Beyond the Bloodline-Chapter 148: Authority of Dragons
Ikerth’s reddish-brown eyes glowed with light and his body underwent an instantaneous transformation.
A pair of horns emerged from the sides of his head and a long red-scaled tail burst out from his lower back. Two pairs of wings unfurled from his shoulder blades and the once illusory scales all over his body gained physical form and became part of his skin.
Scales extended up his neck, ending just below his lower lip, and the tip of his tail sharpened into a distinct fork.
However, the highlight of this instantaneous transformation was not his new form, but the dense amount of magic power and destructive law energy swirling in a vortex of molten lava in his mouth.
"?!"
*SNAP!!
Jamie immediately snapped his finger and spatial magic power converged at a point in front of him, blooming into a blue-rimmed wormhole just in time for Ikerth’s voice to ring aloud.
|Authority of Dragons. |
’Dragon Breath!’
As Ikerth’s mouth opened wide, a colossal hyper beam of lava erupted forth with a deafening roar, its searing heat distorting the air and scorching the earth beneath.
The molten hyper beam surged toward the wormhole Jamie created, its destructive force threatening to consume everything in its path.
At first, the wormhole succeeded in absorbing the beam, but the overwhelming energy it contained began to strain the limits of the portal. Cracks formed along the edges of the wormhole as its structure wavered under the immense pressure.
In a split-second, the wormhole collapsed, unable to contain the lava’s fury any longer and the hyper beam burned through the distorted space and continued its path of destruction.
The unbridled force of the lava hyper beam crashed into Jamie without a moment’s hesitation. Its scorching heat and raw power struck him squarely, lifting him off his feet and hurtling him through the air.
The impact was so intense that it sent shockwaves rippling across the landscape.
Jamie’s body became a projectile, his form soaring across the horizon, crashing through one mountain after another as if they were mere pebbles in his path.
Each mountain he collided with crumbled and shook from the force of the impact, violently fragmenting to pieces in the wake of his trajectory.
Ikerth wanted to continue firing the beam until Jamie was unable to stand, but the man did not forget that he was fighting not one, but two people.
He swiftly cancelled the breath and turned to the side, just in time to raise his claws to block the sledgehammer that came slamming in from his flank.
Even so, the force still yeeted him off the ground but he flapped his wings and balanced himself in the air.
Miranda didn’t give chase. She silently looked at the dragon whose form was now less ’Human’ and more ’Draconic’.
’I see...he reconstructed his avatar so of course he had to get used to it again.
The longer this fight drags on, the more he’d get used to it and soon he’d be able to return to his true form as a dragon.’
The moment she had that thought, she sent a telepathic message to Jamie while raising her right hand at Ikerth who was charging towards her.
"Violet Inferno: Violet Blaze."
Miranda conjured a torrent of violet flames that surged towards the Dragon, incinerating the projected slashes he had fired and forcing him to change his flight trajectory to avoid being burned.
Her purple flames had Esoteric properties that made any kind of fire resistance nearly pointless against them, so even as a Dragon with the highest resistance to flames, Ikerth had to be fearful of Miranda’s purple fire.
Another thing he had to be fearful of, was the way Miranda chained attacks one after the other without a second’s break.
"Scorching Tempest, Inferno Eruption, Hellfire Whirlwind, Destruction Inferno, Ember Storm."
Miranda created a swirling vortex of purple fire that engulfed Ikerth faster than he could react. The dragon released a burst of destructive energy to counter them, but he the ground underneath him suddenly exploded, geysers of purple flames erupting with the force of a volcano.
Ikerth crashed onto the ground, dragging his claws across the earth and carving the planet’s crust open.
From within, magma surged upward and swirled around him, his Unique Skill activating at full power as he unleashed streams of pressurized magma to block the whirlwinds of purple fire that threatened to tear through him with cyclonic force.
The two attacks collided and the heat melted the planet’s crust even more, giving Ikerth more access to more magma which he manipulated to block Miranda’s whirlwinds.
Suddenly, Miranda’s attacks which only contained flame law energy were infused with the crimson energy of the law of destruction, intensifying their heat and turning them into unstoppable infernos.
The skies parted and a barrage of flaming embers rained down on Ikerth, scorching his scales with fury.
In response, Ikerth encased himself in a suit of molten lava to boost his durability before stomping his foot on the ground and creating a tidal wave of molten lava that swept towards Miranda.
He formed a spear with his molten lava in his hand and hurled it at Miranda with deadly accuracy, however, the Hybrid raised her hand and caught the attack mere millimetres from her face.
She leveraged its momentum and spun her body around before throwing it back at him.
Ikerth dodged the lava spear and let it hit a mountain behind him, ignoring the exploding mountain as he triggered a volcanic eruption with his Unique Skill.
Molten lava spewed from the earth in a towering column of flames that rained destruction upon everything around him.
As lava rained down, Ikerth soared into the air, releasing another searing breath attack towards Miranda who countered with her own beam of violet flames.
The two attacks clashed midway between them, the violet flames and molten lava battling for dominance. Their intense collision caused space to fracture, opening a swirling rift that consumed both attacks before collapsing.
Ikerth flapped his wings and descended rapidly towards Miranda, channelling his destructive law energy into his claws for a single full-power attack.
"Annihilation Strike!"
Miranda raised her sledgehammer and met his descent head-on with her own technique.
Their weapons collided in a dazzling display of sparks and energy, sending shockwaves rippling through the fabric of space itself.
Evenly matched in power, the two pulled back their weapons and struck once more. This time, Miranda overpowered Ikerth and succeeded in knocking him into the air.
She followed him and deftly swung her sledgehammer while Ikerth quickly regained his balance and lunged at her with his Ruindeum claws.
Miranda blocked Ikerth’s strikes and countered with powerful swings of her own. Each clash of their weapons sent resonating waves echoing through the air, as the two engaged in a fierce aerial duel.
Ikerth had gnawing anxiety at the back of his mind, wondering just what Jamie was doing that had prevented him from re-joining the battle all this while.
’If she’s buying time for him to do something...?!’
The thought flashed through his mind, urging the man to put an end to whatever they were scheming. The dragon used his Annihilation Sphere, and just as Miranda backed away to escape the Destructive energy’s range, he slammed his palms together and activated a Tier 6 Spell.
"Lava Magic: Scorching Nova!"
An intense burst of heat and flames was released from the dragon’s body, incinerating everything in the vicinity with the searing power of molten lava.
Seeing the overwhelming mass of power surging forth and threatening to consume everything within a thousand-kilometre radius, Miranda frowned and dropped her hammer.
She rapidly condensed her purple flames into a single spot within her palms and raised them into the air.
"Violet Inferno: Ashen An-!"
"Void Collapse."
Jamie’s voice resounded in her ears before she could complete her technique activation and the ambient spatial laws thrummed.
Within the rapidly expanding Scorching Nova, a localized and isolated pocket of space was created. Barely half a second after its creation, the space imploded with tremendous force and the resulting implosion swallowed the spewing lava, crushing it out of existence.
"Wha-!?"
Ikerth’s brain had not yet finished computing what just happened when a hand suddenly grabbed his face, its sharp claws digging into the sides of his head.
The dragon reflexively slashed with his Ruindeum Claws, even activating a technique, however, the claws seamlessly phased through the target like he wasn’t even there.
Jamie maintained his tight grip on Ikerth’s head, spinning his body around to generate momentum before throwing the Dragon King’s body into the distance with all his might.
Ikerth’s body became a blur, hurtling at supersonic speeds. It tore through mountains, cleaved lakes in half, and eventually crashed down into a deep canyon.
The impact was so immense that his body rebounded into the air, only to crash back down, tumbling and rolling through the fractured earth like a discarded toy.
Witnessing the result of his throw and seeing the massive clouds of dust rising into the air, Jamie wiped the elven blood off the corner of his lips before saying.
"I think I used too much gravity law energy."
"Or you drank too much blood and boosted your strength excessively."
"Nahh...it’s the gravity law energy."
Jamie replied to Miranda with a chuckle, however, he felt her gaze on him turn strange and looked towards her, intending to find out why.
However, when he looked at her, she flinched lightly and turned her face away.
"What...?"
"Nothing."
Miranda was definitely not going to admit that she felt the urge to play with the two wolf ears sticking out the top of Jamie’s head while rubbing her cheeks on his tail.
Not in a million years.
