Beyond the Bloodline-Chapter 78: Chamber of Confinement
"I know that, but do we have a choice now? My Technique is good as trapping targets, it’d be the best replacement for the barrier that’s clearly not useful anymore."
Navarre alternated his gaze between Anda and the Walkie Talkie floating next to the man as he spoke, knowing fully well that Dornik was listening in on this conversation.
[Take a company of Third-Class Combatants along with you for protection.]
The Commander in Chief’s voice carried the kind of reply that Navarre wanted to hear, thanking the man before turning around and dashing straight towards the city centre.
Immediately he landed, a loud cracking sound rang out, followed by the destruction of the two barriers around Fusevale, along with the restoration of their Magi-tech networks and the removal of the teleportation restriction.
In the next few seconds, some of the Dragon Army’s non-Estean allies rushed into Fusevale, joining the dragons to attack the Liberation Front’s combatants.
Those few seconds, were enough for Navarre to gather as much energy as he needed before stomping his foot on the ground and sending the energy into the earth.
"Bounded Field!"
His voice resonated through the air, past the hundred-man company that surrounded him on all sides, along with the omnidirectional wave of energy that reached Fusevale’s borders in less than a minute.
"Chamber of Confinement!"
Shimmering threads of universal law energy manifested, forming a complex lattice that danced around Navarre, rapidly extending outward and enveloping the entirety of Fusevale in its radiant embrace.
The space within the boundary lines shifted slightly, separating itself from the outside world like it was a separate realm.
Navarre’s Bounded field had two key features; one of which was its impeccable sealing, courtesy of his mastery of the Laws of Space and Sealing.
The second was a Limitation Imposition; where he could impose limitations on the movements of those he designated as ’enemies’, affecting their speed and manoeuvrability. Flight was also not allowed unless he permitted it.
However, right now, this second feature was nothing more than a waste of energy as Navarre’s Bounded Field was one that demanded a substantial amount of energy, even more so when the existences he was confining multiple Legendries who were actively trying to escape.
So, he removed that second feature and redirected the energy towards maintaining the barrier for as long as possible.
Little did he know that at this time, a certain Hybrid was at one of the edges of the Field, pressing his hand against the elastic barrier walls.
"This guy...he’s actually good!"
Jamie had genuine shock etched on his face as he had never expected to find a rare gem in such a place.
"It’s good...?"
Miranda was more confused as she could not exactly tell what was so different about it that Jamie had sensed, and she honestly could not really care less.
"Are you planning to take him in?"
This was not the first time Jamie had spotted a rare talent in some world he and Miranda went adventuring in, and it usually ended with Jamie taking the person along with him as he left the planet.
Most of said people ended up being Jamie’s subordinates who were currently handling his many endeavours across the galaxy, with a good number of them eagerly awaiting the Hybrid’s visit now that he had been reawakened.
Hence why Miranda had asked if he was planning to take Navarre in.
"I’m considering it. He’s the only one really piquing my attention right now."
Though he was watching Trisgella’s battle earlier, Jamie failed to see or notice anything new to him, so it did not tickle his curiosity any further.
The minute that the barrier was down for allowed some dragons to escape and some reinforcements from the smaller outposts surrounding Fusevale to come in.
But thanks to the second barrier that Anda had created, they were not going to be able to leave Ridrea.
When Navarre’s barrier came down, the area was sealed once more and all those that were within were stuck inside, including Trisgella and the dragon he was fighting.
In the blink of an eye, an hour went by, and the battles still raged on. The tug of war for supremacy between the two Second’s in the air still continued, even after multiple breaks in between.
Trisgella even had to up his game as other dragons ascended above the clouds to aid his opponent.
On the ground, nothing seemed to be decided, with the scales tipping every few minutes.
Just when you’d think the Liberation Front is on the offensive, the Dragons suddenly surge with newfound momentum and push them back.
As for Jamie, he had his sights set on where Navarre was, along with the formerly hundred, now seventy-man company that surrounded him for protection.
"I see. Things are as I thought. Even though he continuously uses energy recovery items, he still cannot match up to the Bounded Field’s cost.
Even more so as the recovery items lose efficiency after continuous use."
Jamie spoke with his palm held up, a cuboid energy construct with a similar circuit network as Navarre’s Bounded Field floating around in his palm.
"Still, he’s doing well, considering he has been blocking multiple Legendries from escaping its effective range."
The man placed his hand on his chin and thought about it for a few moments before coming to a decision.
"Time to enter the fray."
Turning to Miranda, he asked.
"You coming with me?"
"Yeah. I haven’t fought since I restricted my realm. A battle is needed so I can gauge myself properly."
"All right then, shall we?"
Jamie held out his hand towards Miranda who only shook her head with a light sigh and accepted it.
"We shall."
With those two words, the couple disappeared from the top of the building they were on.
◇ ◇ ◇
"Divine Smite!"
That shout marked the activation of a skill, channelling a bright white light into the sword of the winged Zotovian, Trisgella.
Flapping his bloodstained wings, he dashed through the air and spun his body around, delivering a full-powered slash with all his might behind it. 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖
The energy of the universal law of light was loaded into the shining blade, heading straight for his red-scaled opponent.
In response, the dragon let out a loud roar that shook the sky, invoking the power contained within his scales and forming a protective barrier of dragon-scale-like energy around his body.
**BOOOMMM!!!
Trisgella’s blade collided with this barrier in a radiant explosion of light and power, blasting all nearby creatures away with its shockwaves.
However, much to the Flugel’s dismay, his sword failed to penetrate the dragon’s barrier. What’s more, the dragon absorbed the radiant damage and siphoned it into the protective scales, making them glow with intense brightness.
He then proceeded to coat his claws with the scale-like barrier, before infusing his own energy into the mix and striking towards Trisgella.
Caught off guard, Trisgella was struck by a mixture of his own energy and the dragon’s power, creating another airborne spectacle of shockwaves that reached the ground, flattening portions of the city and tossing debris into the air.
Following up, the dragon gathered energy into his maw and released it as a crimson beam of flames that burned through the air, but unlike before, Trisgella was able to react to this.
The Flugel summoned his shield and activated his unique skill, redirecting the breath to a random direction in the sky, before infusing his sword with aura and striking out towards the dragon once more.
Sword and claws clashed with enough power to distort the surrounding air.
But this dragon didn’t come into this fight with just his claws.
Five Four ringed magic circles manifested in a circle around Trisgella, each one brimming with potent magic and law energies.
Dragons were known to be very proficient at magic, and this one was no different. Though he needed a few seconds of casting time, his spell deployment was ridiculously fast.
The first magic circle shot out a searing stream of fire, creating a torrent of flames that threatened to engulf Trisgella.
"Shit! Ward!!"
The Flugel quickly channelled his light law energy into his shield, extending its size and creating a protective barrier that reduced the damage from the spell.
Even so, the flames still burned him slightly, and some of his feathers that had direct contact with them were instantly turned to ashes.
Pain racked his body as he blocked it, the kind of pain the dragon decided to give him a double dose of.
[GROOOARRRRR!!!!]
He let out a deafening roar, the second magic circle floating right under his jaw activating as his roar was transformed into a concussive shockwave of sound that shattered even the defensive magic of other Third-Class combatants on the ground.
Many Liberation Front soldiers were disoriented by the roar, and some even had pieces of collapsed structures collapse onto them in this state.
As for Trisgella, he activated his unique skill once more, protecting himself from both the still-burning flames and the shockwave in one go, but this came at the cost of the skill’s barrier being shattered.
’No way that fire spell had more power than his initial breath!’
