Beyond the Bloodline-Chapter 189: Embrace the Power Within
"You don’t like the circumstances in which you gained them, so you avoided using them."
Jamie spoke as he rested his elbow on his lap and propped his chin on his palm. Shaking his head slightly, he spoke up before Miranda could even think up a reply.
"I’ve told you this before, Mira.
It doesn’t matter if you were captured and used in a Witch’s experiment against your will."
Miranda’s brow twitched when Jamie said this but he wasn’t bothered and continued speaking.
"What matters is that you have those powers now. They’re yours...forever."
Jamie stood upright and walked around Miranda, placing his hands on her shoulders from behind as he continued. 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶
"Another thing I’ve said before is that it’s not about liking or hating your powers. It’s about living to see another day in this fucked up Universe.
Our encounter with Angela has expanded our worldviews and allowed us to understand that the Universe is far more dangerous than we’d like to believe.
Beings with Cosmic Superiority exist out there, and you never know which one you may end up against.
In this crazy universe where danger lurks in every corner, you have to use everything at your disposal to survive."
Jamie moved around her and crouched down once more, placing his hands on her cheeks as he concluded.
"And you just so happen to have the kind of power that’d make you survive virtually anything."
"..."
The logical part of Miranda’s mind knew he was right, but her heart screamed in defiance. Those powers were like a curse, a reminder of a nightmare she could never wake up from.
How could Jamie ask this of her?
"Let’s bring my pragmatic side into this..."
Jamie’s hands moved down from Miranda’s face and grabbed the blade piercing out of her torso. Before the young woman could even choke a word out, he pulled the blade deeper, twisting it around without regard for the fact that his actions were hurting her and causing her even more pain.
He did this with his right hand, hiding his left hand behind his back so Miranda did not see how his nails had dug so deep into his fingers that they drew blood.
"How about you stop wasting these powers you have, and use them for your benefit? Let them grow stronger alongside you...so you don’t end up on another Witch’s operating table."
"?!"
Jamie’s words cut deeper than the blade literally sticking out of her own torso.
"It hurts, doesn’t it? I can relate.
Tried out Wolfsbane some years back just to see how effective this ’famed weakness of ours’ was. Really regretted that decision."
He chuckled lightly, recalling the event from more than ten years ago.
"It was excruciating, but I learned a few good lessons from that."
Taking his hand off the blade, he moved his fingers back to her cheeks and spoke.
"Mira, I don’t want to see you suffer.
But I also can’t stand by and watch you reject the very thing that could save your life now and many more times in the future.
You have no choice but to embrace it, no matter how it came to you."
Miranda’s breath hitched, her eyes filling with tears. Jamie’s actions, though harsh, came from a place of genuine care, and she could tell this.
But—
"Jamie..."
She whispered, her voice trembling.
"I’m...scared."
"Tell me something I don’t know.
I’ve seen the way you look at yourself, Mira. The self-loathing, the disgust. But those aren’t things that you can let define you."
’Tsk...they’re already on their way back.’
Such a thought crossed Jamie’s mind right after he spoke. He wanted to give Miranda more time, but unfortunately, they didn’t have that luxury right now.
As for Miranda, she was shocked at just how a few words from Jamie had made her resolve weaken. She was dumbfounded by the amount of influence Jamie had on her, to be able to make her actually consider his words despite everything she had done to rid herself of her Hybrid powers.
"Jamie...they’re...not me..."
Understanding that the ’they’ she was referring to were her Hybrid powers, Jamie chuckled as he condensed magic power into the tip of his index finger.
"Hahaha, oh, I can assure you that’s not the case. They’re you. They’re every part of you."
With those words, he tapped the tip of the blade piercing through her torso and it disappeared, causing blackened blood to gush out of the wound.
"Didn’t want to do this, but we don’t have the luxury of time anymore.
Jamie got to his feet, cracking his fingers as his eyes lit up with a dull glow. Parting his lips, he spoke in a magic-infused voice.
[They’re here.]
"?!"
Just as he said that, the space not too far from them broke open and the Drifter Laird, returned with his god companion.
Jamie had sent them to different locations, so Laird had to first find his companion who ended up inside an ocean, before they could finally make a return trip.
[Damn, those fish sure were hungry.]
Jamie said this as he turned around and the god who was drenched in saltwater froze, before raising his hand to his head and pulling off a piranha that was biting him. Its bite was so weak compared to him that he hadn’t even noticed it, but its presence infuriated him to no end.
He squashed the poor fish in his palm and just as he roused his divinity to attack, Laird held out a hand to stop him.
"Hold on, Dar."
The god whose name was revealed to be Dar, stopped upon his companion’s insistence. He glanced at Laird and saw that the Drifter was staring at Jamie with narrowed eyes.
’What sort of "Irregular" existence is this guy? He’s a Vampire but silver doesn’t work, and he could regenerate even after destroying his own heart.’
When Jamie had pulled those blades from his body, the man had actually destroyed his heart in the process, which was why the two Deities were so dumbfounded to see him still alive even with his heart destroyed.
Even Vampire Kings would die if their hearts were destroyed!
’What’s more, he violated my Authority!’
An Authority was the manifestation of a Deity’s right to enforce their will upon the power of a Universal Law.
It was gained after comprehending laws to a certain point. Besides Progenitors, every other being needed to reach Transcendence to do this and Jamie was no exception.
He comprehended the law of space and currently, his comprehensions were around 60% of the Basic RL.
He achieved a Pseudo-Authority in it at 35%, owing to his ridiculous affinity that made it seem like the space itself was in love with him.
There was also his Hybrid nature that enhanced everything about the Base races that constituted it. In this case, these were the Vampire and Werewolf races...as well as the Drifter Race Factors that Angela had used as a Catalyst when she made Jamie a Hybrid.
It was the only thing capable of balancing Jamie’s high innate spatial affinity, and that made the affinity even crazier, making his control over the law even greater.
This was why with his Pseudo-Authority and Unique Skill, he was able to violate the command of a being who had a Higher ranked Authority in the Law of Space.
Even if they both comprehended the Basic RL, Jamie’s Pseudo-Authority should not be able to have easily usurped control of Laird’s spatial gate which had the power of his ’Complete’ Authority.
After all, Pseudo-Authorities were only ’Half’ Authorities. The Origin Cores formed when one gained them were only Half, and they only had Half, sometimes lesser than half of the power a Complete one had.
Yet Jamie not only usurped control of Laird’s Spatial Gate, he also went on to use the energy from the gate to attack him, and then forcefully displace two Deities to another place on the Planet with a single command.
’It took me close to a minute to create a Gate that Dar and I could use, but this guy warped us an even further distance than I wanted to go in an instant, using just a single Command.’
Of course, if Laird was a Low Tier Deity or even a Superior Stage Half Deity, then this story would have been completely different as Jamie wouldn’t have been able to do shit.
But Laird was only Deity Level 33. The power gap between him and the nonstandard Jamie who had Stats values higher than the System’s limits, wasn’t that much.
’What’s more, despite the fact that I took time to find Dar in the ocean and then also took time to return here, he hasn’t left.
That makes no sense. His companion is injured, and he was able to displace us; the wise decision would be to take the Saintess girl and run before we could return but he stayed.’
