Chapter 286: Chapter 264: What Are You Distorting About Us Now? (Second Update)

Yi Luowa’s heart sank. Although she didn’t like Shiqing, hearing about such a major incident made her feel uneasy.

"Is it serious?"

Tong Airui nodded.

"Have you called Aunt Ni Lu?"

Tong Airui shook his head. Aunt Ni Lu had three children. If it had been either of the other two in such a situation, he would have called, but Shiqing was the one exception; he wouldn’t bother.

Yi Luowa pursed her lips. "If you don’t call, Dad definitely won’t either. Aunt Ni Lu must be devastated."

"Mom can call. Go get ready so we can go eat." Yi Luowa patted his shoulder comfortingly. "Don’t let an irrelevant person ruin your mood."

Yi Luowa, heavy-hearted, packed a couple of clothes for him before following Tong Airui out the door.

In the living room downstairs, the family was abuzz with discussions about Shiqing’s situation. Teng Ai Ni was the most conflicted. For something like this to happen the day before her engagement—it was bound to sour everyone’s mood.

Tong Yao, noticing her son and daughter-in-law coming downstairs, sighed deeply. "Let’s all go have dinner. After eating, we’ll set off early. When we arrive in S Country tonight, your father and I will visit the hospital to see her."

Long Che gave her a glance but said nothing, rising to head straight to the dining room.

The meal was somber. Though Shiqing wasn’t well-loved in this family, her status in S Country was akin to Teng Ai Ni’s standing in this household—a treasured family gem.

It wasn’t that people particularly cared about Shiqing; rather, everyone was worried her incident would overshadow Ai Ni’s engagement.

Long Che ate very little. After putting down his chopsticks, he said to Teng Ai Ni, "Confirm with You Jia again whether the engagement is still on. If it’s not, we won’t bother going."

Teng Ai Ni looked up at him, then put down her chopsticks and walked out of the room. Moments later, she returned. "Dad, You Jia said it’s still on."

Long Che frowned slightly. "Pack your things. We’re leaving."

The plane flew for nearly six hours. At 11 p.m., it landed at S Country’s international airport, where You Jia had already arrived with a convoy waiting outside.

Upon seeing You Jia, Tong Yao asked with concern, "How’s Shiqing?"

You Jia frowned slightly. "The surgery is over, and she’s out of immediate danger. But half of her face might be disfigured."

Tong Yao sighed. "Have they caught the culprit?"

"The culprit committed suicide on the spot. The investigation is still ongoing." You Jia stepped forward to support Tong Yao. "Aunt Yaoyao, it’s been a tough journey for you. Let’s head back first."

Long Che shot a sidelong glance at You Jia’s hand and cleared his throat.

You Jia quickly released his hand and glanced back at Long Che.

Long Che, with an air of indifference, asked, "Your father, dealing with this blow on top of everything else—how’s he holding up?"

Tong Yao’s lips twitched slightly, and she gave him a hard glare.

"We haven’t dared to tell him about Shiqing yet," You Jia replied submissively, his head lowered.

Long Che paused briefly, then took Tong Yao’s hand and said to Teng Ai Ni, "Ni’er, S Country isn’t safe. Once the engagement is done, you’ll come back home with Dad."

Teng Ai Ni wrinkled her nose in dissatisfaction.

Teng Tianxiang chimed in, "Listen to your father!"

Once again, the father-in-law and son-in-law were in complete agreement on a matter regarding Teng Ai Ni.

You Jia gently tugged on Teng Ai Ni’s hand. Teng Ai Ni pursed her lips. "Got it."

"Rui’er, you two can take another car to the palace. Your dad and I will go check on Shiqing," Tong Yao said to Tong Airui from the car door.

Tong Airui nodded.

Yan Zi hesitated briefly, about to say something, when You Jia interjected, "Aunt Yaoyao, my mother specifically asked me to tell you to rest well when you arrive. There’s no need to visit the hospital right away."

"Since Ni Lu said so, we’ll go to the palace first. After the banquet concludes tomorrow, we’ll visit the hospital." Long Che, eager to avoid visiting altogether, dragged Tong Yao into the car as soon as You Jia finished speaking.

Yi Luowa glanced at Long Che with amusement. With a father like him, how could either of his sons turn out well? It’s a good thing the family had Ai Ni—she hadn’t fully inherited his genes.

Noticing her somewhat mischievous smile, Tong Airui rubbed her head vigorously after getting into the car. "What are you scheming about now?"

Yi Luowa frowned slightly. "I’m not scheming anything about you!"

"Better not be!" Tong Airui shot her a warning look.

Yi Luowa pinched his leg hard. "Don’t you dare look at me like that!"

"I might just look at you like that and eat you up!" Tong Airui teased, biting her gently. "We don’t need to concern ourselves with what’s happening here. Mom and Dad will handle it. Once Ai Ni’s engagement is over, we’ll leave."

Yi Luowa pouted. "Aren’t you going to visit Shiqing?"

"Nope!"
