Beyond the Bloodline-Chapter 61: Gravitational Singularity of Destruction[Bonus - ]
Five Seconds.
An exceedingly short time, but long enough for both Jamie and Miranda to realise that something was up with the male Hybrid’s regeneration.
*BZZTT!!!
Jamie’s pivoted on his foot and spun around 180 degrees.
In that same movement, the ambient space, gravity and destruction universal law energies were drawn towards him, swirling around his entire right arm.
Tendrils of purple, blue and red lightning snaked across his hand, condensing in front of his palm as an orb of black-coloured energy that seemed to suck everything inside it, even light.
The spacetime fabric around Jamie began trembling lightly as the Hybrid completed his rotation.
All this happened in the span of the Sixth second.
’Gravitational Singularity of Destruction.’
This was not a technique Jamie himself had created, but something that had been taught to him by someone he met whilst he was astral projecting during his slumber, sometime in the 50th General Calendar.
It wasn’t even complete, as the original technique had time laws infused in it.
But nevertheless, Jamie liked it simply because of its ridiculous destructive potential.
Jamie unleashed this gravitational singularity in the direction of the ’Old Woman’ who had just shot him with a Railgun.
Naturally, she tried to dodge.
But the gravitational pull of the technique made that a nigh impossible feat.
The spacetime along the movement path of the orb broke down catastrophically, as it sucked in and destroyed everything within a short range of it.
The further it moved away from Jamie, the larger it became and the wider the range of destruction expanded.
***KAABOOOMM-WHOOSH!!-VUP!
It only took an instant.
When Jamie launched the technique in the Sixth Second, there was a mountain behind the estate in front of him.
By the Seventh, however, said mountain did not exist anymore.
The singularity carved through it in milliseconds, there was a massive explosion that consumed the rest of the mountain when the destruction law energy ignited, space ruptured, and everything was sucked into it in an instant.
All that was left were a few small rocks, dust and dirt swirling in the air due to the distorted gravity.
Everything from house 10A to the 5000-metre-tall mountain behind them had vanished, leaving a couple hundred-metre-deep crater in the ground.
"Jay!"
Miranda came over with a worried expression on her face, but Jamie only silently raised a hand to stop her.
The man took a deep breath and then, he regained his calm.
If it was the younger Jamie who had believed that he was invincible as a Hybrid and could not be defeated by anything, he would have been panicking quite a bit now.
But the current Jamie was far more mature and could handle the situation calmly.
Looking at the hole in his chest, Jamie activated his pseudo-authority of knowledge and covered it with knowledge law energy.
"As I thought..."
He removed a residual trace of the external energy that came from the railgun’s bullet, but even so, his regeneration still didn’t kick in.
Miranda looked at the residues Jamie had expelled from his body, her eyes narrowing deeply as she identified the things that constituted its makeup.
"Slayer race factors."
"Indeed. Slayer race factors, engineered to target only the regenerative aspect.
The damage it deals isn’t that much, but the anti-regeneration effect is very potent."
Leaving aside how the entire forest beyond where Miranda was had been turned into a sea of flames by this ’not much’ damage, Jamie used spatial isolation to contain the residues before tossing them into a small wormhole that opened up in front of his hand.
He then turned to Miranda who had her hand behind her back and asked.
"You hit that thing with your hand, were you hurt?"
"Nothing much, just a few burns."
The current Miranda had reduced herself to the level of an Inferior Transcendent, so she received as much damage as an inferior transcendent would in this situation.
But she didn’t care about a few burns that were going to heal in a couple of hours, and instead focused on Jamie’s more serious injury.
Though she had seen him injured more times than she could count, mainly because of his tendency to mess around with his opponents and sometimes break their spirits with his ridiculous healing capabilities, it wasn’t something she could ever get used to.
[Lady Miranda?! My Lady!!]
In her annoyance, she accidentally squeezed her hand tighter and the smartphone in her hand was squashed to pieces.
"Ah!"
Quickly realising how bad that was, she immediately pulled in the energies of the law of time and swirled it around the phone.
Like a movie being rewound, the squashed pieces melded back together and the phone was as good as the day it was bought; which by the way, was today.
"You picked up time laws?"
"My Authority in it is low so it’s only good for small things like this."
She held up the phone and told the person on the other end of the line to be silent for a moment, before putting them on hold and returning her attention to Jamie.
The man had his fingers held up, pulling in strings of life law energy around his thumb and his pinkie finger on his right hand.
’For the first time in so long, I’m actually using a healing technique on myself.’
He snapped his fingers and the gathered life energy surged towards the hole in his chest, melding into it.
His wound which had refused to regenerate, now began healing slowly, but Jamie was quite irritated as the speed was so slow.
"Tsk...damn slayer factors. It’d take some time for this to heal.
But in that time..."
Jamie turned his attention toward the crater behind him, cracking the fingers on his hands as he spoke.
"...I’d be handling this bitch."
The instant Miranda heard his words, she quickly realised something.
’Ah, he’s pissed.’
Considering Jamie’s nonchalant personality and his devil-may-care attitude, one would have problems understanding what his breaking point was and figuring out when he was angry.
But for Miranda, she could detect these subtle changes in his demeanour with ease, from his words to his body language and his facial expressions.
Jamie took a step that spanned the distance between him and the crater of destruction he had created, reaching his target who was on the floor, beaten, battered and bleeding.
He grabbed the neck of the ’old woman’ and pulled her up from the pool of her own blood, before tilting his head to the side and asking.
"Law of Trickery? Concealment? Subterfuge?" 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺
Whatever was preventing Jamie from seeing through the true nature of the ’Old Woman’ was removed, and he could now sense her for what she really was.
"Or was it a combination of all three? Whatever it was, it was quite good considering I didn’t notice a thing despite how close to you I was."
Jamie tightened his hold on her neck and with the sound of something breaking, her transformation was unravelled.
Her appearance returned to her original one, that of a young red-haired woman, with red eyes and yellow slit pupils.
"A fucking Red Dragon."
The Hybrid’s lips twisted into an evil grin as he spoke, but his brows suddenly raised as he turned to the side and sighed.
"You went ahead and did something that pulled attention towards us now."
Jamie casually ignored the fact that between the railgun shot and the technique he used, his technique was what attracted attention the most—he made a whole mountain disappear, after all.
Leaving it to Miranda to handle the nuisances, he returned his gaze to the wounded dragon in his grip, the light of remembrance flashing through his eyes.
"You...I remember you.
That day, you were the one who screamed so much like a bitch and begged me to kill you."
"!!"
His words seemed to have struck a nerve and the dragon finally showed a reaction, rage burning in her eyes as she held out her left hand, creating a blade of aura around it and moving It to slice off Jamie’s hand holding her neck.
However, the Hybrid let go of her faster than the blade could reach him, allowing it to pass, before throwing a punch straight toward her face.
Blue flames and lightning merged in his fist in a potent blend, scoring a straight hit to her face. Flames erupted and engulfed her head in an inferno, with the lightning following in the next instant, crackling through the flames in a blinding flash.
The collision of the two elemental forces, along with Jamie’s default spatial influence triggered a spatial distortion in the air, unleashing a shockwave of devastating energy that knocked the dragon back with blood spraying around.
As he watched the dragon’s body hurtling through the air, Jamie felt a massive barrier being conjured above the area, preventing external influences from reaching where they were.
’As always, Miranda knows what I want without me having to say it.’
