Chapter 332: Chapter 299 This Matter Is Not My Responsibility (Second Update)

The two little ones held hands and ran back into the hall.

Tong Airui raised his hand and pulled Yi Luowa into his arms. "Tired?"

Yi Luowa shook her head with a smile.

Tong Airui sighed. "I just can’t figure it out, why do all these kids stick to you?"

"Because I’m just a kid too, no generation gap." Yi Luowa furrowed her brows slightly. "Back then, I was the only one at home. I don’t even know how I got through my childhood. All I ever saw every day was Second Uncle sitting in his wheelchair..."

"How about we bring Second Uncle and Huo Li over for the New Year?"

Yi Luowa froze for a moment.

Tong Airui patted her head with a smile. "Mom’s idea."

Upon hearing this, Yi Luowa couldn’t help but laugh. "Then let’s give my Second Uncle a call in a bit. I was still worrying about how I couldn’t go back to accompany him this Spring Festival. Mom really thought of everything."

Tong Airui smiled indulgently. "From now on, let’s bring Second Uncle over every Spring Festival."

Yi Luowa smiled and nodded.

Tong Airui’s lips curved slightly upward. "I’ve got another piece of news for you: tomorrow, Joyina is coming back with Third Brother."

"I already guessed." Yi Luowa grinned. With Joyina’s personality, if she didn’t come back, she’d probably burn down the Beidi Palace.

"That’s exactly what I told Mom too."

"Guess we really are like-minded..."

"Auntie, the cartoon’s started. Why aren’t you here yet?" Erbao poked his little dark head out and shouted.

"Coming!" Yi Luowa responded with a laugh, pulling Tong Airui into the hall.

It was Tong Airui’s first time watching a cartoon with kids, but since his wife was so engrossed, he could only play along out of love.

Lady Jing Ya noticed her grandson starting to get restless and said with a smile, "Rui’er, you’ve had a long day. Why don’t you and Luowa go upstairs to rest? I’ll stay with them."

Tong Airui saw that his wife’s big eyes were still glued to the screen, so he tapped her gently. "Grandma’s talking to you."

Yi Luowa froze, then looked apologetically at Lady Jing Ya. "Grandma, what did you say to me?"

Lady Jing Ya chuckled. "I’ll stay with Dabo and Erbao. You two go upstairs and rest."

"Dabo, Erbao, is it okay if Auntie goes upstairs to rest?" Truthfully, she hadn’t had her fill of the cartoon yet and was hoping the kids would insist she stay. But instead, the two, seeing Tong Airui’s slightly threatening gaze, immediately let her go.

Yi Luowa pouted. "Alright then, after you finish watching, tell me how it ends tomorrow. Whoever narrates it the best, I’ll reward them with an ice cream."

"OK!" Dabo made a gesture, and Erbao followed with a nod.

Tong Airui chuckled, taking Yi Luowa’s hand and leading her upstairs.

Once back in their room, Tong Airui turned on the TV and found the cartoon she’d been watching earlier.

Yi Luowa giggled. "How did you know I was hooked?"

Tong Airui shook his head helplessly. "You didn’t even hear Grandma talking to you and asked the kids to tell you the ending. You think they’ll narrate it in a way that makes sense?"

"Don’t underestimate kids. They’re smart," Yi Luowa teased, giving him a nudge. "Buddy, you’re blocking my view."

"The cartoon’s better-looking than me?" Tong Airui asked, feigning annoyance.

"There’s no comparing you with the cartoon." Yi Luowa didn’t take her eyes off the screen.

Left feeling a bit ignored, Tong Airui sat down beside her and pulled her into his arms. "Let’s talk about something. Since you love kids so much, why don’t we try for one sooner rather than later?"

Yi Luowa looked at him, puzzled. "Didn’t you say we’d wait until I graduated?"

Tong Airui smiled and ruffled her hair. "You’ll be out of school by July. So how about around June or July?"

"But what about my internship?"

"You’ll do it with me. Didn’t we already decide?"

Yi Luowa exaggeratedly gestured to her belly. "And I’ll do it with this big belly?"

"With you gesturing that big, are you planning to give birth to ten?"

"What do you take me for, a pig?" Yi Luowa laughed, giving his thigh a playful slap. "First you didn’t want kids, now you do. When we first got our marriage certificate, I was ready for a baby, but you refused. What’s gotten into you now?"

"Just felt like it." Tong Airui raised a brow slightly. Truthfully, watching her play with Dabo and Erbao earlier made him wonder what it’d be like if she played with their own child.

"Hubby, can we wait a bit longer? Look, in May, Ai Ni is getting married, then there’s Old Seven, and after that probably Old Five. If I’m heavily pregnant, I can’t even crash their wedding nights properly."

"So you don’t want kids just so you can crash wedding nights?"

"Not exactly. There’s just going to be so much to do for the weddings. I should help Mom out, right?"

Tong Airui furrowed his brows slightly. "Have you thought about when we’ll have our own wedding?"

"A wedding is just a formality. We already have the certificate. It’s not a must." Yi Luowa smiled as she looked at him. "We were talking about kids, and now you’re bringing up the wedding?"

"You brought it up." Tong Airui grinned, giving her nose a playful nibble. "If you’re not in a hurry, then we’ll wait. When all their kids are running around the house, we’ll have our baby, since I’m not done playing yet anyway."

Yi Luowa blinked at him. "Can’t you talk properly?"

Imitating her, Tong Airui blinked back. "Aren’t I talking properly to you right now?"

"You’re talking, but why are your hands all over the place?"

At six the next morning, Tong Airui got up early. His days of leaving early and returning late were starting again, though this time the workload wouldn’t be too heavy, so he’d still be able to come home earlier than before.

Yi Luowa, still groggy, watched him slowly put on his clothes and murmured from under the covers, "Catch some sleep on the way."

"Mm, you sleep too." Tong Airui buttoned the last button, leaned down, and kissed her forehead. "I’ll be home early tonight."

"Be careful on the road." Yi Luowa reached up to straighten his collar.

"I know. I’m heading out now." Tong Airui gave her a lingering look before finally leaving the room.

As he came downstairs, Mi Chenshuo and Joyina walked in one after the other.

Tong Airui glanced at them. One had a scowling face, the other a playful grin—what an odd pair.

"Morning, you two."

Joyina waved at him. "Morning, my savior’s husband."

Mi Chenshuo’s mouth twitched. "Why are you up so early?"

"Heading to Shen Ying. I should get there around eight. Are you two joining me for breakfast or going upstairs for some rest?"

"I’m hungry. I’ll eat breakfast with you." Joyina smiled sweetly at him.

"I’m going up to see Mom." With that, Mi Chenshuo headed upstairs.

Joyina pouted and whispered to Tong Airui, "He’s been giving me the cold shoulder the entire way here. I didn’t even do anything to him."

Tong Airui looked down at her. "You held him hostage for so many days. How can you say you didn’t do anything?"

"I treated him well—great food, great drinks. I even fattened him up. Didn’t you notice?"

"Not in the mood to argue with you." Tong Airui bypassed her and entered the dining room.

Joyina followed behind. "You might not be in the mood to argue, but I’m in the mood to talk! These past few days, I’ve been out house-hunting. Can I stay here until I find a place?"

"Not my call." Tong Airui picked up his glass of milk and took a sip.

"Then what are you in charge of?" Joyina asked, puffing her cheeks as she sat across from him.

Tong Airui gave her a sidelong glance. "In my life, I only manage my wife and Shen Ying."

Joyina rolled her eyes dramatically. Well, if this avenue didn’t work out, it didn’t mean she wouldn’t find another way.
