Chapter 283: Chapter 262 I Will Never Talk Back (Third Update)_2

Tong Aino closed her eyes lightly. "It’s nothing, maybe my eyes are just bloodshot."

"Where’s the doctor?" Connie turned her head to look at her mother.

"On the way, coming over now!" Marian pointed to the distance.

Tong Aino vaguely saw a figure walking towards him, his head tilted and he fainted in Connie’s arms. 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶

After examining Tong Aino on the stretcher, the doctor administered an antihistamine injection. "First take a shower, change clothes, then hook up an IV drip."

"Will he be okay?" Connie grabbed the doctor’s arm anxiously and asked.

"It’s quite serious. Once the IV is done, if the allergic reaction subsides, it’ll be fine. If not, he’ll need to go to the hospital."

"You must cure him!" Connie sobbed loudly.

Tong Aino furrowed his brows slightly and reached out to tug at her.

Connie looked at him in surprise. "You’re awake!"

"Woke up because you were yelling. I’m fine. Back in college, I had an allergy once too, even worse than this, but look, I’m still alive and well. Just follow the doctor’s orders, and I’ll be okay."

Everyone escorted Tong Aino to the side hall. In the bathroom, Teng Qian gave his nephew a warm bath, and seeing him regaining some energy, he patted his head. "If you’d figured this out earlier, you wouldn’t have suffered so much!"

Tong Aino pouted. "Haven’t I just realized it? Uncle, look, Connie cares so much about me. Do you think she’s forgiven me?"

Teng Qian glanced at him helplessly, noticing that his gaze was always fixed on one spot. He reached out to test him.

Tong Aino weakly pulled his hand down. "I’m fine. As long as there’s no lotus pollen on me, I’ll recover quickly."

"You’re such an odd one. Rui’er and Ni’er don’t have allergies, why do you?" Teng Qian grabbed the towel and vigorously dried his back.

"That’s because I’m not your sister’s biological child," Tong Aino smiled. "Uncle, sometimes I wonder, do you think I’m just redundant? I have such an excellent older brother, and a younger sister everyone adores. What’s the point of me being in this world?"

Standing outside the door, Connie tightly covered her mouth, afraid that she might cry out loud. After a long while, she finally managed to control her emotions. She slapped the doorframe forcefully and shouted loudly, "If you weren’t in this world, what would I do?!"

"Uncle, Connie’s forgiven me!" Tong Aino got so excited he stood up abruptly, but then tragedy struck—his legs gave way and he fell back down.

Teng Qian quickly pulled him out of the water. "What are you so excited about? If you get hurt, your dad will lecture me again."

"Uncle, hand me the bathrobe. I don’t want to wash anymore, I need to go see Connie."

"Properly finish washing, I’ll wait for you outside." Connie hurriedly chimed in, worried he wouldn’t wash thoroughly.

Teng Qian gave him another rub-down with the towel before helping him out of the bathroom.

The doctor quickly hooked Tong Aino up to an IV drip. Connie sat by the bedside, tightly holding his hand. The two of them stared at each other with tearful eyes.

The elders, seeing this scene, smiled helplessly and all left the room.

"I’ll have them dig up all the lotus flowers in the pond later," Connie sniffled as she spoke.

"There’s no need for that. I don’t live here, and even if I visit occasionally, I can just stay away from them," Tong Aino said with a smile as he squeezed her hand.

Connie pouted and glared at him. "Occasionally?"

"No, I meant, before we’re married I’ll visit frequently. After we’re married, I’ll come back regularly."

Connie pursed her lips. "Did I say I want to marry you?"

Tong Aino pouted. "The lotus flowers haven’t been removed yet, have they?"

"What are you trying to do?!"

"I’ll jump back in again. This time, if I dive in, I won’t come back up. I’ll just die outright." Tong Aino gently rubbed her hand with his thumb. "Connie, stop torturing me, will you? These past few days when you ignored me, I’ve been restless, sleepless night after night. Before you fell into the water, I still had a hint of arrogance, unable to say those three words—I love you. But the moment you fell, I realized your importance in my heart. I’m afraid of losing you. If one day I had to choose between our lives, I’d rather be the one to die."

"I don’t want you to die! If that day ever comes, I’ll use my life in exchange for yours!" Connie leaned forward and hugged him, sobbing uncontrollably.

Tong Aino gently stroked the top of her head and comforted her tenderly, "Don’t cry. Neither of us will die. We’ll hold each other’s hand and celebrate our golden anniversary, our diamond anniversary."

"Yeah. But you have to get better quickly, or else I wouldn’t know how to explain this to your parents." Connie wiped her nose and sat up. "When I came back this time, I was genuinely determined to sever ties with you. So much so that I didn’t even care about your aunt and uncle’s feelings. Leaving like that, surely they’d be upset with me. And now that something’s happened to you, I won’t be able to face them at all."

"They like you. My family likes you. Before coming here, they even ordered me to bring you back. Otherwise, they’d strip me of my household registration."

Tong Aino said seriously, which made Connie laugh. "The one who said they’d strip your household registration must’ve been Marian, right?"

"How’d you guess?"

Connie laughed, "I just knew. Actually, I really like Marian. She’s genuine, speaks her mind, and when she gives you advice, it feels so warm. She’s more likable than me..."

"Different people have different preferences. I just like your type!" Tong Aino smiled. "Don’t overthink it. My mom isn’t that kind of person. She won’t get mad at you. To her, we’re just kids—when we make mistakes, as long as it’s not outrageous, she’ll forgive us."

"Still, there’s a little bit of worry," Connie said, biting her lip nervously as she looked at him.

"Isn’t there me? If there’s a mistake, I’ll take the blame. It’s all my fault anyway." Tong Aino glanced at the time. "When this bottle finishes, I’ll call my mom."

Connie looked at him apprehensively. "Did you know your aunt gave me money?"

Tong Aino nodded.

Connie asked cautiously, "Do you think she wants me gone?"

Tong Aino angrily slapped her arm. "Are you stupid?! Why would my mom want you gone? That money was your internship salary. She doesn’t want you to work for free all this time."

Connie puffed her cheeks angrily. "I am stupid. Otherwise, why would I like you for so many years? What kind of princess gets scolded by a man every day like a dog?"

Tong Aino teased, "You’re a little she-dog, and I’m a little he-dog. Is that good enough for you? From now on, you can scold me every day, and I promise I won’t talk back."

Connie glared at him, "You’re shameless! What about the money your aunt gave me? I’ve only interned for a few days, and she gave me tens of thousands?"

"A princess working is no small matter! If she didn’t pay you a high salary, wouldn’t that be unreasonable? Just accept it! Didn’t you see how my mom and dad gave my sister-in-law billions? When we get married, we definitely won’t receive less than that." Tong Aino said as he grabbed his phone. "I have to ask my mom now, how much she’ll give you for the wedding. It can’t be less than what my sister-in-law received."

Connie snatched the phone from him. "What are you, a kid? We’re not even at the marriage stage yet, why would you ask something like that? Besides, those amounts are up to the elders’ discretion, not something you can inquire about."

"I’m doing this for you." Tong Aino pointed at her. "You really are silly. I’m trying to win you some face, and you went and took my phone away."

Connie looked at him and couldn’t help but laugh. Whether he was joking or serious, his words made her heart feel warm. Because for once, he knew how to stand up for her.
