong Airui instructed Yi Luowa not to go out alone and to head home immediately after class.
The person they were waiting for would be escorted back today. Once they got answers from him, they wouldn’t be in such a passive position anymore.
After giving her instructions, Tong Airui got into the car.
As soon as Yuan Hang started the engine, Tong Airui’s phone rang.
Tong Airui glanced at the flashing number on the screen, and a sense of foreboding washed over him.
"Speak!"
"Captain, I failed my duties. On the way back, we were ambushed, and the suspect was eliminated."
The veins on Tong Airui’s forehead visibly bulged. A secretive escort being ambushed meant their movements were entirely under surveillance.
"Where did this happen? Did any of our people get injured?"
"The incident occurred near the Haotian border. None of our team was injured; it seems the ambushers weren’t targeting us—just the suspect. Single shot, fatal."
With a deep voice, Tong Airui stated, "Don’t return to Haotian. Head straight back to the camp."
"Understood!"
Tong Airui hung up the subordinate’s call and quickly typed out a brief text message.
The message consisted of only two words: SILENCE!
In no time, Dapeng replied to the text: Got it!
Yuan Hang turned back to look at Tong Airui. "Sir, are we still heading to the camp?"
Tong Airui slightly narrowed his eyes. "Yes. I need to sort out today’s tasks before returning."
This afternoon, Yi Luowa had only one class. After school, she left the classroom with her backpack.
As soon as she stepped out, more than a dozen people immediately surrounded her. Yi Luowa twitched the corner of her mouth. Fine, let them follow. If it could put Tong Airui’s mind at ease, that was all that mattered. What she could do now was simply avoid distracting him.
Five or six cars slowly drove out of the school gate. Yi Luowa glanced at her phone—no missed calls or messages. It seemed Tong Airui was busy and didn’t have time to speak to her.
At the Yingtuo Road intersection, the cars suddenly came to a stop. Yi Luowa and Kou’er simultaneously looked out the window.
"What’s going on?" Kou’er asked through her earpiece, contacting the car ahead.
"A little boy drove an electric tank onto the road and was almost hit by one of our cars."
"Is anyone hurt?" Kou’er’s brows furrowed tightly.
"The child isn’t hurt, but the person who saved him is injured. We’re handling it now."
Kou’er relayed the information to Yi Luowa.
Yi Luowa opened the car door and was about to step out when Kou’er grabbed her arm. "Sis Luowa, where are you going?"
"Someone’s injured. I’m going to check on them." 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞
Kou’er held onto her firmly. "Let me go instead. You’re too conspicuous here!"
Yi Luowa smacked Kou’er’s hand playfully. "You’re way too paranoid right now. Look around—this is a busy road. There’s nowhere for anyone to hide. Even if they wanted to kill me, there’d be no opportunity to act here."
Kou’er took a cautious look at the surroundings.
Yi Luowa chuckled. "Done looking? Relax now, will you? This is a road intersection. If we don’t deal with the situation, the traffic will pile up soon, and more people will gather—that’s when it’ll really get dangerous."
Kou’er thought for a moment and agreed, so she let go and accompanied Yi Luowa out of the car.
A little further ahead, a young girl was sitting on the ground. Her long, dirty dreadlocks were covered in grime. Blood from her torn jeans was staining the fabric a deep red.
A small, overturned tank vehicle was in the middle of the road. A bodyguard nearby was struggling to hold the little boy who had driven the tank.
Yi Luowa walked over quickly, took the child from the bodyguard’s arms, and gently patted his back while soothing him with soft words. The boy unexpectedly stopped crying.
Holding the boy, Yi Luowa turned to the injured girl. "Are you alright? You’re bleeding so much. We should get you to a hospital right away."
The girl glanced up at her. "Do you people even watch where you’re driving? I’m the one who’s hurt! What if the boy had been injured instead?"
Yi Luowa smiled apologetically. "I’m sorry. I’ll make sure they’re more careful in the future."
Kou’er pulled Yi Luowa aside and said with displeasure, "How is this our fault? She can’t even keep an eye on a kid, letting him drive a toy car onto the road like that."
"The boy isn’t mine! Why are you yelling at me?" The girl winced and stood up, gritting her teeth.
Yi Luowa quickly reached out to support her. "Don’t move yet. I’ll have someone help you to the hospital."
The girl shook off her hand angrily. "I’m not going!"
Kou’er was about to speak again, but Yi Luowa shot her a look. Kou’er instantly stepped back. Kou’er, for all her good qualities, had a fiery temper. This was why Yi Luowa didn’t trust her to handle such situations.
"Huzi, help this young lady into the car and take her to the hospital. Erlin, clean up the scene quickly and clear the road. Ming He, look around nearby and check if anyone’s searching for a missing child."
"Madam, aren’t we waiting for the traffic cops?" Huzi hesitated and asked.
"It doesn’t matter whose fault it is. We hit someone, so we’re responsible. Your dashcam recorded everything. You can show it to the traffic cops later."
"Understood." Huzi and the others immediately went to work.
Yi Luowa turned to Kou’er, who pouted. "Don’t try to send me away. I’m not leaving your side for one second."
Yi Luowa looked at her with exasperated amusement. "I’m not asking you to leave. I want you to call the police station and check if anyone has reported a missing child. If not, we’ll take the child to the station ourselves. We can’t just bring him home with us, can we?"
Kou’er grumbled her assent.
"Don’t touch me! I already said I’m not going to the hospital!" The injured girl suddenly exploded again.
Before Huzi could lay a hand on her, she smacked his hand away forcefully.
Huzi was stunned—she sure had a lot of strength!
Seeing his startled expression, the girl exclaimed, "I’m warning you! Don’t touch me again. I’ve learned Iron Sand Palm!"
Huzi helplessly looked toward Yi Luowa.
Yi Luowa gave a wry smile. "Little girl, Brother Huzi isn’t a bad person. Your leg is injured—let him take you to the hospital to get it bandaged."
The girl glared at her. "Hah! Bad people always say they’re good."
Yi Luowa sighed. "Then tell me—what do you want to do? I’ll follow your lead."
The girl’s large eyes darted around mischievously. "Give me some money, and I’ll go to the hospital on my own."
Kou’er, who had just dialed the police, overheard this and stormed over angrily. "Are you trying to scam us?"
"Hello? Please speak." A voice came through Kou’er’s phone.
Kou’er raised the phone to her ear and said loudly, "Officer, hi! We’re on Yingtuo Road with a lost child and a girl attempting a scam."
"Who are you calling a scammer?" The girl wiped her dirty hands across her face angrily and stomped over to Kou’er.
Yi Luowa gave her a reproachful glance. "Watch your tone!"
Kou’er instantly deflated.
Yi Luowa supported the girl and said with a placating smile, "She’s young—don’t mind her. If you don’t want to go to the hospital, that’s fine. I have a first-aid kit in my car. Let me bandage you up, and then you can leave."
The girl flicked her dreadlocks and snorted at Kou’er. "Learn from your master! Otherwise, one day, you won’t even know how you died!"
Kou’er was about to lose her temper when Yi Luowa handed the boy to her. "Hold him for a bit. Keep him calm—do whatever you can to stop him from crying."
Yi Luowa ushered the injured girl into the car, while Kou’er reluctantly followed.
As soon as the girl got in, she began negotiating with Yi Luowa. "Before you bandage my wound, I need to know—are you going to compensate me?"
"I will!" Yi Luowa smiled as she retrieved the medical kit. "We owe you a lot—otherwise, this little boy could have been in serious danger."
The girl stared at her intently. "How much will you give me?"
"Whatever you ask for, I’ll give you." Yi Luowa didn’t look up as she rolled up the girl’s pant leg.
The girl looked down at her, then reached for the torn part of her jeans. With a sharp rip, she tore off the pant leg. "For medical costs and this pair of jeans, give me ten thousand, and we’re even."
"Why don’t you go rob someone instead!" Kou’er snapped from outside the car.
"None of your business! I’m talking to your master!" The girl glared viciously at Kou’er. Seeing the boy in Kou’er’s arms about to cry again, she quickly squeezed out a smile. "Don’t cry, little guy. When I have money, I’ll buy you some candy."
"Does ten thousand even cover that limited-edition pair of jeans?" Yi Luowa looked up at her.
The girl sniffled. "I’ve already worn it once. I’ll give you a discount."
Yi Luowa chuckled. "Well, thank you for your generosity."
"Of course you should thank me. After all, this isn’t the first..." The girl’s voice abruptly trailed off.
Yi Luowa gave her a suspicious look, seeing her gaze fixed out the window. Following her line of sight, she saw Tong Airui’s car speeding toward them.
Before the car even came to a complete stop, Tong Airui jumped out. "Dear, are you alright?"
Yi Luowa smiled. "I’m fine, but we did injure this young girl."
Looking at the dirty little girl, Tong Airui’s mouth twitched slightly with barely concealed distaste. "Get out of the car—let Yuan Hang treat her wound."
The girl turned away, offering Tong Airui the back of her head. "He thinks I’m dirty. Just give me the money and let me go."
"He doesn’t mean that," Yi Luowa explained with a grin. "Brother Yuan Hang has medical training—he’ll take care of it better than I could."
Yi Luowa got out of the car, walked around to Tong Airui’s side, and whispered, "Can you write a check?"
"How much does she want?" Tong Airui furrowed his brow slightly.
"She asked for ten thousand. Give her fifteen thousand instead."
Tong Airui nodded. Just as he was about to return to his car for his checkbook, Yuan Hang climbed into Yi Luowa’s car. As soon as he got in, the girl widened her eyes and slapped him hard across the face.
