Chapter 331: Chapter 299 This Matter Is Not My Responsibility (First Update)

Tong Airui walked up to Yan Zi, placing both hands on her shoulders, and gave an apologetic smile. "Aunt, I can’t tell you where Old Eight has gone, but I can promise you he’ll definitely be safe."

Yan Zi raised her hand and patted Tong Airui’s arm. "With Xuanxuan in your care, I’m at ease. Right now, the one giving me the biggest headache is your third brother..."

Tong Airui gently pressed Yan Zi’s shoulders. "As for my third brother, you don’t need to worry about him either. When the time comes, nothing will be able to stop it. Before meeting Yi Luowa, I used to think I’d wait until I was 30 to handle my personal affairs. But after meeting her, I couldn’t wait to marry her as soon as possible."

"Fourth Uncle is so shy!" Erbao whispered to Dabao.

Dabao nudged his little brother. "Don’t talk nonsense! If Fourth Uncle hears you, he’ll beat you up."

The adults all burst into laughter after hearing the two kids’ comments.

Yan Zi smiled as well. "These two little rascals!"

Seeing Yan Zi in a better mood, everyone quickly changed the topic. It wasn’t until Mi Xiaotian arrived that they finally sat down for dinner.

After dinner, the courtyard lanterns had already been lit, casting a glowing red hue throughout, filling the air with the festive spirit of New Year.

Yi Luowa led Dabao and Erbao as they ran wildly around the courtyard. The two kids shouted that they wanted to catch up to her, but she deliberately toyed with them, running just fast enough to stay ahead, then slowing down a little to wait for them when the distance grew too far.

Tong Airui stood under the veranda, watching the three of them, unable to suppress the smile on his face.

Tong Yao chuckled and said to her son, "How about you invite Yi Luowa’s second uncle and Huo Li over for the New Year?"

Tong Airui nodded. "If they come over, Yi Luowa will feel more at ease."

Tong Yao pursed her lips. "Son, if I ever get into a fight with your wife, whose side will you take?"

Tong Airui’s smile faded as he slowly turned his head toward his mother. "I wouldn’t take anyone’s side. I’d just watch you both fight."

Tong Yao laughed and gave him a light slap. "Heartless boy! Raising you was a waste!"

Tong Airui chuckled back. "Mom, I’m confident you and Yi Luowa would never end up fighting in this lifetime. You see her as a child, even if she makes mistakes, you’d forgive her. And Yi Luowa has long treated you like her own mother. Whether you scold her, yell at her, or even hit her, she wouldn’t hold a grudge."

Tong Yao smiled warmly as she looked at Yi Luowa. "She’s my little bundle of joy. I could never bring myself to scold her. I only asked because I heard Ai Ni mention how You Jia dealt with issues between her and her mother-in-law, so I got curious."

Tong Airui smirked. The same question—his mom asked, and now his wife asked as well. Was this really such an important topic? The long-standing headache of mother-in-law and daughter-in-law relationships seemed completely nonexistent in their family.

"Why don’t you ask my dad and see what he’d say? Or better yet, go ask Ai Nuo and see if he’d side with you or his wife."

"You think I haven’t tried? When I asked your dad, he said he couldn’t even imagine it. He told me to go have an argument with your grandmother first, so he could decide whom to support."

"My dad’s tactic is pretty clever! And what did Ai Nuo say?" Tong Airui asked with a laugh.

"Nuo’er said, if Connie dared to argue with me, he’d give her a slap and send her back to Germany." Tong Yao pursed her lips. "Do you believe him?"

"Whether it’s true or not doesn’t matter, as long as it makes you happy!" Tong Airui said, placing his arm around his mom’s shoulder as he smiled at Yi Luowa and the two kids.

"Let them play for a while longer, then call them back. If it’s up to those kids, Yi Luowa wouldn’t get a wink of sleep tonight." Tong Yao patted her son’s hand. "I’ll head inside to keep your aunt company."

Tong Airui released his hand and said with a smile, "Go ahead."

Just after taking two steps, Tong Yao paused and turned back. "Oh, I nearly forgot to tell you. Joyina and your third brother are coming back first thing in the morning."

Tong Airui raised an eyebrow slightly. "Even if you hadn’t said anything, I could’ve guessed. With Joyina’s personality, her dad certainly wouldn’t be able to handle her."

Tong Yao burst into a grin and hurried through the door.

As Tong Airui noticed Yi Luowa and the two kids running farther away, he ran after them, scooping up Erbao and tucking Dabao under his arm. "No more running! Go inside and watch some cartoons."

"Fourth Uncle, we haven’t played enough yet!" Dabao kicked his little legs furiously, refusing to head back.

Erbao also let out loud cries.

Tong Airui’s face darkened. "Not listening, huh? Then tomorrow, don’t even think about playing with your Aunt Yi!"

Dabao pouted and looked toward Yi Luowa as she walked up.

Yi Luowa pinched his little face with a smile. "Auntie will join you to watch cartoons, and tomorrow, we’ll play again."

"Auntie, you have to keep your word!" Dabao and Erbao exclaimed in unison.

Yi Luowa extended her pinky with a smile. "Let’s make a pinky promise."

After both kids hooked their pinkies with hers, they finally managed to escape Tong Airui’s grasp.
