Chapter 213: Meeting Talon

More and more people came to watch. Metalla still looked as though she was about to explode. No one came to fix the issue.

"Are we being looked down on?" someone asked in the pack-link.

That one sentence brought a sea of conversation. They were disgruntled. No matter whether they were a large tribe or not, many of them were stronger than everyone here.

Though some understood bloodline suppression, if the person with the ’superior’ bloodline were weaker, then they would ensure that said person was beaten. The tribe leaders hadn’t given the go-ahead to do anything, so they only waited.

"No need to be upset. Let’s wait and see what they do." Visha’s soothing voice calmed the tribe.

Watching the condor female sputter, while entertaining, was not what they needed right now. This was only the first day of the festival. They wanted to get to their residence, then find a stall to set up.

"If you’re finished making a fool of yourself, make a proper introduction. Otherwise, we’ll go find a place to live ourselves."

The tone was calm and detached. Those in the surroundings couldn’t help but wonder if this tribe was really planning to go on their own. Did they not think that doing this was disrespectful to the Skyward tribe?

Visha didn’t care about being disrespectful. If you’re a guide, you act like a guide. Metalla made it seem like they were begging to meet with her. Visha was a priestess, and Uri and Xeno were the tribe leaders. She should be the one humbling herself when she spoke to them.

Metalla’s face was still red. She hadn’t said a word, and they were getting impatient.

"Since you cannot help, move aside."

With a wave of his hand, Xeno pushed her aside and started walking in the direction she had left previously. The tribe followed. The onlookers were silent, watching the scene unfold.

They hadn’t gone far before someone appeared before them. It was obvious this person was of a high rank. Also from the condor tribe, he showed the same superiority. Visha raised an eyebrow, wondering if they would have to fight before getting a room.

This man scanned the tribe in front of him. They were mostly half-shifters. This was not his first time seeing such people. And yet, he felt a faint sense of intimidation from them. His eyes landed on the three walking in front of the tribe.

From them, the sense of intimidation wasn’t slight. His body was actively telling him to surrender. He had only ever encountered such a thing once. And that experience was not as frightening as this.

It is possible that the people in front of him are being perceived as a threat. But he didn’t see anything special about them. Nevertheless, he stood his ground.

"Talon of the Skyward. What seemed to be the problem?"

The trio took in the man in front of them. Like the other condor beastmen, he was lean and strong. The defining factor of wings blending into skin was hard to miss.

They scoffed, making small talk among themselves. Rather than come when the issue was small, they waited for them to leave before addressing the problem.

"There is no problem. We are making our way to our living area." Uri stated, about to step past Talon.

"We have guides who will show you to your areas. Why not use your guide?" Then he gestured for Metalla to come forward. When she faced them previously, she was obviously arrogant, but in front of this male, she was servile.

Curiosity rose in Visha’s eyes. What kind of person is Talon? Is he someone of importance? Visha’s eyes rested on Talon until she felt the possessiveness through their bond. She laughed inconspicuously.

"The guide was rude. We don’t need such a disrespectful guide."

Xeno did not hide his disdain for the female before him.

"The way she looks at you. You should be someone important. Why don’t you show us?"

There were gasps all around. Not from all the tribes. Those who gasped obviously knew who this person was. Those who weren’t sure of the man’s status could identify that he was important by the gasps.

Everyone waited with bated breath to see what this male would do. Most expected a conflict. He was with the condors. Who would dare to be disrespectful to the condors?

What none of them expected was that the male smiled softly, "Not a problem. I’ll be more than happy to help you."

"That’s very generous of you," Visha responded, gesturing for him to lead the way.

They acted this way, not because they didn’t take the people seriously, but because they wanted to understand what kind of people the ruling classes were. They were sure they didn’t bring people here to be rude to them.

There was an underlying motive. All they needed to do was figure otu whatt he motive was. Would they say at the tribe leader and priest meeting? Or is there another way for them to find out what they want to know?

Whatever the reason might be, it didn’t take long for them to arrive at their living area.

"This will be your home for the next two moon cycles. If you need anything, you can ask the attendants standing nearby." He pointed to people standing near each door.

"Thank you for your hospitality."

Xeno stepped forward, giving a respectful bow. The man’s eyes widened, obviously not expecting the courtesy. He came to his senses quickly and left them to settle in.

Inside the place was warm. They walked down a corridor. There, they saw a fire pit that was already burning. The smoke drifted up what Visha could only assume was a chimney.

There was a large room near the front. This room became the designated room for the trio. No one objected. Not far from the room was a myriad of rooms. Each is equipped with a bed and a table. It was nothing flashy, but it could still be used as a home away from home.

All their items were promptly brought in. When trading starts tomorrow, they will bring a few things out. For the rest of today, they needed to figure out how to get a stall and where the best spots might be.

Visha knows they might already be taken by others, but it mattered not. No matter where they went, their things should still be easy to sell. And if they weren’t, it didn’t matter; they would try again next time, if they did come to the festival again.

Not thinking about it much, the trio began to give orders. As for room assignments, they had the females on one side and the males on the other. Since they came to find partners, there was no reason for them to fraternize with each other.

Not that they discouraged. It would be best if they did. But Visha also knew that they were creatures of impulse. On the way, two of them had already done the deed. She didn’t need another headache.

It would be best if they stayed away from each other for the time being.

While Visha and the tribe were coordinating, Talon was reporting to his father, the village chief.

"Dad, I’m back. We had some trouble with a small tribe at the gate."

"Trouble? Someone dares to challenge our authority?" Varek was not angry. He was truly curious about which tribe would dare go against one of the ruling three.

"Tell me, what tribe was so careless?"

It was at this point that Talon realized he had never gotten the name of the tribe. He did not ask, and they did not supply. He pursed his lips, unable to answer his father.

Without waiting for an answer, his father understood. Varek looked at Talon and shook his head. "Go back to your room. Reflect on what you should have done better. When you’ve reflected, come back to me, and we will talk."

Talon was trained to be the next head of the Skyward tribe, but at this rate, Varek wondered if that was feasible. Getting information about a tribe, even something as simple as a name, is what leaders need to do.

Since he was willing to intervene, he should have gathered information along the way. Instead, he ended up not knowing anything about his opponent.

Had it truly been an enemy, he would be at a disadvantage. Varek didn’t take many tribes seriously. And since his son had no clue about the tribe, he assumed it was a small tribe of little importance.

Since they were a small tribe, they did not pose a threat. The real question was whether they were trying to get attention by acting this way or if it was the nature of the tribe itself.

Whatever the reason for his lapse in judgment, it would be best for Talon to reflect now so the situation does not happen again.
