Chapter 87: Chapter 87: Preparation for Engagement Party

As her engagement party approaches, Edith must maintain her composure to ensure everyone supports her marriage to Cliff. Furthermore, if she spends too much time with Callum, she could be accused of cheating and become an online scandal. In reality, it’s more likely that Arabella stole Callum from her.

During the workday, Edith couldn’t communicate with Callum as freely. Her alternative was phone calls. When she was bored, she would text Callum simply to remind him to eat lunch. Callum would do the same. For them, this kind of normal communication was more than enough.

Edith continues to act as nanny, having promised Callum that she would not miss her duties as per her contract. However, recently, Cliff has been pestering her to attend dress fittings for her engagement party, preventing her from spending as much time with her twins as she would like.

Because Cliff couldn’t find a single dress he liked, Edith was forced to follow him to various boutiques almost every day during work hours. She really didn’t want to do this during work hours because it would disrupt her schedule of meetings with VIP clients. Edith wanted to reprimand Cliff, but she was afraid they would fight again like before.

Upon arriving at a boutique owned by one of Cliff’s friends, Edith was immediately presented with several dress options. Edith could already guess how Cliff would react when she tried them all on. She could only resignedly try them on one by one with a forced smile to keep him happy.

Edith stepped out of the boutique wearing a crimson ballgown. She actually really liked the dress, but seeing Cliff’s less-than-happy reaction made her even more disappointed.

"What about my appearance, Cliff?" Edith asked nervously.

"You actually look really beautiful in that dress. I didn’t make a mistake in choosing the dress for you," Cliff replied, staring at the tablet screen.

"Then, can I wear this dress to the engagement party?"

"But if you wear this dress, it actually doesn’t suit you very well."

Edith folded her arms. "Do I have to try on another dress?"

"It’s a shame, actually, because you’re so thin and this dress is so flowy. I feel like I’m marrying a clown."

Edith was actually furious at the sarcasm. However, she kept her emotions in check. "Okay, I’ll try another dress."

"I hope the last dress you tried on was to my taste too."

"What if I don’t like it? Are you still going to force me?" 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺

Cliff’s patience was nearly exhausted. Finally, he roughly placed his tablet on the sofa. He grinned at his fiancée, who still looked innocent in the eyes. He hadn’t expected her to be so fussy and difficult to control.

"So, do you want to wear that dress to the engagement party?"

"Of course. I really like this dress. You have no right to dictate to me, because if I wear a dress that doesn’t suit me, I’ll look terrible at the party."

Cliff took a deep breath, then exhaled slowly. "Okay, there’s some truth in what you said. If I forced you to wear a dress that matched my tastes, you definitely wouldn’t be smiling at the party."

"You finally gave in to my wishes. I thought you were going to scold me."

His right hand gently stroked his fiancée’s tiny head. "There’s no way I’d scold you because I can’t bear to see you depressed while we’re on a date."

Edith could only force a smile so Cliff wouldn’t scold her any further. "By the way, are you free today?"

"I’m not that busy. What’s up?"

"Actually, I wanted to tell you that I’m working overtime today because my schedule is quite busy tomorrow."

"But can’t you put your work on hold for now? If you keep working like this, you’ll get sick."

"It’s okay. I’m used to doing all this." Edith put her arms around Cliff’s back. "Aren’t you upset that I prioritize work?"

"Actually, I don’t mind. As long as you don’t get sick at the engagement party."

Edith was finally free from Cliff after hours of wasting her time. Now she could play with her twins at Callum’s house while waiting for him to return home. This time, Edith was thinking smarter than before. Since her relationship with Callum had improved, she now asked for the help of a secret guard to escort her secretly from a distance so that no spies would spy on her again.

As usual, Edith made cookies for her twins as a snack. As she was trying them, someone suddenly snatched them, startling her. Her eyes widened as she stared at the thief, her fiancé.

"Callum, aren’t you coming home a little late today?"

Callum kissed his fiancée briefly on the cheek. "I actually didn’t expect to end this so early. Now I can play with you and our twins as much as I want."

Edith laughed happily, feeding her fiancé a piece of chocolate chip cookie. "I had a dress fitting today for my engagement party. Cliff is such a jerk. He forbade me from wearing the dress I like."

"If you were to do a dress fitting with me, would you be angry too?"

"Are you going to be like the chatty Cliff?"

"Of course, because I hate seeing my beloved woman in an ugly dress. That’s why Cliff and I are here to accompany you to your fitting."

Edith’s lips curled into a pout. "I knew you were all the same when it came to this."

"But I’m different from him. I won’t insult you with harsh words. I’ll definitely give you good advice."

"Callum, hearing what you said earlier makes me even more impatient to have a wedding dress fitting with you."

For a moment, Callum moved his lips closer to his fiancée’s ear. "By the way, we can do it in secret."

"What do you mean?"

"When I accompany Arabella to try on wedding dresses, I want you to bring Cliff along too. I want to set a trap for them."
