Chapter 177: Scouting

Mo Chenxuan and Qin Wu left the base through the West gate.

However, their destination was in the south, so they looped around, passing near the south gate.

There were hundreds of cars and thousands of survivors at the south entrance.

Because of the hot weather, all the survivors wore light clothes and were fanning themselves outside their cars.

"It must be hell waiting in this weather." Qin Wu said and subconsciously shuddered.

She had always preferred cold to hot weather.

Even after experiencing the hellish apocalypse winter, she still preferred cold over hot weather.

"Most of them are on the verge of collapsing." Mo Chenxuan observed and frowned.

"It’s hot, and most can’t get water. Unfortunately, fainting will only hasten their death." Qin Wu said and sighed.

In most instances, surrounding survivors would rob their fainted companion instead of helping them.

However, they couldn’t be blamed for this.

After all, the apocalypse was a place where only the fittest survived. Maybe death was a humane outcome if one couldn’t endure the extreme weather.

Thinking this, Qin Wu stopped looking at the survivors and began looking at the surroundings.

"The teams are doing a good job of cleaning up the area near the base." She said, and Mo Chenxuan nodded, but they both knew that it was only a matter of time before the area became a battlefield.

Mo Chenxuan drove for ten minutes before they saw the first zombie.

The zombie was a level two ordinary zombie.

After seeing the car, the zombie grunted and ran towards it, wanting to eat the two.

Unfortunately, it picked the wrong targets and its head fell off before it could reach the car.

"Your space slash has become more powerful." Mo Chenxuan observed, and Qin Wu nodded with a satisfied smile.

"I feel like I could decapitate a level three zombie with one slash." She said.

"There will be plenty of opportunities in the near future." Mo Chenxuan said.

The two killed all the zombies they encountered along the way.

However, they didn’t go out of their way to search them out.

After all, they were rushing to scout the zombie horde and didn’t want to waste time on side tasks.

Two days passed in the blink of an eye.

On this day, Qin Wu was driving, and Mo Chenxuan was sitting in the passenger seat, using his spiritual ability to scout ahead.

"I see them." The man said, and Qin Wu subconsciously stepped on the brake.

Fortunately, both were level four ability users and could protect themselves from being violently jostled.

"How far away?" Qin Wu asked.

"They just entered my spiritual ability detection range." Mo Chenxuan said.

"Three kilometres..." Qin Wu muttered and narrowed her eyes before continuing.

"Should I drive further in?" She asked. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮

"Mmh." Mo Chenxuan nodded with a thoughtful expression.

"What’s wrong?"

"Let me confirm it first." Mo Chenxuan said, signalling Qin Wu to continue driving.

In this way, Qin Wu drove, and Mo Chenxuan scouted.

After driving for another two kilometres, Qin Wu stopped the car, and both got out.

"I was right." Mo Chenxuan said and quickly continued.

"There is a level four spiritual ability zombie in the horde." He said, and Qin Wu narrowed her eyes.

She still remembered the spiritual ability zombie they encountered in the refinery.

Because of that, she was resistant to spiritual ability zombies, especially those whose ability was higher than her husband’s.

"What stage?" She asked.

"Peak stage." Mo Chenxuan answered, causing Qin Wu to frown, but she suddenly thought of something and turned to her husband.

"That’s not right...." She started and continued.

"A level four spiritual ability zombie should be able to detect everything within three kilometres. Why did it let us approach so close to the horde?" She asked, and Mo Chenxuan sighed before speaking.

"I can’t be sure, but I think it has no combat ability." He said, and Qin Wu’s eyes widened in surprise.

"No combat ability?" She asked, and Mo Chenxuan nodded.

"There are many variations of the spiritual ability." The man started.

"This zombie doesn’t have attack ability, but it can control its fellow zombies. I am afraid it’s the main culprit behind the siege."

Qin Wu frowned when she heard this.

A moment later, she turned to Mo Chenxuan with a solemn expression.

"Our city B base is destined to suffer a siege in the near future, but the zombies will be less organised if we kill the level four spiritual ability zombie." She said, but Mo Chenxuan sighed and shook his head.

"It’s not that simple." He said, but before he could say more, the two heard a cacophony of grunts.

Soon after, they felt the ground shake and Mo Chenxuan frowned, took the car keys and pushed Qin Wu onto the passenger seat.

"Let’s get out of here first." He said.

After entering the car, Mo Chenxuan immediately started it and expertly turned it around.

Because many survivors had passed the same way, the road was clear, and the two soon left the zombie’s detection range.

However, Mo Chenxuan didn’t slow down until they were five kilometres from the horde’s outer perimeter.

"What’s going on?" Qin Wu asked.

"The zombie’s ability is a minor stage higher than mine. That means we can’t hide from it." Mo Chenxuan said, and Qin Wu understood.

"It can clearly see us, and although it can’t defeat us, it can send the controlled zombies to deal with us." She said, and Mo Chenxuan nodded.

"Wu’er, the horde currently has more than one hundred and fifty thousand zombies." The man said, and Qin Wu couldn’t help but be shocked.

"So many?" She asked, but Mo Chenxuan only sighed before continuing.

"Our base’s combined army has close to three hundred thousand people." He started.

"However, of the three hundred thousand, less than ten thousand are ability users. Most importantly, fewer than one thousand have serious combat ability."

"What you mean to say is that we may outnumber the zombie horde, but we lose in terms of quality?" Qin Wu asked, and Mo Chenxuan nodded before he began revealing everything he had seen.
