Betrayed Spotlight-Chapter 38: He didn’t want to kiss her
Chapter 38: He didn’t want to kiss her
David clapped his hands together loudly. "Okay everyone! Time for the main event!"
Sarah and Mason walked over to where David had set up his camera. The studio lights were bright and warm, making everything look like a dream.
"I want you two to stand close together," David said, looking through his camera. "This is supposed to be romantic, remember? You’re newlyweds!"
Sarah moved closer to Mason, but there was still space between them. She could smell his cologne and feel the warmth from his body.
"Closer!" David called out. "I can’t even tell you two are married!"
Mason put his hand on Sarah’s waist, pulling her against his side. Sarah’s heart started beating faster. His touch was gentle but firm.
"Better!" David said, snapping a few photos. "Now look at each other like you’re in love!"
Sarah turned to look at Mason. His dark eyes were staring down at her, and for a moment, she forgot they were pretending. He was so handsome, and standing this close to him made her feel strange inside.
"Perfect!" David took more photos. "The chemistry is amazing!" freёweɓnovel_com
After a few more shots, David lowered his camera. "Okay, now I want something more romantic. Sarah, put your arms around Mason’s neck. Mason, hold her closer."
Sarah’s cheeks turned pink, but she did what David asked. She reached up and put her arms around Mason’s neck. His skin was warm under her fingers.
Mason’s hands moved to her waist, holding her gently. They were so close now that Sarah could see the small scar on his chin and count his eyelashes.
"Beautiful!" David was getting excited. "Now Mason, lean down like you’re going to whisper something in her ear."
Mason bent his head down. Sarah could feel his breath on her neck. It made her skin tingle.
"Wait, wait!" David suddenly had a big smile on his face. "I have an even better idea!"
He looked at them with sparkling eyes. "You two should kiss! It would be perfect for the photos!"
Sarah’s eyes went wide. Kiss? Her heart started pounding like a drum.
She remembered the first time Mason kissed her. It was back at the mansion when that woman tried to touch him. Sarah had been so angry and jealous that she acted without thinking. But Mason had kissed her back, and it was... wonderful.
But that was different. That was because Sarah was protecting him from her. Now David was asking them to kiss just for photos. What if Mason didn’t want to? What if he thought it was weird?
Sarah looked up at Mason nervously. His face was unreadable, like always. She couldn’t tell what he was thinking.
"Come on, you two!" David said, holding up his camera. "Just a little kiss! It doesn’t have to be anything big!"
Sarah waited for Mason to say something. Her stomach was full of butterflies. She wanted him to kiss her, but she was scared he would say no.
Suddenly, Mason looked away from her. He turned his head to the side and let go of her waist.
Sarah’s heart sank. He didn’t want to kiss her.
Her face turned red with embarrassment. Of course he didn’t want to kiss her. They were only pretending to be married. The first time was just because of that woman. Mason probably thought kissing her was disgusting.
Sarah quickly stepped back, feeling stupid. "Maybe we don’t need to—"
"Actually," David said, looking disappointed, "a kiss would really make the photos special. It’s supposed to be your wedding photos, after all."
Sarah felt even more embarrassed. She glanced at Elena, who was standing nearby with Kevin. Elena had a small smile on her face, like she was happy that Mason didn’t want to kiss Sarah.
That smile made Sarah feel worse. Elena was probably thinking that Mason didn’t really love his wife. That their marriage was fake.
But then something changed.
Elena’s smile disappeared completely. Her face went white with shock.
Sarah felt Mason’s hand wrap around her waist, pulling her against him. His other hand moved to the back of her neck, his fingers tangling in her hair.
Before Sarah could react, Mason pulled her close and kissed her.
It wasn’t a quick kiss like the one at the mansion. This kiss was deeper, more real. Mason’s lips moved against hers softly, and Sarah felt like her whole body was on fire.
She forgot about David and his camera. She forgot about Elena watching them. She forgot about everything except Mason’s lips on hers and the way he was holding her like she was precious.
"YES!" David screamed, taking picture after picture. "This is perfect! Don’t stop!"
But Sarah barely heard him. Mason’s kiss was making her dizzy. She couldn’t think about anything except how good it felt to be in his arms.
When Mason finally pulled away, Sarah was breathing hard. Her lips felt swollen and her heart was beating so fast she thought it might explode.
Mason was looking at her with an expression she had never seen before. His eyes were dark and intense.
"Perfect!" David was jumping up and down with excitement. "That was absolutely perfect! The photos are going to be amazing!"
Sarah touched her lips with her fingers, still feeling the warmth of Mason’s kiss. She couldn’t believe what had just happened.
Elena was staring at them with jealousy and anger in her eyes. Kevin was packing up his makeup supplies, trying to pretend he hadn’t seen anything.
"I think we have enough photos," David said, still smiling widely. "These are going to be the best wedding photos ever!"
After David finished taking pictures, they both left the studio.
Mason took out his phone and sent the photos to Grandma Liu right away. Sarah watched him type quickly, probably telling his grandmother how the photo shoot went.
"Um, Mr. Liu?" And she was back to calling him that. "Could I... could I get copies of the photos too?"
Mason looked at her with that unreadable expression again. Sarah felt nervous under his stare.
"I know our marriage is fake," she said quickly, "but I would like to have the photos anyway. I want to put one in my bedroom."
Mason studied her face for a long moment. Then he nodded once.
"I’ll ask Derek to send them to you," he said.
"Thank you," Sarah said, feeling relieved.
When they reached the mansion, Sarah went straight to her bedroom. She needed to freshen up and change clothes after the long day.
She took a shower and put on her comfortable white robe. Then she tied her hair up in a messy bun and put on a face mask. She was tired and just wanted to relax.
Sarah went downstairs to get some dinner. She was hungry and the kitchen always smelled so good in the evening.
But when she walked into the dining room, Mason was already there. He was sitting at the table in his home outfit that still looked professional to her, looking like he was ready for a business meeting.
When he saw Sarah, his eyes widened with surprise. He stared at her white robe, her messy hair, and her face mask.
"Do you always look like this?" Mason asked, sounding shocked.
Sarah looked down at her comfortable clothes and then back at him. "Look like what?"
"So... casual," Mason said. "Can’t you look more presentable for dinner?"
Sarah raised one eyebrow and looked around the dining room. Then she looked back at Mason with a confused expression.
"You dress presentable for night food in your house?" she asked.
Mason opened his mouth to answer, but no words came out. He realized Sarah was right. This was their home, not a restaurant or business meeting. Why should she dress up for dinner in her own house?
Sarah sat down across from him and started eating. She ate slowly, enjoying the food. Mason watched her, thinking she looked too skinny. She needed to eat more.
Without thinking, Mason reached over and put more food on Sarah’s plate when he saw she was almost finished.
"Thank you," Sarah said with a smile.
Mason felt strange seeing her smile. It was so natural and pretty, even with the face mask on.
Sarah picked up a piece of meat with her fork and suddenly held it up to Mason’s mouth.
"Here," she said simply.
Mason stared at the fork in front of his face. Sarah was trying to feed him? His heart did something weird in his chest.
He was suspicious at first. Why was she being so nice to him? But then he opened his mouth and let her feed him the meat.
The food was delicious, but what made it taste even better was the way Sarah smiled when he ate it. She looked happy to take care of him.
Just then, a disheveled looking Derek walked into the dining room, carrying some papers. "Boss, I have the contracts you wanted—"
Derek stopped talking when he saw Mason with Sarah’s fork in his mouth. His eyes went wide with shock.
Mason choked on the food, coughing and turning red with embarrassment. He couldn’t believe Derek had caught him being fed by Sarah like a baby!
"I’m so sorry!" Derek said quickly, turning around to face the wall. "I didn’t mean to interrupt!"
"Why the hell did you come here so late?" Mason demanded, still coughing. "It’s already 10 PM."
"I had some important papers to drop off," Derek explained to the wall. "But I can come back tomorrow—"
"Just drop them off and get out!" Mason barked.
Derek quickly put the papers on a side table and hurried toward the door. But before he left, he couldn’t help but glance back at Sarah and Mason.
Sarah was trying not to laugh. Mason looked so embarrassed and angry, like a cat that had been caught stealing fish.
"Good night, Mrs. Liu," Derek said politely to Sarah. "Sorry for interrupting your dinner."
"Good night, Derek," Sarah replied, still trying not to smile.
As soon as Derek left, Mason glared at Sarah. "This is your fault," he said.
"My fault?" Sarah asked, finally laughing. "How is it my fault that you got embarrassed about eating food?"
"You shouldn’t have fed me." Mason said, but he didn’t sound really angry.
"I was just being nice," Sarah said, taking another bite of her food. "You looked like you weren’t eating enough."
Mason watched her eat and realized she was right. He had been so busy with work that he often forgot to eat properly.
"Don’t do it when Derek is around."
Sarah grinned. "What if I promise to check if anyone is coming first?"
Mason looked at her grinning face and felt something warm in his chest. She was teasing him, and he... liked it?
"Maybe," he said, trying to sound serious. "But only if you eat more too. You’re too skinny."
Sarah looked down at herself and then back at Mason. "You think I’m too skinny?"
"Yes," Mason said firmly. "You need to gain weight. It’s not healthy."
Sarah felt happy that Mason was worried about her health. Even if their marriage was fake, he still cared about her wellbeing.
"Okay," she said. "I’ll eat more if you let me feed you sometimes."
Mason considered this deal. Having Sarah feed him was embarrassing, but it also felt nice. Like someone actually cared about him.
"Deal," he said quietly.
Sarah smiled widely. "Deal."
