Chapter 220: Not a Fox

Visha sat with Uri and Xeno. They had already explained the situation. Now they were waiting for Failan to arrive. Visha looked around the tent. When she saw the fabrics, her eyes lit up.

They had already made needles and threads of different lengths and widths. All they needed was the right materials to use them on. She may not know much about fashion, but she could make designs that they don’t have on the Beast Continent.

She finally didn’t have to wear leather all the time. It doesn’t stretch well. And while it was great during the winter months. In summer, it was not the best. If they could get these materials, she could have the tribe make new clothes for themselves to wear.

No sooner had she decided what to do with the fabrics than she heard a commotion. The people started walking outside. The trio, unsure of why, also went out to take a look.

What they saw was a crowd of foxes heading their way. A man with an upright posture walked in front while the others followed behind.

"Did we cause a stir?" Visha couldn’t help asking in the link.

Those coming towards them were obviously of the same clan. The man in front appeared stern, as if ready for a fight. The trio couldn’t understand how helping someone turned into this.

"It’s not a stir, it’s a war," Xeno replied. Visha could feel the restless energy that was bubbling up inside him.

"Don’t get too excited. They might not want to fight you. I’m assuming the one in front is their tribe leader. He’s looking directly at me...like I’m manthrill shit."

"All the more reason to fight. Who told him to look at you like that?"

"Uri, calm your mate. If he causes trouble, I’ll kill him."

"Sha’min, he is your mate too." Visha could hear Uri’s resigned sigh. But she could also feel that he wasn’t against a fight.

"If either of you causes trouble, go sleep with the other beastmen for the rest of the festival."

The shock and horror she felt through the bond made her smile faintly. Because of the bond, they learned to keep a poker face in front of others. If they didn’t, everyone would be aware they were having a conversation among themselves.

So while the mob was coming down on them, the only flicker of emotion they saw from the three was Visha smiling.

Failan, who had brought the tribe leaders’ wrath on the trio, was embarrassed. He only wanted the tribe leader to listen to reason. He didn’t expect he would want to go on a rampage. This wasn’t what he had in mind at all.

Now it had happened, and there was nothing he could do about it. He could only ask them for forgiveness and hope they understood this was not his intention.

Still, they had to face what was to come.

When the tribe leader stopped not far away from the trio, his eyes flashed. He saw the two men flanking the woman. Based on the scent on her body, he knew they were a throuple. Looking at the woman in front of him who was obviously a fox a condoned such behavious he didn’t know whether to shout or hit her.

But Visha was not a member of his pack. He didn’t have an outburst immediately. But everyone there could see he was holding back his anger.

At this moment of pause, Failan came forward.

"I’m sorry. This was not my intention. I didn’t expect things to become this big. I only mentioned that there was a fox with two mates. Our tribe leader..."

He didn’t finish the sentence; he didn’t need to. What he meant was evident to everyone.

Visha nodded to Failan gently, a small smile on her face. "This isn’t your fault. They told me you want to help the others who have multiple mates. Is that true?"

Failan didn’t have time to open his mouth when the tribe leader pushed him away. He stumbled and was caught by a beastman and a female. Their contact was brief, but the trio could see the signs.

He was also a victim of his tribe leader’s rules. No wonder he was so active in wanting them to change the tribe leader’s mind.

"You are their tribe leader. Tell me, why is it you don’t wish your tribe member happiness?"

That simple sentence caused the tribe leader to go on a tirade.

"You disgusting bunch. Happiness? You want to besmirch the name of our great fox clan. What kind of multiple mates? We were made with one person in mind. Our ancestor has always told us one mate is the right way. Why should I allow their disgusting ideology to taint the fox clan?"

"But you are not a fox. Why do you care?"

Uri’s statement rippled through the crowd. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖

"Who isn’t a fox? I am the tribe leader of the fox clan. You dare say I am not a fox."

"You are not a fox."

Uri didn’t change his statement in the slightest. He looked over at Failan.

"Your tribe leader is not a fox. Why do you let him dictate fox traditions?"

Failan wasn’t sure what to say to this. He couldn’t understand why Uri would say their tribe leader wasn’t a fox. He is the son of the previous tribe leader. Yet, something inside him couldn’t stop him from asking the question.

"Is he really not a fox?"

Now it was Uri’s turn to be confused. As far as he was aware, this tribe leader was not a fox. The scent on him, though similar to a fox, was nothing like the other foxes around him.

Could it be that they hadn’t realized that their tribe leader isn’t a fox? Regardless of what was happening, he answered honestly.

"He is not a fox. He might be related to foxes, but he is definitely not a fox."

Everyone turned to the tribe leader. They had trust in him, but they needed to hear him say that what Uri said was wrong.
