Chapter 134: A Memory of Yore II

Next to him sat his closest friend, a man with dark purple hair and eyes that seemed to shimmer with depth. A small mole beside his lips added to his already striking charm, enhancing his handsome features.

The head of the Scott Werewolf Clan, Thomas.

These two men were not only the most powerful Werewolves on Apex Planet Estea but also in the entirety of the Zanerth Universe.

Race Rulers who held not the titles of ’King’ but ’Emperor’.

After ’Race Kings’ came ’Race Emperors’, beings at the very peak of power within the Universe.

The truth of whether there were other Existence Realms above this or not was something that had not been confirmed at this point in time, but everyone believed that if anyone knew this information, then it was these Race Emperors.

"Miranda, you’re supposed to be the one stopping him from pulling these reckless stunts. Why did you join him this time?

That was a Class 2 Restricted Area, you know? The monsters in the centre of that forest could kill you with a sneeze!"

Miranda silently looked away when she heard her father’s words, whistling suspiciously and this was enough for the man to realise she had gotten carried away.

He sighed upon seeing her reaction, wondering if he should really listen to his older children who kept on saying that Jamie was being a bad influence on Miranda.

Jamie and Miranda were envied by all of the younger Werewolves, not just in their Clans but in all the Werewolf Clans and families of Estea.

But they were also the strongest of all of them, reaching power levels that incited both jealousy and awe from their peers.

They were the ultimate ’GOAL’ that all the of the younger generation werewolves wanted to surpass.

It would have been perfect if Jamie wasn’t so mischievous and didn’t like to drag Miranda along.

"Looking at two of them reminds me of you and Leen."

"Huh? No way! Sure, I was a little bit unbridled when I was younger but I wasn’t to the level of your brat!"

Thomas shot back instantly when he heard Robert’s comment, but the blue-eyed man only raised a brow and asked in a tone full of doubt.

"Really?"

"Yeah, I w-!"

Thomas suddenly went silent and then gazed at his daughter, before turning back to Robert and posing a question.

"Remember what we were discussing earlier?"

"Oh, that issue of a symbol to deal with the budding hatred."

"Yeah. What if we use ’them’?"

By ’them’, Thomas clearly referred to their children who were tinkering with one of the Artifacts hanging on the wall and Robert’s eyes shone.

Immediately, Jamie and Miranda had a bad premonition and turned towards their Fathers who were looking at them like hawks watching their prey.

"Mira, I think we need to run."

"Impossible."

Truly, it was impossible.

Ignoring their short exchange, Jamie’s father used his magic to pull them closer before asking a question in all seriousness.

"What if...both of you were to get engaged?"

"..."

"..."

His question was met with silence. Jamie and Miranda blinked at him, before looking at each other and then back to the man.

"Are you talking about the ’preparations for marriage’ kind of engaged?"

"...yeah, that kind."

Robert wondered what other kind Jamie was thinking about but he still answered and watched his son’s reaction closely.

The two teenagers looked at one another once more, before shaking their heads.

"Yeah, Nope."

"Not gonna work out."

The two fathers present were dumbfounded when they heard this. Jamie and Miranda looked like a match made in heaven and there were a lot of people who believed they were already in a relationship.

Heck, they would have thought the same if it wasn’t for the fact that the two were their children and they knew more than the onlooking outsiders.

"Why are you opposed to the idea?"

Thomas asked this with a serious tone and this made the two teenagers realise that their parents were not joking with their questions. As such, they adopted a serious demeanour and answered without a hint of jokes.

"Jamie might be my best friend whom I like very much, but my feelings for him are 100% platonic."

"I wouldn’t deny Mira’s ’my type’, but that doesn’t equate to me having those kinds of feelings for her."

Miranda was lightly surprised at Jamie’s words, but her surprise came from the fact that he said that in front of her father, not because she already didn’t know this.

The boy had a low filter on his mouth and more often than not, he usually spoke exactly what was on his mind.

When asked by one of the young female wolves of her Clan, he had blatantly admitted this, an action that gave wings to the rumours of them dating.

Thomas and Robert went silent when they heard the two teenager’s replies, and they glanced at each other.

’I’d rather not risk spoiling their current relationship, it might end up making the situation worse.’

’True. Let’s leave them on their own and see how things progress for now.’

After having that telepathic conversation, the two men dismissed the teenagers, not after warning them NOT to go near any restricted areas again.

Unfortunately, it seemed that warning went in through one ear and out the other, as right before their very eyes, Jamie asked Miranda if she wanted to go check out a ’Forbidden Forest’ where the weakest monsters were Level 700 existences that could sink islands with a single strike.

Robert nearly snapped when he heard this and it took Thomas to hold the man back from smacking his son in the back of the head.

As the two teenagers ran out while laughing at the man, Miranda silently posed a question to Jamie.

"Were you serious about going there?"

"Obviously. It’d be fine as long as we stay on the outskirts."

Indeed, the monsters on the Outskirts were around the Level 700-710 ranges, something that the two who were both Level 699 could deal with.

However, it was that particular day that the outskirts of the Forest were not as safe as they used to be.

◇ ◇ ◇

When they arrived at the forest and delved into its eerie woods, they came across a scene they were not meant to see.

A Witch and a Pheonix stood atop the unconscious body of a Vampire, someone who should NOT be within Cassarean—Werewolf territory.

Not only that, this Vampire was the grandchild of a Race King, someone both of them were acquainted with.

They watched as the Witch placed her hand on the Vampire’s chest and right before their very eyes, his skin turned white as if all blood had been drained out of his body.

His heartbeat was gone, but with their enhanced hearing, they could still hear him breathing.

They had just witnessed the first use of the Desiccation spell on a Vampire.

Jamie and Miranda had sharper senses than normal, so they could tell, that the two people in front of them were STRONG.

What’s more, the Vampire that both of them had subdued was someone who was a being above Transcendence.

They didn’t harbour any stupid thoughts of trying to save him, especially when they didn’t even understand what was going on.

"Now then, to get him to Lady Cathedral."

The Phoenix picked up the Desiccated Vampire and slumped the body over his shoulder, while the Witch nodded in silence.

She adjusted the three orbs hanging on her waist, protection charms that had been given to her and the Phoenix by ’Lady Cathedral’ before they set off to capture this Vampire.

After that, she then asked a question that sent chills down Jamie and Miranda’s spines.

"What about those two over there? What do we do with them?"

Clearly, the Witch and the Pheonix had long since sensed their presence and even the concealment artifacts they had on them were as good as useless.

"Killing children leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Just bring them along and be careful, the barrier around this forest may obscure perceptions but to Race Emperors, it might as well not exist.

Don’t do anything that’d draw their attention to this side of the Continent."

By the time the Witch was done warning the Pheonix Man, Jamie and Miranda were already kilometres away. They had put their all into escaping without looking back for a second.

Jamie’s first action was to attempt a teleportation, but he quickly noticed that the energy of the Witch had filled the area they were in, locking the space.

It did not matter how good Jamie was at spatial magic, he was still a mortal existence and the Witch was a higher existence—her Authority was inviolable.

The Pheonix stretched out his hand and sent two bolts of flames in their direction. The flames consumed the trees in the forest effortlessly, burning some monsters to crisp before eventually reaching them.

Jamie and Miranda quickly turned around and roused their magic powers, creating elemental barriers which they used to block the Pheonix’s flames.

"Huh? They blocked it?"
