Chapter 120: Just 50?!

"Hmm?"

"I need a guarantee that you would not destroy my soul fragment even after I’ve given you what you want."

The Hybrid wasn’t too surprised at her words and only shrugged his shoulders while replying.

"If you want a guarantee, we can make a Soul Binding contract or something."

Nevertheless, Adrienna felt that just that wasn’t enough.

"It’s not enough of a guarantee."

And since when do things that bind souls start ’not being enough’? Is this a new fad that popped up in the past 10,000 years?"

Jamie looked to Miranda when he asked and the woman shook her head to show she had no idea of any of such fads.

"I don’t know you personally, and I’ve only heard stories. However, I know a being on your level would definitely have a few ways to work around Soul Contracts."

Adrienna’s words made Jamie go silent for a bit and he turned towards Miranda for a moment before saying.

"Damn, she’s right."

"Of course, she is."

The man chuckled lightly before turning his gaze back to Adrienna and speaking.

"Sure, I have a few of such means. It’s just that I never thought of using them till you mentioned it.

Maybe reminding me of such wasn’t that much of a good idea on your part."

"..."

Adrienna went silent when Jamie said that, and the man shook his head with a light chuckle.

"You know we can use your Link with your real body to find where you are and get what we want ourselves.

So, do you want that, or not?"

"...I’d take the Soul Binding contract."

"Pleasure doing business with you."

Jamie clapped his hands twice after he spoke, and Adrienna felt the invisible restraints on her arms loosen up, though the ones that bound her lower body still remained.

Just before she could say anything, Jamie moved the condensed orb of flames and lightning, holding it up in front of his open palm.

"Mira."

"I know."

Miranda picked Brambus’ body from the ground and held the unconscious man up by his hair.

"You’ve gotten all you want from Brambus, right?"

"Yes. I have all I need. I’d personally leave this night to handle everything. I’m destroying every single bit of their research."

Adrienna wondered exactly what this ’Research’ was that Miranda was personally leaving to deal with it, but she knew she wasn’t going to get an answer even if she asked. Besides, she had more important things to deal with at the moment than whatever Brambus was involved in.

"That’s good. Please release your seal."

Miranda nodded and used her Pseudo-Authority to remove the seal that was keeping Brambus unconscious, and barely half a second after she did so, the man regained himself.

"Hello Brambus."

"?!"

The sound of Jamie’s voice snapped him out of his initial daze, but before he could even process another thought, Jamie’s voice rang out once more.

"Bye Brambus."

**BOOOMM!!!!!

The orb of condensed flames and lightning zapped through the air at supersonic speed, colliding with Brambus’ face at the same moment Miranda let go of his hair.

Due to the force with which it was launched, the orb sent the man flying into the distance, crashing into a nearby mountain, followed by an explosion that enveloped it in a blaze of blue flames and lightning.

The towering peak of the mountain crumbled and disintegrated into a cloud of dust and rubble due to the explosive force that erupted from the impact.

But despite this spectacular attack, Jamie had a frown on his face.

"That didn’t die, did he?"

"Nope."

The persistent reality surfaced once more—that the current Jamie lacked the power to inflict enough damage to deplete a Transcendent’s health in a single strike.

"Ah, fuck this shit."

Jamie cursed and dipped his hand into the empty patch of black space that manifested beside him and pulled out his weapon.

’Galaxy Sword’.

The mere appearance of the sword sent warning bells ringing in Adrienna’s mind, but Jamie didn’t care if the woman was scared off by his weapon.

Miranda also didn’t care, but what she cared about was the lasting effect on Zotov that Jamie using that sword was going to have.

"Jay, Zotov cannot handle that."

"I know, Mira. Now just back me up here."

The Hybrid spoke as his eyes lit up with a dull glow, while Miranda sensed the activation of a Skill—a Unique Skill, to be specific.

Miranda raised her hand and a ribbon of purple aura manifested around the sword which twinkled with the light of the starry night sky.

[Unique Skill: Imperial Privileges.]

[Second Privilege: Space.]

With that, Jamie swung down the blade silently, releasing a slash of energy that flew towards the ruined mountain where Brambus was.

The world’s colours inverted and Adrienna saw a gap of ’nothing’ form in the path where Jamie’s projected slash passed.

It continued straight to Brambus was lying wounded, before splitting the man in two pieces, from crotch to Skull.

"Next one."

"Already on it."

Immediately after, Jamie spun around to where Miranda was holding the head of Bliteon’s Chief Transcendent.

The woman replenished the ribbon of aura around Jamie’s sword with a chunk of her own energy, and in one single motion, Jamie sent another Dimensional Slicing slash towards the Dragon’s neck.

Not even half a second had passed after he did this, and the energy in his body abruptly surged outwards like a Tsunami in all directions.

The man stumbled and on reflex, he stabbed the Galaxy Sword into the ground and used it to prop himself up.

This little action had very drastic consequences as the grass on the ground where the blade pierced suddenly greyed out, before turning to ashes blown away in the wind. The earth itself blackened like charcoal and by the next second, this effect had already covered a square metre of land.

"Sorry about that, Zotov."

Miranda muttered that apology as she rushed over to help Jamie stand, making sure to avoid touching the Galaxy Sword herself.

Jamie may have been weakened, but the Sword was not, and she did not forget how it disliked being touched by anyone who wasn’t him unless he had explicitly given them permission.

Permission Jamie could not give right now as he was trying to stabilize his rapidly surging power.

The man was Level 833, and then he proceeded to kill two Transcendents of Level 915 and Level 949 respectively.

Naturally, he would be flooded with a lot of EXP for killing something more than 100 levels above him, and the end result would be his own level rising rapidly.

Even if he needed more EXP than normal, there was just too much EXP.

As for the reason why he had stumbled, it was because his body wasn’t yet done adapting to the sudden increase in power from killing Brambus when he suddenly fed it a lot more EXP from the Bliteon Transcendent.

From Adrienna’s position, she saw blood drip out the corner of Jamie’s eyes, but when she blinked, it was gone and the man stood upright perfectly.

"Good."

He put the sword back into his subspace after he spoke, before opening his status board and inspecting it while deactivating his Unique Skill.

"What level?"

"883."

"From Two Transcendents? At this rate, you would not be at Transcendence by the Time Ikerth gets here."

Miranda frowned when she heard that Jamie had only gone up by 50 levels. In her opinion, it was far too small for the amount of EXP consumed.

"It’s not surprising for me.

But I still have a few other means of increasing my strength in the short time we have left."

"I’m still against you using the law of Slaughter. It may cause you to ’Alternarte’ if you take in too much blood..."

The deep frown on Miranda’s face showed just how much she detested Jamie’s idea, to use the law of Slaughter’s power.

The law wasn’t one that was difficult to understand. It was something that increased the user’s ability to ’Slaughter’ and allowed the user to gain more power through this.

But like all things, there were drawbacks.

First, was the fact that the law messed with the user’s sanity!

If you did not have enough mental fortitude, you would not be able to withstand the power of Slaughter and could go berserk.

Miranda could not count how many times she had to beat young Wolf Lords and Kings who had failed to grasp the law of slaughter’s power and had gone berserk over the years back to their senses.

One would think that they should be able to withstand it since they were Higher Existences, but the law was one that permeated through the entire Universe; its scale was much higher than theirs.

In this case, it wasn’t that Miranda did not have confidence in Jamie’s mental fortitude.

The woman trusted him more than her family so that clearly was not the case.

It’s just that for Jamie, ’Balance’ was a very important thing.
