Betrothed To An Alpha? I Don't Think So!-Chapter 102: Luca’s Help
Alessio swallowed, unable to say a word, but just stared at her.
Amber rubbed her hands. She wasn’t saying a word as well, quietly running his gaze.
"Um...I—"
"I don’t know what it is," he cut her off, saying. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞
She blinked at him. "Oh well, I was just..." Her teeth bit into her bottom lip. "Do you know anything about Evelyn? Has Mr. Mancini managed to find her?"
"No," he responded, walking past her. "But he’s gone to get her, and I need to figure out where exactly he’s heading."
Amber turned and hurried after him. "What do you mean? Did Mr. Mancini go alone?"
He nodded. "Yes, and it’s my fault."
Getting into the elevator, he pressed the numbers to head to the second floor, but Amber stepping right in after him, caught him off guard.
He asked, "What are you doing?"
"Going up with you," she said.
"Why?" He looked confused. "Aren’t you going to go home?"
"How can I do that?" She turned her head to stare up at him. "My best friend is missing, which is completely my fault. Am I supposed to just go home and sleep? Can I really do that, huh?"
Alessio blew out a deep breath, fingers brushing through his hair. "No, I don’t."
"Then don’t make me go. I want to help find her in any way I can. I owe her an apology and I can’t give it to her if anything goes more wrong than it already has."
She walked to stand next to him. The elevator was quiet, neither of them saying a word.
Alessio looked down at her short frame. She seemed nervous and he could tell from the way she kept fidgeting with her fingers and rocking back and forth on her feet. Every now and then, she would tuck her short blonde hair behind her ear.
He watched her, and all of a sudden, he mumbled, "It’s not really your fault. I’m more than sure you were just looking out for her."
Why was his heart racing?
Just because she was his mate?
But it wasn’t even like he wanted a human as a mate. So then how could she make him feel this way right after sparking with each other?
———-
Evelyn sat close to the bed, legs pulled to her chest, and head buried in her knees.
How many more days was she going to spend here? It’s been four days now with Valerio and there was no getting away from this man. She hadn’t found a way at all, and she wasn’t sure where to begin.
The routine had been for him to come to see her in the morning, afternoon, and then at night.
Luca, on the other hand, doesn’t even speak to her. All he did was give her food and then vanish out of thin air.
Dragging her fingers through her hair, she rose to her feet and began to pace back and forth.
The room had no window, so where could she even escape from?
She’d been happy the second Valerio stopped keeping her tied up, but even now, she had no idea what to do—
The door pushed open far too suddenly, startling her.
"Come with me." It was Luca.
She frowned at him. "What?"
"Don’t you want to get out of here?" the man questioned. "This is your only chance. He’s gone and there are still at least two hours until he’s back. There are fewer guards today as he took them with him, so I’m giving you a chance to get out of this place."
Before Evelyn could further question him, he grasped her wrist and began to walk her out of the room.
"Stay silent and do not say a word. If the guards even catch a single sniff that you’re missing, it’s over for you. But not just for you, but for me too. Do you understand?" he asked.
She nodded, even though she was still completely lost. Just a few days ago, he wouldn’t even look at her, nor acknowledge the fact that she needed help.
Arriving at the kitchen on the last floor, he lifted a hand, stopping her.
She glanced at him. "What’s going on?"
"Keep quiet," he whispered back.
Evelyn immediately went mute.
"The kitchen is connected to the living room and in the living room, there are men situated at the balcony and that is to keep an eye if you were to try escaping. Now, they can see into the kitchen, so I’ll go over and distract them, and while I do, I want you to hurry in and hide behind the freezer. The freezer, do you understand me?"
Even though she was scared, she swallowed, nodding. "Behind the freezer. Okay."
"Good." Luca let go of her.
He took a deep breath and stepped into the living room. The guards lowered their gazes at him.
His lips stretched into the biggest of smiles. "I’m making special meals for the guards tonight and I was wondering if you guys have a particular meal in mind."
The three men glanced at each other. "What?" they asked in unison.
"Do you three have any particular meal in mind that you want?" Luca’s smile grew bigger. "Don’t worry, you don’t have to make a single choice, you can each tell me what you want. The boss pays me for my job anyway."
The guards began thinking with their gazes pointed to the ceiling.
And while they did, Evelyn took that as an opportunity to sneak into the kitchen. She rushed over hiding behind the fridge.
Her chest was rising and falling in heavy breathing, chest a pounding mess. If she were sighted in any way, this entire escape stuff would be over. She might never get to see the light of the day ever again.
She might never get to see Zayne again.
If Valerio even caught her, she knew more than anyone that her situation would only get worse.
And she refused to allow it. Not when someone has finally stood up to help her. She was getting out of here and nothing was going to change that.
