Chapter 110: Defeating the Sovereign Merman

Though the Merman attempted a follow-up attack, he was not given the chance when Jamie forced him into the defensive with dozens of crackling lightning spears that aimed for his chest.

The Merman crossed his arms and generated another multi-layered barrier of dark light to block the attack, but Jamie’s next actions rendered his defensive action futile.

"Phase."

"?!"

The spears of lightning were all encased in Jamie’s spatial magic power, and they easily phased through his barrier of dark light, piercing him all over his body and riddling his wings with holes when they exploded.

Before the explosion could even die down, Jamie enveloped the Galaxy Sword with azure flames and swung it down, sending a slash of flames flying towards him.

**BOOOMMMM!!

His barrier was broken through and the slash hit the arms which were crossed behind the barrier, engulfing them in azure flames that seemed to burn both body and soul.

"GARG-mph!"

Even the Merman’s scream of pain was cut short when Jamie closed the distance, stuffing an orb of blue light into the man’s mouth.

"———!!!"

Pangs of pain shot up to the Merman’s brain, so much that he nearly blacked out, but Jamie grabbed onto his horns and violently ripped them out of his body, inflicting another wave of pain that snapped him back to consciousness.

Bright red blood splattered, mixing with the water around them and dyeing it crimson. Jamie then decided to make that shade even deeper, by using the sharp tip of the Merman’s horn to stab him in the shoulder, twisting the curved horn into his body before violently ripping it out once more.

It should be noted that all this happened while his arms were still engulfed with Jamie’s Azure Flames.

"You have no idea how tempted I am to use you to make a Blood Fruit."

Jamie could see the fear in the man’s eyes as he spoke, a maniacal grin forming on the Hybrid’s face as if he delighted in the man’s dread.

His right hand moved over to the Merman’s broken left wing, grabbing onto it and squeezing the bones inside it.

"You’re a Junior Race Lord, are you not? Though I would have preferred it to be a woman, your ’Tears’ would still suffice.

I need something that I can use to deal with curses for now as most of my curse-related powers are sealed."

The man remembered how he had suffered a defeat at the hands of the Transcendents, something he would have been able to avoid if he possessed a means to break out of that Half Vampire’s Blood Curse.

’His real body is most likely on a nearby planet, or maybe a Space Craft. I don’t want to leave Zotov yet, but the Mermaid Tears of a Sovereign are quite useless to me. My base curse resistance is even higher than whatever protection they can afford me...’

He stopped his flames after noticing they had charred the Merman’s hands black, but his hand remained on the left wing he had grabbed as he twisted it at odd angles, keeping the Merman in a constant state of pain.

The man attempted to blast Jamie away with an aura burst, but faster than he could gather the energy, Jamie summoned the Galaxy sword and stabbed him in the stomach with it.

"Don’t interrupt me, I’m trying to think."

Just as Jamie said that, he sensed movements in his spatial perception range, turning around just in time to see another Mermaid stab towards his head with a spear of blue light.

’I didn’t sense her energy?’

The Hybrid’s brow raised in surprise as even though he could see the mermaid with his eyes, he could not sense her energy, as well as the energy of the spear of light she was holding.

’Maybe it’s some sort of skill?’

He asked himself that question, ignoring the spear of light that was still piercing toward his head, as well as the dumbfounded expression of the woman who was convinced her sneak attack had succeeded.

But no matter how much she thrust the spear forward, it still seemed to be piercing through the water on its way to Jamie’s head.

"Why so surprised? It’s just simple spatial expansion."

Jamie spoke as he expanded the space between him and her, creating a kilometre of distance between them, however, from a third party’s point of view, there was barely a metre between them.

"I expanded the space your spear has to cross to reach my head, so it’s not that your attack isn’t working, it’s just that it hasn’t reached me yet."

He then let go of the Merman and raised his hand to grab onto the woman’s spear. She tried pulling it back but quickly gave up on that endeavour and let go of the weapon, moving back to gain distance.

"Where are you going?"

When Jamie asked her that, a wormhole appeared behind her and she was pulled into it forcefully. Another then appeared above Jamie’s head and the Mermaid fell out of it, with her neck nicely plopping into Jamie’s left hand.

"Now then..."

Jamie had noticed a look of recognition flash through the eyes of the Merman when the woman appeared, so he guessed that they knew each other.

Azure flames enveloped his left arm, swirling up onto his wrist before stopping there; close enough that the mermaid could feel the heat of the flames.

She tried to attack Jamie but the man simply froze her body in space and turned his gaze back to the Merman.

"I didn’t think there would still be another Sovereign left, but that’s not important.

Do you value this woman’s life?"

In the corner of his eye, he noticed her expression change a bit when he spoke, further giving credit to his guess that the two must’ve had some sort of relationship.

"..."

"No answer? You do realise that’s the same as a ’Yes’, right?"

The Hybrid sighed and shook his head as the Merman’s actions had confirmed his conjecture. He looked at the Mermaid, noting that she was not an avatar, but a normal Inferior Sovereign Realm existence.

"I’d spare her if you were to get me some Mermaid Tears, from your real body."

’I may be able to awaken my Water Attribute Skills with the tears—Ah, this plan is a bust.’

Jamie’s thoughts came to an abrupt halt when he saw the look in the eyes of the Merman. That was all he needed to know that to the Merman, this other Mermaid, who he just so happened to have as a Lover, wasn’t worth much in his eyes.

"A pity, it seems you aren’t valued much."

His hand that was around the Mermaid’s neck started tightening bit by bit, the flames on his arm started creeping up to her neck and spatial law energy began distorting the space around her neck, slowly crushing it.

He could see the pleading look she sent towards the Merman, but the man just silently looked away.

"Now this is just pointless."

Jamie suddenly spoke as he flung the body of the Mermaid away, before pulling out the Galaxy Sword from the Merman’s torso and stabbing him in the heart once more.

The Hybrid then encased his palm in the energies of the laws of space, life and death, before piercing it into the Merman’s chest.

A moment after, he violently ripped out a ball of black light and held it up in his palm, his brow raising in surprise as he noticed that the Merman’s Unique skill transformation was something that affected the soul fragment in his Avatar as well.

But more than that, there was something else that surprised Jamie.

"Are you stupid, or are you retarded? Who the hell uses a soul fragment this Large on a Sovereign Realm avatar?"

The Mermaid’s soul fragment was even bigger than his clenched fist. That was larger than the sizes of the souls of some Sovereign Realm existences.
