Beyond the Bloodline-Chapter 77: Threat to the Barriers.
[Is she alone?]
Normally, when he asked this, he was usually met with a ’Yes’ in reply. Even so, he still asked because of his belief that anything could change at any time.
But today, the reply he received was the inverse.
"No. She’s with someone else. A man; he has silver hair just like hers and blue eyes."
Dornik skimmed through all the information he had on the woman, both the ones he uncovered himself and what his ’sponsors’ had told him and came up with nothing about anyone who fit the description Anda gave.
’Perhaps one of her subordinates here?’
Anda also did not know who this person was, so he silently waited for Dornik’s reply whilst deciding to shift his gaze and make it seem like he was oblivious to her presence here.
But the instant he thought that, those odd-coloured eyes that were focused on the silver-haired man suddenly turned towards him.
"..."
Anda did not react. He could not.
The man felt as if he was about to be devoured whole.
In all the centuries of his life, and all the battles he had gone through to reach his current level of 920, he had never felt as much fear as he did in that moment their gazes met.
He knew that the person he was looking at was one who had reduced her power below Level 1000 so as to conform with their world’s laws, but even so, her presence was still overwhelming, more so than that of the other Level 1000s he had met before.
[Continue the mission and have everyone steer clear of the sector she’s in.]
"But what if I decide to go to another Sector?"
["?!"]
Both Dornik and Anda were shocked at the voice that replied. Dornik because that was certainly not who he expected to reply, and Anda because despite the fact that he could now feel her presence right behind him, he could still see the woman seated on the roof of a building with his two eyes.
It was as if she was in two places at once.
The walkie-talkie silently floated into the palm of the woman, the Second Special Grade Threat of their world.
"Hello, Dornik. Been a while, hasn’t it?"
[...Indeed, it has, Lady Scott.]
Dornik swallowed his words and responded perfunctorily, momentarily considering if he should move to Ridrea himself.
"You sound quite stiff. Sure, you feeling okay?"
She sounded genuinely concerned for his well-being, but Dornik didn’t buy it for even a second.
"I can understand that handling a Revolutionary Force is quite a lot of work, but still, you should take care of yourself, okay?"
And now she just sounded like an adult talking to a child, but still, Dornik remained silent, waiting for her to state her intentions.
"Anyway, you guys can carry on with whatever it is you have planned. I would try my best not to interfere with anything besides my target.
So, it’d be best for you not to make any move on the Lieutenant as well.
That’s all, bye. I’ll talk to you later."
She tossed the walkie-talkie back to Anda after ending her statement with words that Dornik couldn’t help but dread.
Couldn’t blame the man though. The last time she told him she’d ’Talk to him later’, it was at the end of the Liberation Front’s internal strife a century ago, to inform him that she had just annexed a part of the organisation and made it her own.
◇ ◇ ◇
"What was that about?"
"I went to say hello to someone."
Miranda replied as she took her seat beside Jamie who was watching the battle occurring in front of them with a bucket of popcorn in his hands.
"Who?"
"The leader of the Liberation Front."
"That so..."
The man quickly lost interest and went back to watching Trisgella’s fight as he munched on his popcorn. Miranda dipped her hand into the bucket and tossed a bunch of the snack into her mouth before saying.
"If we want to meet the Zotovian Race King, it’d be through him so we have to meet the guy later."
"kay...huh?"
Jamie snapped out of his absent-minded state a moment after he replied, turning his gaze to an obscure corner of the city where he had sensed subtle spatial activity.
It was very minute, hundreds of kilometres away from him and very easy for anyone to miss, especially as the city was currently a battlefield, but for Jamie it was not.
Given that Jamie’s spatial Perception was large enough for him to span Fusevale’s 25km Radius (approximately 1964.5 km^2), and with how attuned to the attribute he was, no spatial activity of any kind could escape his notice.
As for why this one, in particular, caught his attention, it was because it was coming from one of the Sovereign Realm Dragons whom he had sensed earlier that did not join the battle.
Said dragon was messing around with the barrier that Trisgella had put up and from the knowledge law energy Jamie could sense along with it, he was most likely trying to analyse and deactivate it.
"And he’s succeeding..."
Miranda muttered lightly as she also noticed this, sighing softly before turning her gaze towards Anda’s direction.
"Mira."
"Hmm? Whatsup?"
"Today. I’m going to become a Sovereign once more."
Jamie spoke as he tossed the last of his popcorn into his mouth, incinerating the now-empty bucket while Miranda used her aura to scan Jamie’s body all over.
Though the man had just recovered his Superior Legendary power a few days earlier, his existential aspects were already stable and there would be no problems for him to go higher.
"How are you going to do so? Your Law Energy Crystal?"
"Nahh. I’d go the orthodox levelling up method."
He replied whilst cleaning his hand, but before he could continue, there was a sudden surge of spatial energy that no universal law energy user present could miss.
The semi-transparent Barrie around Fusevale began flickering dangerously, and despite the fact that the barrier generator was in Anda’s possession, the man could not do anything about it.
Eerie distortions washed over the barrier’s surface, making it shimmer and flicker as though it tethered on the verge of collapse.
All the Liberation Front’s Second-Class Combatants instantly figured out what was happening, their gazes turning towards Anda, however, even the Transcendent was at a loss as he could do nothing about the situation.
He tried activating the backup barrier generator, but given that both generators used the same spatial principles, the dragon who had been concealing himself to analyse it with his unique skill the barrier had no problems in destabilising the second one as well.
Immediately he noticed the destabilising barrier, the dragon fighting Trisgella quickly gave the order for some dragons to move out and attempt to brute force their way through the barrier.
He also ordered some of the Third Grade Dragons (TGs) to go over to the one who was destabilising the barrier and act as protective shields to stop the Liberation Front soldiers from distracting him.
The members of the Corps dedicated to preventing the dragons from escaping who were assigned to Fusevale took up arms to do their job, but most of them were Third- and Fourth-Class combatants.
Faced with an S-SG threat-level dragon trying to escape, there was little they could do without reducing the combatants who were to handle the other dragons.
"if this keeps up, one of them might actually break the encirclement."
The Second-Class Combatant, Navarre, whose role was to support Trisgella if necessary muttered as he studied the barrier and sensed its integrity reducing by the second.
What’s more, was that some of the Dragon Army’s allies were outside the barrier, attacking it and trying to break in as the dragons inside were trying to break out.
He thought about the situation, scanning the state of the battlefield and then taking a deep breath before announcing.
"I’m taking action. The barrier would not last much longer and we cannot let even one of the dragons slip away."
"Taking action? What do you want to do?"
In response to the question that the Third-Class combatant nearby asked, the man replied. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎
"I’d use my Bounded Field to trap them in."
"?!"
"What?"
His words brought surprise to both the person he replied to, and Anda who had temporarily descended to handle something else.
Navarre turned towards Anda with his gaze resolute as he continued.
"My Bounded Field is special. That Dragon would not be able to destabilize it like he’s doing to the barrier."
"Pardon me, Lord Navarre. But you don’t have as much energy as Lord Trisgella who can compete with those lizards.
There are also other S-SGs nearby, if any of them is to get to you after you are exhausted from deploying on the Bounded Field, or worst-case scenario, you receive backlash from it being broken, then even the TGs can take you out if they get to you."
