Being Dumped by My EX, I Marriied His Older Brother-Chapter 37: She Doesn’t Want Cole Kane Anymore
When Nina Thorne remained silent, Justin Kane stepped closer, one eyebrow raised. "Is that all?"
Nina Thorne looked up into his eyes, hesitating.
After a moment, she said, "I’m preparing to sue over Cole Kane giving my script to Serena Kane."
Justin Kane immediately responded with a single word: "Good."
Nina Thorne was surprised. "You don’t think I’m overreacting?"
"This directly affects your personal interests. You’re justified in doing whatever you see fit." Justin Kane’s voice was deep and magnetic, his expression calm and gentle.
This gave Nina Thorne the odd feeling that he would support her no matter what she did.
Nina Thorne didn’t dare to indulge the thought, afraid that if she dwelled on it, she’d just be flattering herself.
She nodded, averting her gaze. "Okay, I understand."
Just then, Miss King announced that dinner was ready. Nina Thorne could feel his gaze resting on the top of her head, making her feel uncomfortable. She turned to leave.
But her foot caught on a nearby table leg, and she nearly fell. Suddenly, a firm pressure wrapped around her waist.
A large hand steadied her waist, and with a turn, Justin Kane pulled her into his arms. The warmth of his chest seemed to scorch her, and her face instantly flushed as red as a ripe persimmon.
"Be careful." A faint smile touched Justin Kane’s lips, his eyes twinkling. "You’re still as clumsy as you were when you were little."
"I’m not clumsy, I was just being careless." Nina Thorne quickly wriggled free from his embrace and stood her ground. Without daring to look at him, she turned and walked away.
The slight curve of Justin Kane’s lips lingered as his dark eyes followed her slender, resilient figure.
A few days later, Nina Thorne returned to the Thorne Family home by herself.
She had just sat down when her lawyer called. The case had been officially filed, and they were preparing to sue Cole Kane and Todd Grant.
Shortly after she hung up, a friend request from Ryan Reeves popped up on her WeChat. After a moment’s consideration, she accepted it.
Ryan Reeves then sent her a message. The gist of it was that he had already dismissed Todd Grant from the company and canceled the production credited to Serena Kane.
Ryan Reeves: Miss Thorne, I guarantee that nothing like this will ever happen again. I hope you’ll continue to work with us.
’Ryan Reeves is the president of OmniCorp, after all. The only reason he’s being so deferential is because of Justin Kane.’
’That must be why he took it so seriously and produced results in just a few days.’
Nina Thorne couldn’t help but marvel. ’It really helps to have friends in high places.’
Seeing Nina Thorne so busy with phone calls and messages ever since she’d arrived, Master Thorne laughed heartily.
"You’re even busier than your grandfather now."
"Don’t tease me, Grandpa. I just have a few things I need to take care of."
Master Thorne had overheard her mention a lawsuit and Cole Kane’s name.
He didn’t press for details, simply saying, "You are my granddaughter, Eugene Thorne’s granddaughter. If anyone bullies you out there, you hit back. No matter how big the trouble, your grandfather will have your back."
"All you need to remember is not to let anyone push you around. Just protect yourself."
Master Thorne’s words were domineering, filled with affection for Nina Thorne.
Nina Thorne had always been a doted-on heiress. In her entire life, Cole Kane was the only one who had ever truly wronged her.
’Never again.’
"You’ve said that so many times, Grandpa. I remember. I promise I won’t let anyone bully me, okay?" Nina Thorne hugged Master Thorne’s arm, her eyes curving into crescents as she smiled, as radiant as a blooming flower.
Master Thorne chuckled, patting the back of her hand with a contented smile.
Nina Thorne stayed for lunch with him before leaving. In the car, Misty Hughes sent her a message, telling her to check the company’s official announcement.
Serena Kane is suspected of plagiarizing Nina Thorne’s work. The production proposal has been withdrawn, and the company reserves the right to pursue legal action.
Furthermore, Todd Grant has been dismissed from the company, and Director Young has been fired.
To compensate Nina Thorne, the investment in this screenplay’s production will be increased.
The announcement was incredibly satisfying to read.
Misty Hughes sent a flurry of messages:
[I couldn’t stand Todd Grant. He was always making crude jokes and walking around with that lecherous, half-asleep look on his face. This is great, I’m so glad I don’t have to see him anymore!]
[And how can that Serena Kane be so shameless? I swear, she acts more like Cole Kane’s mistress than his sister. It’s disgusting.]
[Oh, and I heard Mr. Reeves got Director Aldridge—the hottest director in the business right now—to direct your movie! Nina Thorne, this is a total blessing in disguise!]
Nina Thorne wasn’t as happy as one might expect. She replied calmly: [We’ll see.]
After what had happened at OmniCorp, the environment no longer felt as comfortable as it once had. She wouldn’t be happy if she stayed.
After thinking it over, Nina Thorne returned to the villa and sent a message to Ryan Reeves, proposing to end their collaboration.
Fearing that Justin Kane would hold him responsible, Ryan Reeves tried several times to get her to stay. But seeing that Nina Thorne was adamant, he had no choice but to respect her decision.
Nina Thorne felt a wave of relief wash over her as she put down her phone.
She turned her head and saw the bedroom door open.
Justin Kane walked in, dressed in a dark, custom-tailored suit. Tall and long-legged, with a refined and noble air, he approached Nina Thorne.
As he drew near, Nina Thorne caught the faint scent of cedarwood cologne on him. Paired with his sculpted features, he exuded a handsome, noble-yet-alluring masculine charm.
Nina Thorne’s heart suddenly began to race. Glancing at the time on her phone—just past three in the afternoon—she looked at him in surprise.
"Why are you back so early today?"
"I came back to celebrate with you." Justin Kane leaned in, his warm breath brushing against her face. "Since the people who bullied you have been taken care of, how about a drink?"
Nina Thorne wasn’t the least bit surprised that he knew everything.
She nodded quickly, a smile spreading across her lips. "Sure."
In the first-floor dining room, the two of them sat facing each other.
Justin Kane opened a bottle of red wine himself. After letting it breathe, he poured a glass and offered it to her.
"Thank you." Nina Thorne accepted it graciously.
"Congratulations on defeating the boss." Justin Kane raised his glass, a playful tone in his voice.
Nina Thorne laughed, said "thank you" again, and clinked her glass against his. She took a small sip of the red wine, her brow furrowing slightly at the taste she wasn’t accustomed to.
Justin Kane caught the small gesture, and a smile bloomed in the depths of his dark eyes.
She was wearing a simple, plain white dress that day, which complemented her pure, bright, and graceful bearing.
Her long, tea-brown curls were pulled back in a half-up style, with two strands framing her face, giving her a gentle yet sophisticated air.
"Nina Thorne, my parents are coming back in a week." Justin Kane set down his wine glass and looked up at her.
Nina Thorne’s eyes suddenly lit up. "Is it confirmed?"
Justin Kane affirmed, "It is. They’ll arrive in Sylport next Wednesday."
’That’s great.’
Nina Thorne had been waiting for them to return so she could formally propose breaking the engagement. She would do it openly and properly, and finally be rid of Cole Kane!
"Good. When they arrive, I’ll speak to your parents and make things clear about breaking off my engagement with Cole Kane." Nina Thorne’s gaze was resolute.
The engagement had been arranged by her father and the Kanes’ parents when he was still alive, so she felt she had to end it formally as well.
More importantly, she wanted everyone to know that she, Nina Thorne, didn’t need Cole Kane.
She didn’t want Cole Kane anymore!
