Beyond the Bloodline-Chapter 209: Angry Sword
"Lady Lapis... please, that’s enough. Any more would be dangerous... for you."
Lapis’ royal-blue eyes narrowed in deep displeasure. The glowing authority in her sword flared dangerously and she spoke.
|How dare you? |
Her voice was a hiss and her glare pinned the man in place, amplifying the soul strain he was feeling. The moonlight in her blade pulsed as if responding to her fury, ready to unleash its mistress’ wrath upon him.
But before she could scold the man further for daring to interfere in the spar, Jamie calmly pulled back his sword.
The Galaxy Sword, now no longer restrained by the man’s grip, floated gently into the air, its cosmic mist still swirling serenely.
Exhaling a soft sigh, Jamie walked forward and placed his hand on the old man’s shoulder.
"You have a good subordinate, Lapis. Cherish him well."
Jamie spoke with a soft smile and tapped his hand on the man’s shoulder, sending ether from his palm.
The cracks running through the man’s arm began to heal, the imminent disintegration halting as the energy mended the damage. The aged man’s expression softened with relief as his arm stabilized, saved from being erased from existence by the Weapon Authority of Jamie’s sword—Dimensional Severing.
Jamie turned his back to him, the Galaxy Sword floating behind him like a sentinel and seeing this, Lapis, still frowning, dismissed her moonlight blade with a wave of her hand.
The brilliant light dissipated, melting into the night air until only a faint glow of moonlight lingered where the sword had been.
"Leave."
She ordered the old man, her voice calm but tinged with unspoken disappointment. The man bowed his head, offering no further words, and quickly left the area, leaving Jamie and Lapis alone once again.
Jamie smiled gently as he approached Lapis.
"Shall we continue, or do you think he’s right?"
Lapis sighed and shook her head, her fiery gaze cooling as she looked toward the horizon.
"Perhaps we’ve done enough damage for one day."
The entire continent was already tethering on the verge of collapse, so they’d done more than enough damage for an entire lifetime.
Hearing her, Jamie shrugged nonchalantly, but internally he was a bit relieved as he did not want to continue any further.
Right now, his current strength was on the level of a Junior Vampire Lord, and that was only because of his nonstandard nature that made him stronger than normal.
Against an ’Empress’ he wouldn’t win.
He’d best Lapis if it was a battle of skill, but towards the end, they’d started using more than just skill.
Lapis was about to question why Jamie had come to this galaxy to kill off low-level monsters in the Danger Zone when, suddenly, the Galaxy Sword hovering behind him shifted of its own accord.
Without warning, the blade sliced through the air, not with its edge, but the flat side, smacking Jamie square in the back of the head. The impact sent him tumbling forward, face-first into the ground.
"..."
For a solid ten seconds, silence hung over the scene. Then, Jamie’s laughter erupted, echoing across the desolate landscape.
His mirth only seemed to rile the sword further. Twitching as though frustrated, it began to whack him again—eleven times in total, one hit for every thousand years he had been asleep.
But instead of showing any remorse, Jamie’s laughter deepened, the sound of it loud and carefree.
Miranda wasn’t the only one who was pissed at Jamie’s sudden slumber, his sword was too!
Unlike Miranda, who could at least roam freely, the sword had been trapped in Jamie’s subspace for centuries, rendered dormant by necessity.
If it hadn’t placed its consciousness into a deep sleep, it would’ve gone crazy, and a crazy Cosmic weapon was NOT something this or any Universe needed.
Jamie pushed himself up, dusting off his clothes with a grin still plastered across his face. But before he could fully regain his footing, the sword delivered one more firm smack to the back of his head, sending him crashing down again.
"Still pissed, I see, hahaha..."
Jamie chuckled as he stood up, brushing the dirt from his suit. His eyes gleamed with amusement, entirely unbothered by the sword’s tantrum.
Lapis had no words for what she had just witnessed.
The sheer personality—no, the ego—emanating from the Galaxy Sword was overwhelming, almost human in its intensity.
Watching it express its anger like a person gave her the distinct impression that there was a living being trapped within the weapon.
But she knew that this sword, for all its emotion, was not inhabited by a person.
And somehow, that made it even more remarkable.
Jamie looked down at his now dusty suit and used magic to clean it up with the same casual air one might have after a light stumble, his laughter still lingering in the air.
He then glanced at Lapis, a faint grin still tugging at the corner of his lips.
"So, what was it you wanted to ask?"
He asked in an utterly nonchalant tone and Lapis blinked, her mind still trying to wrap itself around the bizarre scene she had just witnessed.
’Isn’t he bothered by this?’
She thought, eyeing the Galaxy Sword hovering silently behind him as if it hadn’t just launched a full-blown assault on its wielder. The blade’s irritation was palpable—its consciousness roiling with the energy of a weapon long-simmering in resentment.
’Shouldn’t Sir Jamie at least be a little concerned?’
"You... don’t mind that your sword is angry at you?"
Lapis finally asked, still incredulous and Jamie chuckled, his laughter a light, carefree sound that contrasted sharply with the sheer annoyance radiating from the sentient blade.
"Nah, it’s just throwing a little tantrum. I was asleep for a few millennia; it’ll get over it."
His words made the sword whack him one more time before disappearing, but Jamie’s amused smile didn’t disappear as he asked Lapis.
"Now, what were you saying? Go on."
Lapis hesitated for a moment, skepticism etched across her features. But she knew Jamie too well to be surprised by his easy-going attitude. With a sigh, she pushed past her doubts and asked with a voice edged with curiosity.
"Alright... What exactly is your goal here?
You’ve been asleep for so long. Coming all the way to this galaxy to take on low-level monsters seems a bit... beneath you."
She studied his expression closely, hoping for some deeper insight into his reasons.
Ever since becoming a Half Deity, Jamie had regained his capability to prevent Higher Existences from perceiving his true Existence Realm, so Lapis could not know he had lost his power. The only Deities privy to this fact were Terrion from Zotov and Denise.
Terrion wouldn’t dare say a word, or he along with all of Zotov would turn to purple smoke in space, and Denise wasn’t crazy enough to say anything either.
And though Jamie was close with Lapis as she was one of his students, he wasn’t going to tell her about his power loss.
He saw no reason to.
So instead, he simply informed her of the second reason why he came to Pinecone.
"I wanted to check out the Amphitheatre of Eternity."
Just like Jamie expected, Lapis’ expression fell at the mention of that place. The Amphitheatre itself had no bad memories tied to it, but that wasn’t the case for the people involved in its creation.
One name, in particular, surfaced in her mind—Cassiel Lidhafy.
Cassiel was a former disciple of Jamie’s, the greatest Inventor the Zanerth Universe had ever seen, surpassing even the Witch of Chaos, Angela in the art of Creation Manipulation.
The Law of Creation was an even harder law to comprehend than its opposing law of destruction, and the saying ’It’s harder to Create than it is to Destroy’ was coined due to this fact.
But Cassiel—he had been different. He wasn’t a fighter and had only become a Deity since he needed to be one to further comprehend the laws of Creation.
He was an inventor, a visionary who left an indelible mark on the annals of history on a Universal scale and would have left many more—if he wasn’t already dead.
Lapis and Cassiel trained together under Jamie millions of years ago, and the man’s death was something she could never forget.
Even more unforgettable, was the memory of the other person close to Lapis who lost their life that day.
The mention of the Amphitheatre of Eternity brought all those memories rushing back and for a moment, Lapis was silent, lost in the weight of her thoughts.
She took a deep breath, her expression growing sombre before she finally spoke.
"The theatre is scheduled to open in February next year. I can make arrangements depending on how you wish to attend."
"Then let’s go Incognito this time."
Lapis raised a brow, sensing the familiar mischief in his tone, but said nothing.
Jamie responded like this because had no intention of drawing any unnecessary attention at the Amphitheatre’s opening, especially with hidden goals he was determined to achieve.
If things went according to plan, he might leave the Pinecone Galaxy not just as a Mid-Tier Deity, but possibly a High-Tier Deity!
"Maybe I’d bring David and Davina along. I did kinda leave them hanging when I left Estea..."
Since the moment he’d detected Miranda’s presence while using retrocognition to uncover the mystery behind the disappearance of his Blue Moon Castle, Jamie had not set foot back on Estea.
From there, he’d gone straight to Zotov with Miranda, and from Zotov to Pinecone, settling on Anadus Prime in February.
